Friendly staff, breakfast wait staff very friendly. Dinner wait staff not as friendly. Hard to get service during busy times at dinner. Silver ware and napkins not readily available. A great place to stay for the price. The beach is beautiful and peaceful. Vendors on the beach can be a pain. Need to be able to say no initially and quickly if not interested, however each vendor pays to be on that beach and must be licensed.

We really enjoyed our stay, Feb 8th to 15th, 2009. Check in was prompt and organized. We arrived before check in time, but were given our wrist bands and went for lunch and beach time. Rooms were great, in the 4000 section and bottom floor with a view of beach. Hotel staff friendly and knowlegeable. Very clean rooms. Food was typical. We have been in the DR before and knew what to expect. But lots of variety at the restaurants. No problems geting reservations at the al a carte restaurants. Did not use the French restaurant. Would stay there again.

when we got to the hotal they gave me my room key found out that this room was taken. yea thats right not only that one but the six other room they gave us yes it took them 2hr to get me a room when i get there the irons don't work the phone don't work it smell like mildew. there service is terrible you ask for something and it never gets done i had no phone in the room for 3 days. every time i needed something i had to came down from my room and to the office spoke to maneger personel in charge nothing got done the addministration is terrible. front desk service was terrible i would never stay in this hotel again (there shows are not family shows they should be rated) i spend more time trying to situate my self in this hotel insteed of have fun. food not good at all

Please, if you aren't dominican, please don't go. The hotel if full of locals on weekend. They are so Noisy. The bathroom in the room 3307 is so NASTY. The air conditioner sting. We tell them but in the 5 days that I was there, they never came to fits the bath. The country is beautiful, but the Barcelo Capella Hotel it's a totally disaster. I don't liked. I never been there anymore and I don't recomended. Please cheapticket don't list this hotel anymore.

The beach was beautiful and the food was good. They move you to the worst room to see if you complain about it. They move you to the worst room to see if you complain about it. Once you do, they tell you that the hotel is full when its not. Once the move you to building 4, you will enjoy your stay. They also tell you that the hotel resteraunts are full and they are not, smile and complain until they give you a reservation. The beach is beautiful but the vendors are like flies, the best repelant is to buy something cheap and show it to the rest of the vendors. Do not go outside the resort without a reliable Dominican tour guide. I am from Puerto Rico, I know the language and we rented a car. In the capital we were stopped by the police for allegedly going against traffic, untrue. One of the officers actually got inside our car and told us to drive, so we were technically sequestered. I had to give the officer $40 to go away but the experience was terrifying. He could have droped a bag of coccaine and that would have been the end of the vacation. I recomend everyone considering going to the Dominican Respublic to go to Puerto Rico, its a bit more expensive, but its safe and we are very turist friendly.

Was very pleasantly suprised and glad to have booked through travel website. We arrived on red-eye flight at 4AM and was expecting to hang around hotel till we could check in later, but front desk multilingal staff were very helpful and managed to get us into a room within 20 minutes of arrival. We did have to pay for a 1/2 day rate of $58, but got in the room 12 hours sooner than expected. The grounds are spectacular w/crews out daily to groom plants and keep the beach and common areas very well maintained. There are some vendors on the beach, just tell them no thanks and they move on. The room was older on second floor of 3000 building w/no elevators, but we did have an ocean view and with small tips the maid gave extra attention including fresh flowers, extra towels, & bottled water & cokes. the phone was not working on last day, but was not a problem since we were checking out. the TV was satelite and did have limited English channels, but expected in a Spanish speaking country. I just want to say there were many nations represented, and if staff did not understand or speak English they would try to find another staff to help; on my dive trip only 2 Americans out of 16 but guides were multilingual. Food was good, great variety and options for ala carte at 2 others restraunts, agree w/recommendation for Olas Grill for dinner Checked out at noon, but able to eat lunch & dinner before shuttle to plane.

The Font Desk personal was not friendly. It took the front desk 2hours 1/2 to find my reservation they send me to six diffrent rooms were pepole were sleeping. My flight got delayed and got to the hotel and did not recived my room it 4:30 in the morning. Got to the room the phone didn't work the iron didn't work. It took them 3 days to fix the phone and I had to look for a iorn because they never took care of the problem. The services on the resturant they were poor. There intertaments not sudeble for kids or teen they should rate these shows. I was very upset instead of relaxing and having a great time it took me 3 days to get situated in this hotel. I gave complains even to the owner and it did no good. I think this hotel should be rated 2 not 31/2. It defenetly did not meet my standards.

The exterior of the resort was beautiful, but the interior was shabby. The tile was chipped on the floor and on the walls in the bathroom, and the furnishings were shabby. Also, the sheets stayed damp our entire visit even with the air conditioning on. The room was also very small. The staff was friendly and the food delicious. As I said, the exterior was lovely. The tour guide was very informative and patient with the tourists. We went to Santo Domingo and visited the historical section as well as newer section. We, also, toured the Cave of the Three Eyes. Overall, except for the room, we had a good time.

All-inclusive, wonderful! The rooms could use some updating. The room didn't have a balcony. The food selection was very limited for vegetarians. The guest rooms were quite large, but outdated. Overall though, it was a beautiful looking, romantic place, for the price.

This resort to us, was not American friendly! We seemed to be treated as second class, pretty much by most of the staff. We were passed over while in line waiting several times. To top it off we had to be moved to another room as it was a mess. Very dirty, the hot tub didn't work, the toilet was leaking water all over the floor. The second room wasn't too much better. We found out later that they put us in the old section which was run down and needs attention and the newer section was over on the other side which we didn't see untilI walking around. I could write a book about all we encountered. Take my advice, if your an American, I would stay away. If you do go book the new section. The grounds and beach are beautiful however the local vendors are like flies, always bothering you to buy something. This was our third all-inclusive trip so we knew what to expect but never thought it would be this bad.

If you like clean rooms, free of humidity and mildew; this is not the resort for you. In general the workers are pretty friendly and helpful but the quality of service is very poor. I do not feel that travelocity should list this resort as a 3 star because it is not! First of all, upon arrival the reception area is quite small we did not know which line to join; there were people checking in and others checking out and when I got to the front the gentleman told me that I was on the check out line. When we walked into our room the smell of mildew and humidity was overwhelming. It was so humid that the bed covers and floors were wet!. We asked to be changed and were told that they did not have enough staff to clean more rooms. Our room had to be cleaned again before we could unpack. If it would not have been prepaid; I would have checked out and gone to another facility. Then, the next morning we found out that the iron did not work. We called guest services and it took two more days to get another iron. In the bathroom the towel holder was coming apart and if you need wash towels make sure you bring your own because they do not have any. They only use bath and hand towels. There was a tissue box half empty and when it was completed we did not get a replace. The electricity did not work for one whole day and the last day we stayed the satellite for the TV did not work. When I complained they did not even bother to appologize for their service. The only thing that they kept decent were the gardens.

The hotel is great, the grounds are gorgeous! The neverending buffet definetely added to my waistline. The staff are generally curteous and attentive to what you need. The beach is long, sandy, and very sunny. perfect little getaway location. It is a ways from the capitol city, about 45 minutes. There is little else to do around Juan Dolio, so be prepared to stay at the resort the entire time. The weekends can become crowded with locals, but offseasons are relatively quiet during the week.

I was skeptical, because of the mixed reviews, but since this was a last minute trip, I had no other options. What a pleasant surprise when we arrived at the hotel! Service @ reception was a little slow but employees were very friendly and helped us move to a different room when I said I was not satisfied with the original I was assigned. My kids had a great time and I felt confortable letting them roam the property on their own, as the hotel has security guards everywhere and there's also police @ beach. We left several items @ restaurant or by the pool and were able to retrieve them @ security desk. Food ok, not excellent, but you have a lots of options as the buffett offers many choices. Grounds and beach were impecable, and personnel was extremely nice, friendly and helpful We loved X our scuba instructor, X who arranged our tours (he's by the beach) and X who entertained us every night and is an excellent dancer ... thanks to everybody, you made of ours a very memorable vacation. You must come with realistic expectations and enjoy your stay, look for the positive and you will have a great time!

This hotel was so beautiful in my eyes. My husband stayed in the same hotel on a previous guy trip and he completely under sold the beauty of the place. The hotel is big and the landscaping is amazing. All of the pools are clean and well kept and the beach is lovely. The dinning area is clean and comfortable. The day staff that are in charge of the activities are very friendly and a lot of fun. The night shows are fun and exciting; even if you don't speak the language you can still get a good laugh. The only negative aspect of the whole trip was the people that sell there goods on the beach can be a little annoying but you can definitaly get a good deal from them.

Overall good hotel for the price. They have 4 restaurants. The French Restaurant: Chez Fontaine is pretty good but you pay just $20 for wine, soup or salad, main entree, dessert. Not bad! All other restaurants are included in the deal. El Pescador is the main buffet restaurant and have a wide variety of choices to meet different palates. It wasn't bad. They had pizza, hamburger, and plenty of salads, fruits, seafood, chicken, pork and stewed beef. You can drink the water so long as you request bottled water at the restaurant- in fact, that is all they serve. The entertainment was ok. Two good sized pool and several bars throughout the location. You'll have to pay about $2 for premium drinks which is not bad compared to US prices. Otherwise you'll get locale brands which aren't bad but just not the same. The one main disappointment for me was the Wi-FI. There is Wi-Fi service and I used it. I paid $10 for a full day access but half the time it didn't work so be wary. I used the Fitness Center but it was dirty and could be upkept. The rooms were elegant and nicely decorated but a bit old..and humid! Yes, there was a bug or two but I saw the problem was the maids. Whenever they came to do the rooms, the room door was left open thus allowing some bugs to crawl in. They were mostly a few ants or a beatle. If you leave a couple of bucks with a simple note (like "More water", "More coffee") near the coffee maker you can request additional bottled water for the room and extra cofee bags. English is an issue so learn some basic spanish. I speak spanish. They don't have a minibar but the water is important for coffee. Don't drink the tap or fawcett water or you'll get sick. Use the bottled water to brush your teeth. The beach I didn't frequent but I've seen better. It was ok. THe hotel is about 18 miles from the airport so plan accordingly. Overall, a good value for the price and I would go back again.

The food and the variary of choice andstaff plus. The bed was horrible andold matress. Is not a location for night life but if u what to relax and be safe this is the place to be. Close to the town, airport and other atrattion. My son loved it too.

indeed i had a great time. staffs are very friendly and helpful. the resort was extremely clean. all the staff work really hard to maintain the cleanliness. we were caught up in between hurricane hanna, but we had a lot of fun. the only problem is currency exchange. we had hard time exchanging currency. food and liquer was really high quality. taxi fair from the airport was $$, but if you book from travelocity you get discounts and better taxi services. i would go back again. i simply loved it. if you want to enjoy the nature's true beauty then you will love this resort.

These was the first time for a few of us in Dominican republic specially in the Capella hotel, everything was very unique, the staff very profecional, the food was deliciuos . We just came back from there and we are already thinking in our next trip to these georgues place
