This is the worst hotel we've ever stayed at in Mid-town Manhattan. Believe me, we're pretty thrifty when it come to traveling but this place was about as big and clean as a cardboard box in an alley. The only good thing about it was the location; it was two blocks from Grand Central Station. The room was tiny and dirty and the walls were paper thin. You could hear the other guests talking, as well as hear the noise from the street. The staff was rude as can be and of no help at all. I'm pretty sure they hated their jobs/guests. The A/C was mediocre at best. The bed was hard as a rock and the sheets were blood stained. For some reason the maid would only leave us with one wash cloth each time she cleaned the room. [...] The room safe didn't work because the batteries were dead. The closet that the safe was in had a door lock on it but the fifty coats of paint gummed it up so bad we couldn't get the key out of the lock. There were only two outlets in the room and the hotel had two extension cords plugged into the outlets so they could plug in the TV, fridge, clock/radio, lamps, microwave and A/C. This didn't leave any room for guests to plug in their electrical items. The bathroom hairdryer would blow the fuse if the A/C or TV was turned on. The bathroom itself was very tiny and had no exhaust fan. If you took a shower with hot water you had to open the bathroom window to let the steam out. The view from the window looked out onto a disgusting alley and the neighboring dilapidated building that was only 8 feet away. The window was waist high so we got a nice view of the folks across the way when we sat on the toilet. We also got to watch the people in the other building do their workouts every time we opened the bathroom window. If you're their for more than a week you'll get to know them pretty well. Word of warning, remember to reach over and close the bathroom window before pulling back the shower curtain and step out the tub, otherwise, you'll find yourself on di

The rooms were large for New York standards. The carpet could definately do with replacing. A couple of minor problems but nothing that upset our trip in any way. Not all the advertised facilities were available on arrival t.ex the microwave and the iron. We did have to ask for these several times and they did eventually arrive a couple of days later. The number of towels and hygiene products were very hit and miss, you never knew which products or how many towels would be put in the room, but it was a minor inconvenience. Overall we would like to recommend this hotel for its location and the pleasant and helpful staff on the front desk. We would definately stay here again.

Rooms are overheated - so much so that I had to open the windows periodically to bring the temperature down to manageable levels

The location of the hotel is wonderful ... walking distance to everything or the subway. The carpet was a bit dirty and I had a nice view of a brick wall. The bathroom had blue tile and the whole room looked like it hadn't been updated since the '40s. The room was small. It was a good value and I didn't spend much time in the room anyway. This hotel will meet your needs if you are on a budget, but don't expect luxurious rooms. I would stay here again though because the price is reasonable and it is an excellent location.

Do not book a room in this hotel. My sister in law and I booked a room as we were attending the International Beauty Show. We ran late and I called to confirm that we had a room with our impending late arrival via train . The girl said no problem. Well ,we get there and the hotel was very dated, we had our doubts when we walked in. We get to the desk and the mgr tells us he has lost 10 rooms and he has no room for us. After questioning him he said they had water damage..we said why were we not called? He was totally unprofessional, rude and mean to my sister in law and myself. He said he would pay for a cab and send us to there other hotel San Carlos. After him getting very heated and mean and verbally abusive to mostly my sister in law he gave us taxi money and we went onto the other hotel. He actually continued to yell and fight with my sister in law as we walked up the stairs and out the front door. Well thankgod for small favors...the hotel we were sent to was gorgeous a 5 star. The place was beautiful. Staff was awesome, room was gorgeous. They even had free breakfast in the am. We met the owner an elderly gentlemen upon check out and told him about his employee at the Bedford and he said "why would you stay there"?? here is much nicer.LOL this is the owner. He said he was sorry for the treatment of the mgr to us and that he was happy that it turned out nicer for us there. So stay clear of the Bedford mean staff, not a nice hotel very dated, the room keys had weights on them not kidding. Stay at the San Carlos on 50th!!!!We have both stayed in NYC in many hotels and never ever encountered such unprofessional staff service as we did at the Bedford. Plus it is a dump.

Rooms are very spacious, our stay at the Bedford was very pleasant, I totally recommend anyone visiting New York for the first time to stay at the Bedford, it is greatly located to go anywhere in manhatan by foot or any other transportation.

The location and price were unbeatable, but the lobby and room were a little stale. The bed didn't have the crisp, clean feeling I look for in a hotel and the bathroom, just didn't seem that clean. For a couple days in the city on a budget for business or pleasure, I would recommend it and will probably stay here again.

I have stayed @ the Beford three times and the first two were quiet and unremarkable but the last visit was extremely annoying due to a young contingency of 20+ yr old visitors from Europe that carried on until I opened the door and yelled at them to be quiet. There is a very nice Italian restaurant right next door and with reasonable prices, for New York. At the end of the street (50 paces) is a great little restaurant that serves breakfast quickly and reasonably.

We had requested check in at 2 p.m. and this is in line with the hotels check in arrangements - we arrived at 2.15 p.m. and our room was not ready - after a 7 hour flight, this was not acceptable and the hotel did not even give us a complimentary drink - we had to go across the road to Starbucks! The junior suite was drab and there was no door between the living area and the bedroom. Lighting in the bedroom was bleak and the windows were twisted causing draughts! The heating was not thermostatically controlled and it was either too hot or too cold. I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

Huge rooms, and I do mean huge. Fittings are showing their age but I am not complaining as the size of the room and kitchenette more than make up for these minor shortcomings. Only other thing it was a bit cool at night and the heating was not yet on. Staff are pleasant and helpful. 10-15 minute walk to the UN which was great for me.

We enjoyed our stay. It was exactly as "advertised". The one bedroom suite was spacious for the 3 of us. It was very clean. The location is great, places to eat nearby, everything is in walking distance. Hotel staff was helpful and pleasant.

Although I normally wouldn't consider this hotel good value taking just the room and cost into account, it was excellent value given its location and the cost of similar hotels in the area. The room and bathroom were a nice size and very clean. We left our bags here in the morning before checking in and for most of the day after checking out, which was very convenient given that there are no public lockers anywhere in the city. Being a 5 min. walk from Grand Central was a real bonus. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
