Review from a regular travellerHotel good if a little tired (decoration wise) but had plenty of character as it is an old building and thats what I prefer. Reception staff were excellent and very helpful. I will take a rain check on the bar staff as I tried to order bar service (food) and I was told they had a large party in the resteraunt and that there might be a delay on my food. As I am also a customer I expected what the others were getting. i explained this and yes my food came - Fish, chips & mushy peas - the fish was not fresh, the chips were soggy and seemed that they had been in the oven keeping warm and the peas were certainly not mushy, they were like bullets. Breakfast was excellent with excellent service.

Feed backHotel old but good. Could do with modernising here and there. Restaurant food too o.t.t. and basic food would be better. Will stay there again.

A great hotel full of character. We really enjoyed our stay at the Duke of Cornwall. It's a beautiful, old hotel full of character. The grandeur may be a little faded these days but I think that adds to the charm. The room was very spacious with sea views and even had a separate sitting area. Both room service and breakfast were delicious and plentiful with excellent service....I'd definitely stay again!

Best breakfast in PlymouthHad a really good breakfast - best kippers ever.Hotel is a bit shabby and could do with redecorating but still charming... great atmosphere and lovely staff. Fantastic location - near town and sea front

The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. We were very impressed with the whole weekend and particularly enjoyed our stay at the Duke of Cornwall. We only did bed and breakfast but the breakfast was first class.

Dining Room optionsCouldn't fault the Hotel, very comfortable. The management need to seriously rethink the options offered in the dining room for Dinner. There was only an a la carte menu available, quite expensive, and this menu didn't change for the 3 nights we were there. As a result the 2 evenings we used the dining room , there were only 2 other couples in.If the Hotel wishes to compete with the many other restaurants in the area, how about offering a table d'hote at a reasonable price, and one that changes eevery day, but still offer the a la carte option for those who wish for something a bit special. Having said this, the food we had was very good!

OutdatedPretty poor, outdated hotel. Room very cold and pretty basic, bed uncomfortable, and food very, very average (had breakfast only). Wasn't even asked if everything had been OK when I checked out. Tried to charge me for broadband I never used (due to its cost - serious hotels should have wifi for free nowadays). Not up to modern standards by a long way.

Nice place - shame about the parkingThis is a hotel that harks back to another age, this is most evident in the size of the car park! The hotel car park is very small, (parking for less than 50 cars). When I arrived there were no spaces available and I was forced to park on a nearby street. I arrived on Monday evening, Salsa Dancing night. The car park was occupied by people attending this event. During the time that I was there a number of events took place. Whilst I recognise that the hotel needs to generate revenue by hosting as many such events as possible I believe that paying guests should be given priority when spaces are as limited as they are here.As I was carrying work related items in the boot of my car I did not relish leaving the vehicle on the street overnight. I asked at reception if they could notify me when a space was available, the car park having CCTV. Good to their word they did so and even took the trouble to place a cone in front of the available space. The staff in general at this hotel were very good. The decor is in keeping with the age of the building but the overall effect is good. The lift takes 4 people only so be prepared to wait at busy periods. I had a room on the 5th floor. The sash windows were draughty and the room a shade on the cool side despite turning the radiator up. The room was reasonably equpped and of a good size. The bathroom in contrast was warm. Beds have blankets which personally I do not like. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel and it is adjacent to the Pavillions venue. Apparently, the Pavillions site was originally a railway station which explains the presence and orientation of the hotel.I ate in the bar and the food was reasonably priced, of good quality and the service excellent. Bar prices too are reasonable. Breakfast is cooked to order with a good choice available.

Good central location. Traditional style hotel with well appointed bedroom, formal dining room and large lounge bar. We had dinner in the dining room, there was a good choice of starters & main course and the quality was good . We also had breakfast in the dining room but the quality of food was not so good. The staff were friendly and overall the hotel offered good value for money.
