Not what expectedCountry setting is overlooking a very main road though double glazing eases this. Bed yes, breakfast...very limited. A poor full English was the only choice but no bacon. Works better as a chalet for a group of friends taking over the whole house instead of a 'house share' with strangers. Host is a very nice guy but provides no dedicated service.

Fawlty TowersElegant building sadly let down by poor service. Asked for breakfast at 8.00 both mornings served at 9.00, no cereals or fruit juice presented, sorry no bacon. Table not cleaned from the day before, if it had been cheaper to stay there, would not feel the need to complain.

A room with a viewWe were amazed at the views from the end of our room, they were matched by the location of the accommodation. The whole house was ours to use and we felt quite at home. We would consider using this place again.

Beautiful settingAt first the idea of being alone in someone elses house was strange although after a short time I warmed to the idea, mainly due to the fact that the house is gorgeous.Extremly clean with all mod cons and very worth the money. It is more like renting than staying in hotel but refreshingly relaxed.Would recommend staying here to anyone. One thing that would improve it however would be a television in your bedroom so if more than 1 guest was staying then you could have your own privacy.Overall an enjoyable experience.

it was like really good, the owner just let you get on with it as he had another b'n'b in the town so we used it as if it was are own house. was really good views. but a bit hard to find, no signs on the gate or wall to direct you up the lane.

My stay at BeirnfelsVery helpful and friendly on arrival. The house was very nicely laid out with open access to kitchen and lounge area, The only down side was that the accomodation was not that easy to find ,so had to ring for directions and the breakfast was unfortunately not that hot. Would stay there again dispite the negative comments.

A warm welcome to your second home! A MUST if staying in Plymouth, excellence with homely comfort. Within seconds of walking in through the front door you know you have made the right decision in booking Bierfels. You are invited to freely use the facilities, if it's a quite read of a newspaper or book with a bottle of wine, beer or simply a warm cup of freely available tea and coffee, then you can sink into the plush leather settee and comfy chairs here. The modern home kitchen facilities are at your convenience with chiller and ice maker, a large Sainsbury’s store is less than 5 mins away for the purchase of alcoholic refreshments etc! A large TV in the lounge, with cable can provide entertainment; if TV is your thing? But why bother when you can wander out onto the adjoining wooden decking that overlooks the estuary views. These Unobscured water views are visible from every bedroom window, allowing you to watch the setting sun and rowers exercise or observe the Herons taking rest on the protruding wooden beams of an old sunken vessel in the estuary. A private driveway provides the feel of seclusion and security, with the ability to unload your luggage at the front door and provides limited parking. Bedrooms are clean warm and welcoming, fresh , clean Egyptian linen and ample towels, no tea / coffee facilities or TV is provided in the rooms as all these are made freely available within the house, giving you that true ‘home feeling’. Had a long journey? Fancy a soak by candle light? then submerse yourself in an sumptuous old Victorian style bath, Or you can wash away your days worries in the huge modern bathroom with its purpose built shower that has a huge cascading overhead shower, like those in the movies, one that actually gushes with 100% power and warmth, unlike many hotels or guest houses with their B&Q type hand held nozzles, truly a restroom with a difference.Nothing was too much trouble for the owner, whilst the breakfast is described as Continental, a

'A Room with a View'I was in Plymouth for my Son's 'Passing out Parade' at HMS Raleigh. Having travelled down from Scotland, the previous night/early morning, I was looking for somewhere near at hand with parking. 'Beirnfels' suited to a tee. I arrived a little bit later than I said I would, no problem, a little Fox on duty, provided me with a key to my accommodation. I was told to help myself to tea and coffee, milk in the fridge, etc. Breakfast was arranged for 9 o'clock the following morning. The accommodation was first class, I had a most enjoyable sleep in a very clean and comfortable bed, in a room that overlooked the 'River Plym'. I awoke at 05.30 hours the following morning, to a view that was more than enhanced by the sunshine and blue sky as far as the eyes could see, beautiful and I've got the pictures to prove it. I couldn't lie in bed, got up, went for a walk, called in at Sainsburys for a newspaper and a cup of hot chocolate, made my way back to 'Beirnfels' for around 08.30 hours, had a shower then went down for a full English breakfast just after 9 o'clock, very nice. I can't praise 'Beirnfels' highly enough, including the owners/staff, they were very friendly. Next time I visit, I'll bring my special friend Kate, I'm sure she would enjoy the experience as much as I did.

Comfortable - feels like home away from home. Stunning views and yet not far from the City Centre and handy to the A38.

full of so much promise... so many things righhts, but a few wrong..a beautiful house, well maintained,, you are left to get on with things yourself which is nice. The landlord lives off premises. The rooms are well decorated and even decadent ... but at the same time the bedrooms lack essentials such as bedside tables... tea making facilities and a TV.Whilst you treat the house as part of your experience the lack of furnishings in the rooms was disappointing. The breakfast was again very lacking. Not very appetising and done on the cheap. After asking for a particular time to have breakfast as needed to get away. I felt a 9pm breakfast would have been possible. It was in fact not.Great views and great location.

Spa bath was excellent, just right for two. However, having the switch outside the bathroom means that there is a considerable risk of splashing when one gets out to turn it off.Breakfast was poor.
