Beckett GuesthouseHad very warm welcome from propieter. Rooms were clean and tidy. Only downside was the shower room which was very small. Good central place to stay when visiting York town.

We decided to stay here thinking it would represent better value for money than a cheaper chain hotel. On the plus side: the location was very convenient; on-street parking was available outside the B&B; the owners were friendly and helpful; breakfast was good; and there was free WiFi access. However, our room was dark, tatty, and cluttered. The bathroom was very small and outdated. Noise from other guests stopped us from sleeping. Overall, fine as a base, but less suitable for extended stays.

Great breakfasts. They will cook anything within reason. Room was very small. I had the only single room, I think.

On the Friday night, the first night of my stay, I was flying in to Manchester Airport and was very pleased by the arrangements and flexibility provided for my booking in. The food was freshly cooked and all diets could be accommodated. The customer service was very good and genuine, unlike other places I have stayed in. I graduated from York ten years ago, so remember most parts of the city well. However for the visitor, there is plenty of information about the city available and the hotel is only 15 minutes from the town centre (10 minutes if your are fast!), which meant the hotel was an excellent base for visiting the city and old university friends still in York.

Very friendly hotelier and good location for town centre. Excellent breakfast and will stay again if time available to meet their minimum two night stay policy.

Stayed over for 3 nights during the half term holiday. We had the family room which was in the attic. Spacewise it was quite tight but quaint. The en-suite shower room although adequate was fairly small. We're quite lucky as we are not a very stout or very tall family. The hand basin was tiny and it was a little difficult to brush your teeth or wash your face without spilling water onto the floor. The hot water tap in the basin was broken. Instead of replacing the tap with a new one, the owners have fitted a third tap which when turned on comes out in a fine mist and sprays everywhere. Also there does not seem to be adequate ventilation in the shower room making it a little smelly at times. The attic room can get quite hot at times due to the velux windows and we didn't feel that the fan in the room was powerful enough. Really, all it needs is a little update - not so much the decor but little things such as ventilation, air conditioning and adequate plumbing. We paid £95 per night for a family room which is a little pricey - however this is probably due to its location. It is situated 15 mins walk from the city centre so for people travelling on foot, it is ideally located. The breakfast was good, nicely cooked, good choice and plentiful. However, during the weekends you may be politely requested to attend breakfast in two sittings as the dining area cannot accomodate all the guests at any one time. Only met one of the owners, Melissa - who could not be more helpful if she tried. All in all, we had a pleasant stay at the Becket guesthouse.

Very good location, friendly hosts. Street parking was a real bonus so I didnt have to worry about the car all weekend. Quite a small room with a very small en-suite 'bathroom' - have to take care when showering etc

A very friendly place which just gives you a good feeling. The single was a bit small, but I took a double on my second night there which was just fine. The breakfast is superb. Now, I know a lot of people say this about the breakfast and you wonder - but I stay away an awful lot and have sampled a lot of cooked breakfasts and this is one of the best you'll taste. Value for money and you'll enjoy it.

Families be aware that the family room is in the attic on the third floor, the last flight of stairs is a spiral staircase and the room only has a tiny shower room.

The hotel was basic but of a good standard for a guesthouse. In an excelant location within walking distance from the town and the owners are very friendly. One last thing breakfast was really good too.
