Gonville Cambridge review of hotelLocation very convenient, pleasant walk from main centre, shops etc. Room was good size and comfortable. Didn't need car park but it would have been a real benefit if I had driven. Very satisfied. Did not take breakfast as work provided elsewhere.

All staff very helpful. Lovely garden for a quiet lunch

Lumpy uncomfortable beds which they really need to update, showers with low water pressure, service not great but not awful, food is typical British quality (in other words: not great). Location next to Regent st which has lots of restaurants to go to, so that was a plus. Also walking distance to national rail station so you can jump on the train to London. Distance still a bit too far to drag a big suitcase there though. We have stayed there twice: December 2006 and July 2007. This last time we stayed at the Garden Hotel which was only slightly more expensive, but definitely worth the switch. Their beds were not that great either though! I think British Hotels don't have high standards for comfortable beds compared to the U.S.

overpriced, overheated and exceptionally averagearrived with outstanding uk temperatures, a/c could not cope, vey poor in fact. breakfast at £12:50 is excessive if only toast and coffee wanted, small roomm, but adequate, only good for short stays, any longer you would want better

Overall an enjoyable experiance and stay

Good location, terrible showerThe hotel was well placed and the rooms were reasonably roomy. However, the water pressure in the showers was so poor that taps could not sustain the shower settings. I have stayed in £30 a night B&Bs with better showers. But for this failure, the hotel would have been ok. However, one does expect to be able to shower in the mornings when one is paying over £130 per night

Nice hotel located in walking distance to the city center. However, compared to the price there is much to noice inside. Some kind of compressor makes a lot of noice and you can hear everybody passing your room.

Weekend VisitHotel was expensive (about 30% overpriced), the bathroom was small and the (plastic add-on)shower very weak. The water ran out twice in the shower.Staff generally pleasant and helpful.

carpet was extremely dirty but location was excellent for sight seeing. When I registered the accomodations were priced correctly, but when I checked out they were higher. I had to show proof of the didn't throw away my copy you sent me. Aey saidlso, was unable to ghet the TV to work. I did tell them and they said they would check it but not sure if they did sinceit never worked

Good. Could be betterRoom good and clean as always. Staff polite & helpful, as always. Breakfast scheduled for 7:15 but no one in evidence at that time and nothing laid out ready, so I checked out and got breakfast elsewhere. Breakfast not starting until 7:15 is late for someone with morning meetings scheduled anyway, and on this occasion, with no staff around and no tables laid, it was obvious that it wasn't going to be ready until 7:30 at the earliest. Still, I will be back, the Gonville is consistently one of the best hotels that Cambridge has to offer.

A single bed? Heating seemed to be stuck on permanently?

Couldn't believe it was such a good price for quality of room right in central cambridge. Didn't stay for breakfast so can't comment.

Great central location, good clean & comfortable accommodation with decent parking included. Some room fixtures now becoming a little dated, eg shower curtain around bath rather than a screen. Good value in the context of Cambridge, but note breakfast is + £12.00.

Evening restaurant service was very slow on the second night

Had read quite negative reviews about this place but was happy with hotel. Had large room with huge bed. Bathroom was clean and shower was good. Staff were all very good - night porter at reception gave me a jug of iced water in the middle of the night when I was expecting to pay for a plastic bottle - extremely kind of him. Staff remembered who I was, which I liked. Was perfect for our stay.

Expensive, but about par for Cambridge. Parking can be a problem, but it is well situated. I use it as a backup, rather than for preference. The room I had this time was larger than my last stay, but the bathroom was still on the small side.

Reception could not find the booking, so after waiting 20 mins a new room was allocated to us. The rate was the same as Late rooms , so NO real saving at all! As the staff were foreign language was a problem.Otherwise fine, nice room, great location with parking!Next time would phone to book!

Very dissapointed with the breakfast which was practically inedible. Service was also generally slack with the need for me having to repeatedly ask for an iron. Overall considering the cost of £104 plus £11 for a very poor breakfast the Gonville certainly did not offer value for money.

Chose this hotel for it's location and car parking facilities. Great location however, not enough room for cars - was unable to find space in the car parking area.
