Built next to the once highest railroad station east of the Rockies- at 3500 feet-the Inn has served a century as a retreat and relief from the summer heat found in the Southeast USA.
The Inn is today as it was then only each room has a private bath.
Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway- it features 50 spacious guest rooms and suites. Each room is distinctive in decor size and layout. Frequent guests enjoy the uniqueness of this facility.

Wonderful old inn with great service and restaurant. We have only stayed at the inn once for a wedding, which was beautiful. But we drive an hour a few times a year just to dine in the fabulous restaurant. The setting is very pretty, on a sun porch with fresh flowers on each table. The shrimp & grits is a must have. My sister loves the trout, and try the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. These are just some of our favorites, but I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have a great wine list and excellent waitstaff. We highly recommend the Balsam Mountain Inn for lodging or dining.

I stayed with my film crew for just over two weeks in July. One word that I can say for this place Incredible The staff was better to me and the rest of the crew than any five star service I've ever seen. The laid back easy going atmosphere is something any person would love. The restaurant has great food and kept the great service through the entire inn. Anyone wanting a weekend getaway or a month long vacation in the mountains need to call Balsam Mountain Inn

I enjoyed my stay at The Balsam Mountain Inn. I am a registered nurse who enjoyed the peace and quiet. The location is isolated but there are many great small towns close by as well as Asheville. I love to antique shop and had many shops to choose from in the small towns and Asheville. The food at the Inn was award winning. My favorites were the french toast and rainbow trout.I will definitely stay here again.

The inn had rocking chairs on the front porches of both the main floor and the second story, well kept flower beds, and a pleasant front desk staff. The best aminity is that it is one half mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The king sized bed was new and comfortable. A pleasant mountain get-away.

We are repeat visitors to Balsam Mountain Inn. We love it because of the quaint and Peaceful nature of the Inn. There are no phones or TV in the rooms, which we appreciate. As a family we spent time reading, playing games and hiking. We call it ""our visit to Walton's Mountain"". We love the old wooden screens doors, the big porches with the rockers and the peace of the mountain. Dinner has always been a treat.Everyone is very welcoming and the rooms clean and old-fashioned.of
