Lovely site and we appreciated being able to take a stroll after breakfast. Nice quirky hotel but the 2nd floor is not for the aged. Our room was big and airy with all the necessary appurtenannces but is in need of refurbishment.

The attention paid by the staff was exemplary and made the hotel compare favourably with some other large group hotels. A lift would be good though!

interesting old building, very helpful staff, excellent catering, quiet and comfortable stay.Breakfast provided a wide range of choice, and is not for those on a diet ! The staff were all helpful and very pleasant, the site had an interesting historical background- and the age of the lodge meant a few steep stairs and the occasional creaky floorboard.Room facilities were very good and comfort was also very good. The choice and standard of dishes for dinner was superb . Agood base to explore the area from.

Single Traveller with dogAlthough the hotel was very busy with a wedding and large dining party the service was excellent, particularly in the dining room where myself and two friends were attended by the duty manager. The room was on the second floor and had obviously been refurbished fairly recently and the bathroom was sparkling. The only downside was it was a long way from the entrance/exit, particularly when you have quite a large dog in tow.Had previously been put off using this hotel having read some poor reviews, but I gather it has changed hands and is now extremely efficiently run.Having a large garden and wood, meant it was ideal for Daisy and a great plus was being able to take her into the public rooms.

BestwoodThe day I stayed I arrived quite late anddon't think they were very busy and the checking in process was very efficient. The room was a bit of a trek up a couple of flights and I wasn't directed to a lift so assume one doesn't exist and as I had to make a couple of returns to my car this was a litle unwelcome. The room was adequate and clean with a new shower room, however I was unable to get any hot water into the shower or sink the following morning, which might deter me from returning although I will probably give it one more go.I don't eat a full breakfast but it all looked Ok and the service was good albeit I was the only one in at 7:15

Very Pleasant stayFrom the very courteous welcome to friendly service in the bar, restaurant and breakfast to efficient checkout, the whole stay was very pleasant indeed. A bit tricky to find without Satnav and not much parking (due to Round table meeting I guess), these were instantly forgotten due to the lovely welcome, friendly staff and very good food (although the restaurant lacked atmosphere)Room was execellent as was the breakfast so great value for money - would definitley stay again.

Great Customer ServiceThis was lovely! The Reception staff were so friendly, even sorting out alternative car parking as the car park was full. The hotel has character and the food was good; all in all a good place to stay

Quirky but a good place to stayThe wooded surroundings lend a peaceful atmosphere to the hotel, which is a rather tired Victorian gothic building. I was impressed by the cheerful and helpful staff, slept well in a clean and comfortable room and enjoyed an excellent breakfast.

Unclean unclean - ring out your deadI stayed in this hotel at short notice and paid 50 pounds per night. The room was adequate - but the beds were obviously not changed each night - with human hair and stains on the sheets. The shower did not work blowing hot and cold and I when I complained they changed my room. This was to a room with a better shower (not electric) but that still went hot and cold. The bedspreads on the new rooms beds were dirty - which I pointed out to an embarassed receptionist, whom I also asked to take away the half eaten biscuits and get the TV to work - more human hairs in the beds - she apologised ans said she would speak to the manager. On the morning of my departure there was no mention by anyone of my problems - when I inquired - it turned out that notes had been left about my experiences - the recptionist started to tell me about internal problems with 'housekeeping' - I politely told her I didn't give a stuff about that and that I would vote with my feet - suggest you do it prior to booking.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting and is quite spectacular from the outside. The room was on the second floor and there is no lift. The second set of stairs was very steep, narrow and twisting, so I had trouble getting my luggage up there, however, before I knew it was this bad I was offered help. The room was workable for laptop etc. and the bed comfortable, even though it had a lump chopped out the back to accommodate the quaint boxed-in pipes all around the also quaint-shaped room. The shower was good, but did not drain away quickly enough, so there was water in the bottom. I told reception, but it was the same the next morning.
