I stayed at this resport with my wife and another couple. hear is our review of Barcelo Palace DEluxe. This resort needs many improvements. Lets start with the unfriendly and rude staff throughout the resport (all bartenders, waiter/waitress, housekeepers, casino staff.....everyone). The beach staff sits behind a desk all day and tell "come back in a 1/2 hour" and never follow through on there promises. The ENTIRE staff has selective hearing. I tried to tip everyone to help speed up the service and all you get is slower service. Mid-way through our trip we stopped tipping b/c there was no difference in service. If you do not speak spanish, you are going to have a tuff time EVERYWHERE in the resort. It seemed as if the staff would not even try to listen to you if you didn't speak spanish. The food: TERRIBLE! I read all the reviews prior to going and everyone that says the food is good, does not know what good food is. If you think Mcdonald's is "great" food then you will like the food at this resort. Orbitz does not tell you that half of the resort is shut down for renovations and therefore the resturant choices are narrowed down to 7 instead of 14. If you do go to this resort eat at the french resturant everyday. Pay the money, it's well worth it. Entertainment: What a joke! We went to the show one night and all it consisted of was girls in a thong all dancing out of sequence. Looked like they just learned te preformance the night before. The casino games are normal, but againt the staff is very unfriendly and make you feel unwanted. The Rooms: They are nice w/ a hot tub on the balcony, but again the staff screws this up. there were 4 of the 8 days we stayed when the housekeper NEVER came to our room (Great service, huh?). When she did come the room was nice and clean. Overall this place was for someone who can eat lousy food, terrible service, horrific entertainment, and 2 tiny pools. I have stayed at several all-inclusives thoughout the caribbean and this is by far

The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe - Jr. Suite was simply WONDERFUL. The rooms were very clean and well stocked. The bed was very comfortable and firm. The staff were extremely friendly though communication was at times a little difficult. The air conditioning never got cool-just confortable. The only bad experience we had was the towel guy he was VERY RUDE. We were steps from the beach. The compound consisted of 4 or 5 hotels and we were alble to walk up or down the beach and stop at any of the other hotels and eat/drink. The food was always hot and fresh. And the dining staff always seemed to try to make sure that your meals were enjoyable. Everything was 10 min. or less walking distance-the disco, either casino, shopping. Shopping was fun but we found that every vendor has the exact same items so it was more about pricing. We were very apprehensive about the hotel because of limited info about this hotel but it was TERRIFIC. I would definately return!!! we never did find the exercise room or pool but we had the beach and long walks instead.

Great hotel. Very modern and clean. Quiet and very relaxing. The only issue I had was that none of the staff spoke English which made it difficult to figure out where things were, but then again I was in their country so maybe I should have learned some Spanish. :)

I traveled with my husband, sis and brother in law. First we arrive and they placed my sister and brother in-law is a room with double queen/twin beds! We arrive at about 8pm and check in, rest and are out and about at about 11pm, by now, we are starving...but guess what, there is no food available because they close down for the night. SO if you're hungry when it's not on their schedule, good luck. Okay, flash forward to day 2, I call down to guest services (what a joke!) and request more chocolate chip cookies, they assure me, we'll bring them right up....we'll they never come. Flash forward to day 3, I call and ask if I can have more beer, sprite and cookies....2 hours later I get beer. They girl tells my husband, I'll be right back with the rest. She never comes back! I call down and ask for them again, they then tell me, we do not have any and have not had any for the past three days!!! Okay, fine. Next day comes, and we're on our way to Santo Domingo at 6:40 am, we call room service for snacks/food (it's a 4 hours one way road trip) and No room service till 8:30 am! As if this wasn't enough, thru out the entire trip, we asking the maids for more towels, water, sprite, beer anything...and we never got any of it! Wait there's more...so its 3 am and my brother in-law is up with food poisoning, we call the medical office and no doctor!!! SO, if you get sick and you're not feeling well and it's before 5 am, good luck!!! I will never go back to this hotel, ever. Good luck if you do.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is the newest addition to the Resort. All rooms are Junior Suits with a contemporary, open design. All rooms have a private jacuzzi on the balcony and we really enjoyed using that after the beach. All rooms have a view on the ocean and are very quiet. The ocean is very clear and shallow, which makes it safe for kids to swim and snorkel. There are no big waves, since they have a protecting reef. The beach and the water was very clean. Enough deck chairs for everybody. We specially picked that Resort because all of us play golf and there are 3 free greenfees included for 7 days stay. HOWEVER: The golf course is being rebuild at the moment and we could only play the 9 front holes. They will continue rebuilding the front 9 next year. This was a bummer and we only learned about that on arrival. There are many, many other courses in the vicinity and we played great rounds with phenomenal views on other courses - be prepared to pay a fat greenfee... 2 of the 5 hotels were closed, one is being rebuild and should be finished by December 09. Therefore we could only use 5 restaurants of the predicted 14. Those were very good. The food is great and you can choose from a huge variety of food. If you are staying at the Palace or Palace Deluxe you have all the drinks and food for free everywhere in the Resort, also on the golf course. The staff is really helpful and friendly, it helps if you speak Spanish though. All the hotels are in walking distance and you can also use a little train, if you don't feel like walking. All inclusive has proven to be a great concept with our kids, since they could get drinks and food whenever they wanted and you don't get a big surprise-bill at the end of your vacation. They have a big animation programm (which we did not use) and a lot of sport equipment (which we used a lot) like catamarans, pedalo, kajak, banana boats.... It was a great vacation and we would certainly go back - after they have finished the golf cours

The location was great. The staff spoke little to no English which made things a bit hard. The food was horrible! The food looked like it has been siting out all day. We ended up having a lot of stomach issues so remember your Pepto-Bismol :-). Things a really expensive there and you are swarmed by the people when you go to the Flea Market. They try to rip you off any chance they get. Remember lots off cash. Finding a ATM was a huge issue because people couldn't understand us. Plus it was a long walk away. Most activities/buildings were closed. If you are looking for a quiet, warm, and gorgeous place to stay this is the place.

The Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe oceanfront rooms are great with fabulous views, jacuzzis on the balcony or patio and steps from the sand. The palm tree lined beach and warm, clear, calm water are spectacular.Good food choices and while not excellent by foodie standards still something for everyone. Best: steakhouse, Mexican, & seafood. Plenty of activities and non motorized watercraft and pools nice but the beach is the thing here, as good as it gets. Staff tries hard. You will find this resort a great deal for the money & want to go back. This review is from someone who has been to top beach resorts all over including Bali, Hawaii, Mexico, Thailand, etc.

I traveled to Punta Cana on 04/05/09 w/a girlfriend and we stayed at Barcelo Bavaro Palace "Jr. Suites" for a week.(age group 25-30) It was a great room because it had a jacuzzi in the patio. I had a great view of the beach. I definitely recommend these rooms. Don't be confused with the original Barcelo Bavaro Palace rooms becaue the "JR SUITES" are the new rooms w/jacuzzi's in the patio. Room is very modern and new. Cute bathroom with modern dual sinks. My room had a couch, flat screen tv, ipod alarm clock, and small fridge. Did I mention great view. As far as resort, this is an all inclusive package and you will have many different restaurants to choose from to eat. Food is ok. The only reason to leave the resort is if you go on excursions such as spelunking or scuba diving. Which I highly recommend. The tour I paid for included 45 min horse ride, hike, and tour in the cave. It's called "cueva fun fun." This Barcelo resort has a casino, night club, and shows on site. I never left the resort besides the one excursion. Take a scroll on the beach and there are huts thats offer activities for snorkeling, catamarans, kayaking, all for a small fee. Another hut offers scuba diving excursions which is also highly recommended. Had a great time all in all. Resort is real safe. Lots of kids and families because of spring break, would have been even greater without. Beach chairs were always taken. So if you want to tan on the beach good luck finding chairs. Can't tell whether the empty chairs were available or not because guests would leave their towels on them.

The room and location was exactly what the website and pictures advertised We got the junior suite so the room was huge, with a jacuzi outside on the balcony. The room is very modern with cool design, ipod player, flat screen TV, king size bed, basically all the amenties of first class hotel. Because we went there for our honeymooon, we got an extra reception: flower, champaign and fruit plates. One thing that was very disappointing is the food. Except for the buffet La Brasia, which is decent, every restuarnt we tried were terrible. Although there were many restuarants to choose from (French, DR, American, Mexico, Grill, etc), most of the food, especailly the seafood, were salty and overcooked. At its supposedly best restuarant, the French restuarnt, it was uneatable. Again, the seafood I got was salty, my husband's steak was overcook. They can't seem to cook decent food eventhough they have great ingredents like lobster, steak, etc. However, everything else in that resort was amazing. The deluxe section we stayed in was very quiet, not alot of people. There were at most only a handful of people on the beach and by the pool each day. Everyday we just hang out by the beach and pool and had a fabulous and relaxing time. It was definitely a great honeymoon spot if you're looking for a romantic and beautiful spot.

i had a great time at the resort. the food was great and the drinks were fruity. the room was exactly what was shown on the hotel review and that was the best. the only bad part was that the employees didn't speak to much english or none at all. we still had a blast and would recommend anyone to go. also we went to relax, so if your looking for a party place this is not for you. the performaces were super and very entertaining. please try it for yourself.

The hotel is very modern, and is well kept. The food was pretty good. The service was horribly. It is not worth the money. Go somewhere else if you want good service. The staff was friendly but if you did not speak spanish you had a hard time! If they saw no tip, they would almost ignore you! We had such a hard time trying to drinks. Also do not get the ground transportation. once you are there, they make you meet someone so that they can try to get you to book excursions. If you do not meet with them thru appt. forget about trying to confirm you pick up time. We ended up paying an additional $30 for a taxi. Also, must of the other hotels in the resort were closed. Althought it says you have 14 selections for dinning, because the other hotels are closed, there is only half the selection.

The new block of junior suites provides a wonderfully designed and appointed room, including hot tubs on the patio. The blocks of rooms are located on a quiet stretch of beach between the palace and beach resorts respectively. This allows for plenty of ocean real estate for lounging and morning strolls, however it also necessitates a bit of a walk to most of the restaurants/facilities of the palace. If you are looking for nice rooms and a beautiful, secluded beach then the palace deluxe is perfect for you (and reasonably priced). I would say that the level of service and the dining do not meet the high standards of the rooms. The new JS section needs to have its own separate support features (restaurant, pool etc.)

Very nice. Mosquito at night but there were many places to eat and the food was great! There are two restaurants that are buffet style full I mean FULL of flies and we wouldn't eat there but the one by the main desk was inside and no flies at all.

being retired we just wanted to relax on the beach. the shows at night and people partying were a little noisey. the breeze off the ocean was cool and people on the beach had to cover up. the wind was so strong at night that you couldn't walk near the beach at times. the food was good and we had no trouble talking to the hotel staff. you can't snorkel off the beach, there's just nothing but sand because the reef is so far out. it was nice not having people selling stuff on the beach
