Very nice stay. It would be honest to advertise the neighborhood as Tenderloin, not Union Square. You should stay alert walking several streets, where there are many agressive homeless. Especially evening, and avoid at night, especially Jones St towards Market and 7th Av. Post St itself is fine, and many asian restaurants in the neighboorhood are also fine. Just be careful walking around.

A pleasant quiet hotel, conveniently central - less than 10 minutes walk from Union Square. I suggested that they display the local paper, Guardian, in the hotel, because it is like a "What's On", and if I had seen it, I would not have missed an "open rehearsal" with the San Fransico Symphony at the famous Symphony Hall. All the staff were very pleasant and I enjoyed my brief stay there.

This is a very old hotel. There is no air conditioning so we had to sleep with the windows open. Noise from the nearby firestation, and general city noise kept us awake,. not to mention the flies. Unusually warm temps (in the 70's and 80's) made the room sweltering. Bath water fluctuated from scalding to ice every few minutes. Slow drains. Hotel borders Union Square, but block away from real seedy section. NO INTERNET SERVICE IN ROOMS - no wi fi, no wired, nothing. Only internet service is in Lobby. Had to bring laptop downstairs. There were two computers provided by hotel, but always in use. We were on the 8th floor. Only ice machine in basement. Condition of room, shabby. Unles you like "old world charm" or "european" style, choose something more modern. Not worth the money.

For the price, it was great. Simple and clean. Helpful staff.

This is a wonderful hotel to stay at, the staff are friendly and very helpful with directions and booking tours etc. The rooms are large and tastefully furnished, plenty of hot water after a long day of enjoying the sights. Continential breakfast is included. The location is good, with public transport just outside the front door and only a 5 min walk to Union Square. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff was extremely helpful in answering our questions and helping us to get to our inrtended destination of activities for the days we were there. The beds were queen size and were good, Maid service was prompt and very good. The only slight problem we had was on the first night we had and inside room figuring that street noise woulf be too loud. The building next to us was a usahostel and had many young prople staying there. The next night was all quiet though and for the whole stay very nice.

The kids were enamored with the Murphy bed and we were all delighted with the 3 bay windows with padded window seats in our very spacious suite. One of the only hotels we found that could comfortably sleep 5-6 people in actual beds - no cots, sleeper couches, etc. Bus stops right outside to take you to Montgomery Station and from there you can go almost anywhere. Lovely breakfast.

A good value, pleasant hotel walkable to downtown SF. We stayed for a week in June at $90/night for a queen room. My only complaint was slight noisiness: The rooms have old-fashioned radiators for heating, and someone downstairs from us must have turned theirs on a few times in the middle of the night (it was chilly outside, though we were fine in our room). The clanking noise was annoying. The windows are a bit thin, so you might hear traffic and sirens at times. We couldn't hear any noise from other rooms, other than the radiator. Best points: Free breakfast every morning, including good coffee, fresh donuts, muffins, croissants and sometimes cubed watermelon and cantaloupe. Free wine and cheese hour every afternoon. Helpful clerks at the front desk, who arranged a car to the airport for us and advised us on which cable car line to take. We had a comfortable, clean room with a nice hot shower and a small bathtub. The room included a mini fridge, TV with VCR, a dresser, 2 armchairs, 2 side tables and a fan. The rest of the hotel has charming red carpets, a glass chandelier and grandather clock in the lobby and winding staircases (when you don't feel like using the elevator) with Art Deco prints of Golden Gate National Park attractions. You can find good Thai food across the street at Thai Stick, or tasty Indian food nearby at Pakwan.

An old fashiond hotel in a central area with good connections to local transport and good service including continetal breakfast and early evening cheese and wine, free internet access available which is popular so sometimes a queue forms. On the whole very good rating

This once elegant hotel is starting to show its age but is still great fun for those who are on a budget but want to be in the prime tourist area. The rooms are large and clean with kitchenettes available. The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is well appropriated. There is wireless internet in the lobby but not in the rooms. No hairdryer or A/C (which is rarely needed). We loved the real room key and figuring out what to do with a bidet.

The price was right at $99/night, and they were kind enough to upgrade us to a junior suite in the back (we wanted a quiet room). The hotel is in a central location, although there are some walking routes to Market St that take you through some bad areas. Best to head towards Union Square and down to Market. The rooms haven't seen a renovation for some time, but everything was clean and neat. Even though we were in the back, there was still a bit of noise from nearby clubs and the airshaft. But overall, a nice stay for the price.

This was a terrific botique hotel in a great location. Staff were so friendly & helpful. The complementary "happy hour" wine & snacks in the lobby each afternoon created such a great friendly atmosphere with guests mingling. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

A pleasant boutique type hotel with good location. Rooms clean but furniture could use updating...

Good hotel in the center of San Francisco, very clean, and beds comfortable. Breakfast consisted mosly of donuts, muffins and fruits, for me it is OK. Also take into account that wine & cheese are served during very short period of time around 4-5 PM, so you'll likely miss it if planning any activities in the city and surrounding area.

the room & furnishings were pretty nice and comfortable, and the jacuzzi was the best. I loved it. There was an actual bidette in the junior sweet. There was a lot of noise outside and either above us or down the halls. There was a child running up and down the halls at midnight, over and over. I was unable to sleep most of the night but my guests slept fine. It would be nice to have air conditioning for both cooling and white noise. There were people partying hard outside and you could see there shadows on the opposite walls, They were screaming too.

Attractive room with good quality, antique-style furniture. Room larger than most but bathroom smaller than most. Tub is . . . teeny tiny. Wireless in room. Evening wine and cheese included in price, and continental breakfast. Fabulous location! Would prefer stronger lights in room because I was there on business. Very best thing was exceedingly helpful staff. I had a problem the case on an electronic device and the hotel devoted three staff members to trying to resolve it. The 24-hour on-site handyman fixed my problem. Would absolutely stay here again.

The rooms and the bathrooms are large. They appear to be remodeling some rooms, the room we stayed in was not remodeled and there were stains on the carpet. The bathroom was very clean; I liked that the bathroom had double sinks. There was a mirror on the dresser and on the sliding doors of the closet. The location is great, only 4 blocks from Union Square. Great places to eat and shop in walking distance.

Reception personnel were very helpful with all travel advice. We appreciated the two online internet computers in the lounge area. Their daily Happy Hour encouraged traveller to mingle. Overall an excellent Hotel .
