Faded GradeurWell trained staff, and a fantastic position. Some of the blinds and fitting a little tired.

The Balmoral Hotel is an amazing historic building placed right in the middle of the new town and old town. It is an excellent location to see all the major sights of Edinburgh. The hotel staff were exceptionally helpful for all of our needs. I would love to return and stay again. Highly recommendable!

Balmoral was really good. Staff were very friendly. My girlfriend and I were upgraded to a suite and the room was not only really nice but, it had an excellent view of Edinburgh castle. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We are New Zealanders currently living in New York and were looking for a weekend away at Easter. This is a top quality hotel. Staff were unfailingly polite, attentive and helpful; upon arrival, whenever we returned from excursions, and upon departure. (We often find that hotels, having got your money, often fail to help you with baggage upon departure). Rooms are clean, well-appointed and spacious, with high ceilings that make them feel even more spacious. Bathrooms are spacious, clean and have quality fittings. The lobby is attractive and welcoming with an open log fire blazing. We ordered room service on two occasions and both times the service was excellent, with the food well presented, even to the extent of an orchid being placed on the trolley. On the Saturday night we dined in the brasserie, and we found the menu comprehensive, with an emphasis on local food, including salmon, venison, lamb and haggis. The quality of the food was excellent. However, although the service was attentive when we first arrived in the restaurant, it fell down towards the end of the evening when the restaurant became full and the staff appeared to become overwhelmed by the numbers dining. Perhaps this is one area the management could look at. The hotel is in an excellent central location, and the building itself is a landmark building and very beautiful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody willing to pay a bit more to achieve a quality experience.

Hampden Agencies Meeting 9/07/2009I stayed at the Balmoral for one night after travelling from Orkney to attend a meeting organised by Hampden Agencies. I found the hotel staff very welcoming and helpful. My room was extremely comfortable and very well provided except that I would have liked to have had tea and coffee making equipment for my morning cuppa! Breakfast, however, was excellent and quite reasonably priced at £18.50. I would like to stay there again.

Very welcoming and fabulous attention to detailYou are made to feel very welcome on arrival and during your entire stay at the Balmoral with an excellent attention to detail throughout. We had our 16 month old son with us and the in room was a bottle warmer and steraliser, two sizes of baby bath, a complimentary bath duck and a teddy bear at bed time. Room service food as well as the Number One restaurant was excellent, but breakfast wasn't as good as I've experienced elsewhere. Overall an excellent few days away and we'd definitiely book again through late rooms.

I thought the hotel was lovely and very clean and well appointed. I appreciate I got a reduced rate by booking with laterooms.com, but I did think breakfast should have been included as part of the cost. Also I wasn't happy that for some strange reason my debit card was debited with an extra £200 on top of the full cost of the accommodation 'just in case I used the mini bar etc'. There was then the refunding process to be gone through before I left. It made me feel that as a guest I wasn't trusted - even though I paid for the room in full on my arrival.

booked 2 rooms through laterooms. was my mom's 60th so got her and my dad a luxury room whereas my partner and i got ourselves a classic room. when we checked in we were informed that my parents' room was upgraded to a castle-facing luxury room and we had the option of upgrading ours as well for an extra £50 which we declined. hotel was luxurious, bathroom was nice and spacious, and the views were fantastic. pool was a little small and the sauna/steamroom facilities were a bit limited but still ok. overall a great experience although the laterooms discount was significant and we may not have stayed without this discount.

£3 charge for a bucket of ice!!!!We were charged £3 for a bucket of ice, this was a room service charge, surely if you book a hotel that has room service you shouldn't expect to pay extra for a service that they advertise

Food was good but variable with quality being superb one night and OK the next. Food & Drink were expensive.

NIceHotel was great, staff, facilities drinks, service. The room was nice but for the rates asked at normal price definately not worth it.We paid a reduced Late rooms price so it was fair.
