The Barcelo Montelimar all inclusive resort had a gigantic swimming pool which was extremely clean, well located with delightful pool boys (and girls). The nearby beach was beautiful with bathwaterwarm ocean. Most of the evening entertainment included great dance productions. We didn't care for the audience participtation activities prior to the show, but most guests seemed to enjoy them. The staff was friendly and helpful. Plenty of daytime activities. We had trouble getting the maids to deliver 3 towels and 3 bottles of water to our 2 double beds room, but received the extra towel and water w/o any problem when requested. Abundance of food and drink. Tipping not required but gratefully accepted. Middle of the week is best as the locals descend on the week-ends.

Before you reach the actual hotel, you are hit by the beauty of this place as you enter the gates (secured by a guard). It is a long drive to the reception desk. You feel like your driving through a tropical jungle. Check in was a breeze. Quick and easy. Hassle free. The room is very clean and roomy. The staff is very freindly and seems eager to help, but limited English language abilities. If you know a few words in Spanish, or don't mind gesturing, you should have no problem comunicating. Even the security guards who roam the grounds are nice and helpful. The food is not what I would expect from a 5 star restaurant but then again, this is a resort, not a restaurant. Food was in a buffet style. Typical Nica traditional food mostly, and even though I am not big on seafood, the fish was actually the best. The grounds are well kept, and for those who are interested in different types of trees and plants, they do have signs telling you what they are. Beaches were empty, seemed that people prefer the pools, but that is ok with me. Made for nice romantic walks on the beach without having to worry about stumbling over someone. Maybe since I was there during the week, that may have made a difference. I was there only 3 and a hlaf days, but now I wish it was longer. To enjoy the whole experience, try to be there at least a week. I know the next time I go, I plan on taking many members of my family with me and probably stay at least 6 or 7 days. Only drawbacks I can say about this place, is that they should give their staff more training in English. Also they may want to incorporate some type of courtesy shuttle to and from the airport( even for a small fee) As of right now, you have to take a taxi and it is a $60.00 (American money) ride each way (on average 1.5 hour trip one way).

We chose this hotel for the beautifully advertised pool (largest in central america)and beach. The pool was under renovation the 5 days stay. It looked like it had been closed for awhile beforehand. Beach was dirty with trash and debris. Other than those two big issues, the trip was great. Staff friendly and speak "a little" english. Food was excellent local cuisine. Location is 1.5 hours from airport. We stayed at the resort the entire time and enjoyed it. Zoo was cool and the scenery coudn't have been more green and beautiful. A small tip goes along way with the locals:) They are very genuine, hardworking people!

Barcelo Montelimar Beach Resort is a secluded hotel away from any hustle and bustle. All you hear is the ocean waves and the tropical birds. A big positive of this hotel is that it is huge - You can find a quiet place just about anywhere whether it is on a beach chair, on one of the hundreds of hammocks in the shade, or by one of the three pools. Another positive is that there is something for everyone and it is included in the all-inclusive package, including kayaks, boogie boards, mini-golf, pool games, pingpong, giant chess, beach volleyball, basketball, casino, four-wheeling (extra $), horseback riding (extra $), etc. The pool is huge and very clean. The beach was clean and the waves were big. The rooms are nice. We had a bungalow for two people. It had a king size bed which was extremely comfortable, and a seperate bathroom. The room was adequately cleaned everyday. Most channels on the TV were in Spanish. The only problems we had were occasional lizards and 1 small spider inside our room - no biggie. The lizards do not bother anyone. Also, at night there were tons of bats that you have to be careful about because they fly right past your door. They don't bother you though. Lastly, the food and variety were good. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, as are poolside snacks and beverages. The buffets had many of the same items each night, but many different ones as well. There is something for everyone. Vast selection of dessert too. However, there was a small variety alcoholic beverages. They had one kind of beer and seemed to only serve rum for free. No margaritas or daquiries, just pina coladas that were average. Fresh fruit and juices were excellent.

I just came back froma 5 day vacation with my girlfriend and we loved it. Beautiful and well kept, the Barcelo was great. athe staff was very friendly and there are plenty of acivities. The resort was rather empty, maybe 60-70 people, most of the time. On the weekend it filled with locals and those from neighboring countries. I recommend the day trips by taxi, which are available at the front desk. For $120, we went to the Masaya Volcano, the market, the isletas(little islands) , Granada and Caterina!!! All beautiful and VERY safe. Taxi ride from airport was about $70 each way. Our only complaint was the food at the resort. Breakfast was good, omelets and such, but lunch and dinner left something to be desired. The need to make MORE Nicaraguan food and not try to make American Food, They Can't!! Other than that, bring your own mugs and keep track of them because their cups are rather small for drinks. Tips are appreciated by all, so give a little, it will go along way( i.e. bartenders and maids)>

We visited this hotel expecting to find accomadations and services that were superb. This did not happen. After traveling for aproxamately 10 hours and the last 2 1/2 hours to make it there we were hungry we were told that at the pool they were serving lunch. They only had hot dogs french fry some fresh fruits and stalled plantains chips. They had signs of hamburgers sandwiches when asked they did not served them .Once we made it to the rooms we had to call up because of the foul smell. They send a person to try to neutralized the smell.that di not work and we could not have a diferent room till 2 days later. The hotel also offered cable service the reception on the two rooms was bad, this problem was not resolve till 4 days later after complaining every day. At dinner time we went to the restaurant buffet. The food that they served was the same all seven days we stayed there, fish was so hard that I had trouble cuting it.the beef pieces of steak had lots of brissel. The hotel only offer A la CART dinnig if you pay extra and when we had no other option the food offered had to be order in the morning for that evening dinning. It was only a little better and we still had to sit in the main buffet restaurant. My family chose to travel outside the Hotel everyday and have dinner before we made it back. Its a shame that the country have lots of things to see and experince but no other option when it comes to staying in an all inclusive Hotel. I have being asked if I would go back and my answer is NO.

in 300Words! MUST DO-prearrange transportation with the Montiplier to and from airport .. Arrive as early as possible in the day and try to arrive weekday to avoid CROWDS at weekend Stay in the cabanas--request one in the 1 or 2 hundredsection close to everything. Housekeeping was thorough, I tipped $2 every day and at the end of our trip I left everything I did not need for the trip home ie shaving cream, shampoo, lotions,, magazines and a little extra $$etc. Do not be alarmed about a/c IF yours breaksdown--ours did--fixed promptly. The food was not typical Barcelo--very little diversity. Little food available at the pool service island and the pool grill was often out of supplies and slow. They do not servce the swim up bar well. they prefer that you drink outside of the pool or at pool bar--ie not along the edge of the pool. However, you won't go hungry and the rum based drinks were good.. The pool was clean&well maintained. Cover ups are not allowed in the pool unless they are made of nylon ??? The pool people are very serious about this.. The beach current was a little rough but the waves were fabulous!!! We "hammock" hopped after the first day to enjoy the beach and avoid the sun. You can check in flights on line but they do not have a printer to print boarding passes Cost to use internet $5/30minutes. Just like in any country most of the staff very friendly--a few were not. Dine a little later in the eveningif you prefer a more adult atmosphere. We will return in August for 3rdvisit. Trip to/from airport makes one appreciate the beauty of the Niocaraguan country but also appreciate home. Language was not a barrier for us at all. Happy Trails!

I never thought my vacation was going to be as wonderful as I had planned. Room service was daily and efficient. The pool was very big and clean at all time and easy to find a spot to stay. The beach was awesome, very clean, spacious, and a beautiful view. They also had a variety of activities such as horse back riding, volleyball, ect. The food from the restaurant was very delicious, tasteful, and a variety of food was also served so anyone could choose from. All I can say, I was traveling by my self and I thought I was going to be bored, but I was wrong. I was treated with respect, and candid feelingsfrom all the staff, and made me feel like if I was part of their family. I never felt lonely. I felt like a princess at all time. I am definetely going back again and soon...Thank you for everything!!! Dalia F Miami, F

$* usd a night per person is a great deal for all inclusive. My wife and I decided to stay an extra night after our check out day. And on check day you can still stay until 2 pm (just leave your stuff at the front desk to watch) so you still get to eat breakfast and lunch.
