This is a very reasonable, centrally located hotel-- somewhat of an unassuming oasis in a rough part of SF, so you can't be skiddish about walking down sidewalks along with a raucous of street people. The hotel room was decorated with a cool, interesting mix of retro furniture and accents that didn't feel like a standard hotel room, not even a perfectly done (but sterile) boutique hotel-- it was cozy. The rooms are 'themed' after famous people in history: We were in the Cheech Marin room-- so appropriate for a stay in SF (wink)! The room was very clean and well equipped, with the modern essentials like an ipod dock, flat screen TV, wifi (FREE!), bathroom fixtures. Our room had high ceilings and huge Victorian windows. O yea, and parking was extremely reasonable, considering the costs I've paid at other SF hotels. The office/lobby staffers give the level of service and hospitality that you'd find at a 3 star hotel desk-- very kind, attentive and helpful; there's also a guest computer (mac) in the office. The security appears on point. There's no extra amenities in the building-- you have to cross the street to the sister hotel for access to pool, fitness room, resto and bar/lounge. We needed a clean, comfy, convenient place to wind down and sleep, and this place was perfect.

The room is nice. It was big and the bed was very confortable. There is internet for free and that was a plus. I had to pay $20 a day for parking. There is no room service. I asked for a water in the middle of the night and the recepcion suggested me go out and walk a few blocks to get in a liquor store. That was unbelivable for a hotel. But in avarage, it was OK. If you intend just to sleep there, it´s ok. It´s not a hotel to enjoy it.. it´s just to sleep.

The rooms are super nice, but there wasnt really internet via the wired or wireless systems. Also, we had to ask for coupons to the breakfast that is listed as free. It is across the street at a nice place with friendly staff.

The Hotel is under going major exterior and interior changes, You just don't expect to see scaffolding around the hotel and still be open. The staff were all very nice and helpful in finding locations we wanted to see. One of the only down falls that I felt was misleading is the distance to places listed , We like to walk and to get to the places listed with in walking distance you'd have to go back alley's to get there, not safe. You can take a cab or the various cable cars or buses with a pass (a cost to you). The rooms were very cleans and the king size bed was comfortable. There isn't a restaurant on site but across the street in another hotel is a place called custom bugers, Wonderful food and the breakfast offered free by our hotel at that place was very good. Over all a clean, nice people place to stay for a night or two.

a nice place for the money. staff is friendly, but they did not fix our bath or offer us another room. parking is a total rip-off since i am paying to stay in the hotel.ever heard of free parking for hotel guests?! the hotel is very close to the court house/good the hotel is surrounded by homeless shelters/bad we have stayed accross the street at the sister hotel, this one is better.

Posted outside elevator was a sign from fire dept that hotel was found to have conditions hazardous to your health. Every morning garbage truck was across street at 5 am . Every night the homeless were out and fighting . the only time i called for assistance from desk i was ignored. At one point they shut down elevator for a full day and we had to trek up 4 flights of stairs . Besides the room rental they charge 17.00 a day to park in garage . There was no continental breakfast and no lobby or check in was at hotel next door. The description was no match for what we found . I understand renovations but we did not recognize the hotel when we got there also hotel is on a one way street and hard to get to .

I had to say that I didn't have the most pleasant stay there. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the room was phenominal. When I first arrived, the front desk clerk was helping someone and when she was done she asked me, "Do you need anything?" and I stated that I was checking in. She told me and I quote, "I am sorry, I thought you were part of our kitchen staff." I obviously did not feel very welcomed after that. The Room it self was great. I had a king sized bed, with a couch and a desk. Very clean, plasma TV, Ipod alarm clock, and rooms seemed to be pretty sound proof, since I didn't hear anything from the other rooms. However, the area isn't the greatest. There was a police sting across the street at about 3am in the morning, which woke me up from a sound sleep. I was also told by locals that there are homeless shelters about 2 blocks away, which explained the amount of homeless people there. Don't walk around by your self, late at night (take a taxi).

The hotel was exceptionally clean and well kept. The hotel staff knew the area and made suggestions for restaurants and for getting around town on public transportation. The continental breakfast and paper each morning got the day off to a pleasant start. Will certainly stay there again.

The Carriage Inn in San Francisco was a clean/retro type hotel....the front desk was most accommodating with arranging transportation for us to the airport....and supplying us with a breakfast voucher....however.....the area around the hotel was not safe to walk around in the evening...

The hotel was very nice, especially for the price. The location however was not very good. There are a lot of aggressive homeless, XXX stores, etc. The hotel provides a shuttle to Union square but wished it were more frequent, and could take you to BART station. The free continental breakfast was nice but needs a better variety or selection. Overall it was a nice hotel but next time I think I will opt for a better location.

Great hotel, close to market street and city hall. The place was always clean and the the small staff was very nice and informative. I would recommend the place to my friends.
