Date of Stay: July, 2009

Hotel was beautiful, well appointed, and clean. Staff was courteous and helpful. Room overlooked indoor pool and had shared balcony with room next door (which would have been awkward if sharing with a stranger). Only shortcoming was that the restaurant was closed. I was there on a Sunday night and would have like to try it, but there are several other places to eat within walking distance. Short drive to U of Iowa campus and close to I-80. Would definitely recommend this hotel to singles and families!

Old English style. There arelittle things that could be improved. Everything was good, the customer service was the best, but I stink they can improve with small details like making sure all the lights work in their room. The chain wasn't strong enough on the door and maybe a little air freshener for the smoking rooms, but over all we love the place.

I liked the mid evil theme at the hotels including gargoyles. The bathroom was too small not even enough space for a sink in it. Had an interesting mid evil theme going on with gargoyles in parking lot. Room was small but suited our needs. Only bad thing small bathroom could not hold a sink or a mirror had to walk around corner to wash hands.

Good value and I liked that there was a full service restaurant connected to the hotel. It was cold & snowy out so I did not have to put a coat on. They are in the process of renovating which can only be good for us travelers.

The Best Western Cantebury Inn & Suites was a terrible experience for my family. The room was very dirty and the light/fan over the shower was broken and throwing sparks so we asked to be moved. We were moved to another room that was even more dirty. When I say dirty I mean dust, stains, and general damage. In fact the sheets were not changed from the previous guests. The sheets had sand and body hair all over them. I had to go get sheets and change them myself. The refrigerator was broken so I had to fill bags of ice to save my food. By the time I was finished it was 12:30am. The doors for the bathroom would not even close. They jammed open. This place is in need of serious help. Not what I would expect from a hotel. The continental breakfast food was bland. So the free breakfast cost me and my family a breakfast at the local diner. Because of this experience I will not book a reservation at a Best Western anywhere.

I liked the free breakfast and coffee in the room. Overall, the hotel was dirty and smelled bad. This hotel is rather dirty and smelled bad. The location is convenient, right off I80.

Even though we were on the first floor, facing the parking lot, and the hotel was fully booked the room was very quiet at night. I wished rooms on the first floor, which don't face the pool, had a solid wall to the parking lot instead of a sliding glass door. Great hotel. This was our second time staying here and appreciated all aspects of our stay. It was a comfortable experience and a great location, making it easy to get around Coralville and Iowa City. Even though it is on a busy street we did not hear the traffic at night.

Nothing at all, not a thing did I like. The room stank, the staff was surly and not helpful. I would not recommend this hotel. The staff was not helpful, the room reeked of odor, the beds had bugs in them. I have no idea why anyone would stay in this building.

The loft bedroom. After 11 there were kids still yelling in the pool. The hotel was nice. There was no one in the pool and hot tubs in the afternoon, so it was peaceful swimming with no kids yelling and jumping everywhere. They had a good variety of things to eat for the complementary breakfast.

Convenience. The hallways were dark and in need of repair the carpeting in the hallway was past its prime. There was an indoor pool that kids used but we did not observe any adults in. The trip to the free breakfast bar took 10-12 minutes and it was not obvious on how to get there. It was close to the hospital where I did an overnight for testing. We had a dog and they were fine with (although it did cost an extra $10 which we were aware of ahead of time). At one time it might have been a nice place but the dankness of the hallways and rather plain, the room was only suitable for people on a budget and willing to for go the typical modern day hotel.

The staff was very helpful when I wanted to change rooms. Decor was very outdated. The hotel was a very good value for the price I paid. The decor was very outdated but the rooms were very clean. The area of town was very safe and comfortable as well.

The pool, hot tubs, and pool table are convenient to the rooms facing the courtyard, great for family get together. If you get a poolside room, be prepared for lots of noise very early and very late. The Canterbury Inn is a very reasonable alternative in the Coralville area, and its unique, castle inspired architecture and decor is charming, albeit a bit dated. The courtyard area includes a pool, two more secluded hot tubs, and a pool table, and the recreation area is easily accessible from the poolside rooms. The setup is perfect for a fun, multi family gathering, but not so great for peace and quiet. If rest is your goal, don't book poolside. But if you have kids, they'll be thrilled with the pool view (incidentally, patrons in the bar also have a pool view, through an underwater viewing window). As for the rooms, they're generally clean and have seen some updates in recent years. A complementary breakfast is served poolside, and includes everything from cereal and fruit to waffles fresh from the griddle. All in all, a pretty neat experience with a bit of character for an excellent price.
