Lovely hotel in the heart of downtown Portland. The room was a bit dated but that is the point of staying in a historic hotel. The bed was of the highest quality. Well worth the price.

Old-charm - clean - super location quite - no interruptions. The bathroom was too small for a family. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the fact that we had great eateries within the hotel. We ordered room service - it was quick and very good. The location is perfect! Remember to book tours ahead of time.

Discounted rooms mean that you get an inferior room. Woke to what we thought was an earthquake, until it happened again about an hour later. Found out the hotel had located us next to a freight elevator which literally made the whole room shake. When we brought it up upon checkout, we were told that it must have been a dryer that was unbalanced. To add insult to injury, checked our credit card balance and found an additional charge after we arrived home. A call to the hotel disclosed that we were charged for using the mini-bar which we did not. That issue remains unresolved. A beautiful lobby, but wouldn't recommend staying here.

I loved The Benson. So many hotels look exactly the same these days - it was so nice to stay in a hotel with some charm and history. The staff was outstanding (especially our waiter at breakfast) and I was made to feel very welcome. My room was spacious and updated. The hotel is centrally located downtown and within walking distance of the Pearl District. I highly recommend this hotel!

We had a lovely time staying at the Benson. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The lobby is fabulous. Location was superb...everything was simply great...great stay!

I had a fantastic stay at The Benson. The staff was very helpful, for a variety of questions (directions to avoid traffic, restaruant advise, etc). The room was beautiful and I could not sleep better at home! The location is ideal, in the middle of everything downtown. Only a short walking distance to so many shops and restaurants.

We came to visit our son who lives in Portland. We've been to Portland many times, all different hotels. We wouldn't stay here again. The rooms were small. The bathrooms were old and tiny with no place to lay out all our "stuff".

Lobby, bar were beautiful. Room was small and not updated. I liked the hotel itself. Very convenient to everything we wanted to do. Rooms are small and not updated.

Poor customer service i have ever experienced. The satff was extremely rude. During our 1 day stay here, we got 2 star experience, on 4 star price. The only thing that was nice about the hotel, was its lobby. Everything else just ends here. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Close to all sorts of sites including Bijou Cafe, Pioneer Square, Powell's Books, riverside restaurants, OR Historical Society, Nordstroms. Public transportation options excellent; good shuttle service from airport; I'd come back again and again. Concierge staff very helpful w/ suggestions of restaurants and making reservations; lobby comfortable and well-appointed.

Convenient location, fast check-in & out, friendly staff, comfortable bed & clean room/bathroom. Comparable to better hotels we've stayed in downtown Portland & in other metropolitan cities. Rooms smaller than many newer luxury hotels but more than adequate & enough drawer space.

Clean. The rooms are not business user friendly, no electric outlets to plug into. I have stayed here numerous times, good hotel but I always cringe when it comes up as the accepted price on Price line, guess there is a reason why, given the other nicer hotels in the area. Big problem is the lack of work space in the rooms for the business traveler and no plug ins.

Beautiful Hotel, very romantic with old world charm, not to mention the wonderful food and location. The beds were really comfortable and the room service was fantastic and speedy. I highly recommend.

Very nice hotel in a great part of town. Easy to walk everywhere, catch the MAX, etc. Accommodations very comfortable even with four to a room. Tempur-Pedic beds get big ups. Employees were friendly and helpful. Only complaint is the lack of free Wi-Fi. Even using the computer in the business center cost $4.50/15 mins.

Location, reputation. Had not been updated in a long time. Great for the money paid. However, we had to pay $10 extra for a king size bed and the parking was almost $30. Yet the hotel has a reputation, a lot of history and it was fun to stay there.

The Benson is one of the oldest hotels in Portland, and very close to the Pearl District where we had an event to attend. When I made the reservation I told the attendant that we were bringing our dog (allowed), and we had a long conversation about hers, mine, etc. I was quoted a rate, $184, for the four of us plus our dog (or so I thought), asked about parking and was told that parking was normally $28, but not if you were staying in the hotel. Sooooo - we arrive a few minutes early (check in is at 4:00, which I think is a little late), our room isn't ready, we check our bags and head out for a stroll, return a full hour later and our room is still not ready, it's 4:45, oh - and "nowhere does it say that you were bringing a dog", and dogs are only allowed on one floor, so your wait will be even longer". I lost it - the kids were exhausted and hungry. My husband said "let's just bag it and drive home to Seattle". A manager was called, they got us a room and knocked the dog fee down , which is still quite high, AND informed us that parking was not complimentary. They already had our car. We were stuck, and they did not have their act together at all. The beds were like bricks (Tempurpedic) and we both woke up with bad backs. We spent more than planned, and found the surrounding neighborhood to have deteriorated tremendously from our last visit. Our advice is stay away from the Benson if you plan to do the city by foot, just too dicey, expensive and unreliable.
