Negatives: A good stay until I got the extras bill. I was charged for items off the mini bar that we never used, in fact we never used anything as the cost was about 3x that of elsewhere. They refused to believe that we didn't consume the items and implied I was a liar. The phone bill was a shock, they charge over double of anywhere else and it is already expensive to make international calls from Bali. Positive. The landscaping, lagoons and pools are lovely. The room was nice but quite dark.

First off, I searched everywhere on the 'Net and online travel website gave the lowest prices around. I hope they'll continue to do this when I book my next vacation. When we arrived at the Ayodya Palace Resort, we were in awe. The picture of the deluxe (standard) room was spot on but the pictures they have on their website don't even come close to fully showing how beautiful the place really is. The pool and all the facilities are gorgeous. They even have big monitor lizards in the lagoon which we fed every morning after the daily complementary buffet breakfast. The dinner theater was spectacular though very pricey ($100 for 2 people) and don't bother using the spa, restaurants, or the money exchange unless you have cash to burn. Instead, go to the Bali Collection a 10 minute walk away or wait for the free shuttle which comes every hour. There you can get a good meal for less and exchange your money safely for the best rates. It's worth it to rent a scooter ($5-$7/day if renting for several days) for these little excursions to the Bali Collection or to ride into the village. In the village you'll find inexpensive places to eat, shop, get laundry done, and get a massage. Don't try riding any further though unless you're used to how they drive in Bali. The air-conditioning in the rooms need work as they don't go very high especially if you need them during the hot mid-day but they do work to keep the room several degrees cooler than the outside temps. House keeping was very good and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We made friends with some of them and hope to be able to stay at the Ayodya Palace in the future.

POSITIVE: Beautiful property with wonderful pool, landscaping, design. Very friendly staff, always nice and smiling! Breakfast is included and free. NEGATIVE: Expensive......... Everything at the hotel is WAY overpriced. The food, the tours, phone calls, business center, drinks, snacks, etc. A 12 minute call to the US was about 60!!!!!!!!!!! A 4 min call at another hotel costs us about 3! Tried to have this explained to me response was, "I'm sorry". I was charged for local calls that were not even connected thru!!! Internet use is not free at the business center. Transport to airport with the hotel is not free and is about double that of metered taxis. Sheraton had free airport transfers and internet use. Tours are expensive at the hotel being about double the rate outside. Our tour Driver was very nice but could barely understand English and got lost. Room was not really clean and bathroom can be dangerous entering/exiting the bathtub. Carpet was old and dirty. Stores in hotel are very expensive and sales clerks want you to buy of course. A snorkel rental at the hotel for 1 hour was US 15!!!!!!!!!!!!! Snorkel was junk! On Gili Island it was 2 all day and better condition. When at the beach, even on hotel property(grass) the beach hawkers will call out to you and when I didn't buy something from one they swore at us. Sorry, but next time I won't be this hotel. For this kind of money in Bali...............................

The best word to discribe the Ayodya Palace is ""Paradise"" service in the hotel was second to none, all the staff were very attentive to our every need. My only negative comment would be the bar prices in the hotel were some what higher than the local facilities, leaving the bar in the hotel empty most evenings, which is a shame as the overall surroundings were superb & very well looked after.
