Beware of timeshare scam or pricing add ons. You will be approached at airport by man selling you trip to Isla Mujeres for cheap.- he is in on the scam. see tripadvisor and see negative reviews so you get an overall view.dont get ripped off. get evrything on paper. great location though, shame about the scam.

Location, ambience, friendlines of the staff. Food quality was only fair although pleasingly presented and generous in amount and variety.

We have been to the Avalon Reef 5 times. We enjoyed it enough to buy into their "vacation club". We probably save about $200-$400 every time we go using our club membership. We can't wait for them to complete "Puerto Cancun" within the next 5 years. Six hotels, condos, marina and a golf course. It will be the biggest resort in Cancun. We have nothing but praise for the bar and restaurant staff! Breakfasts are varied and filing. The lunch buffet is poor, but if you order off the menu at the beach bar, the food is really good! The dinner buffet is weak. It's not Club Med, but you are not paying Club Med prices. It is improving! Make a reservation at the sit down restaurant, "Mi Casa Su Casa" and it's an excellent dinner with excellent service. Beers are cheap in the local "deli" 3 blocks away. How can you go wrong with a full alcohol package at $16 per day? We pay for the 7 breakfast and 3 dinner package @$119 per person. The rest of the time we go into town. People who knock this place have some legitimate gripes. There are no reading lamps in the tower hotel rooms. If you ask, you can get one ot two. We spent one night in the hotel because our reservation in our villa was Saturday to Saturday. Out hotel room had a new air conditioner and flat panel TV. Avalon is upgrading. These things take time! The water is as crystal clear as you will find anywhere. Mother nature took most of the beach...she and the Mexican government will bring it back. Don't complain about the small beach? 90% of the hotels on Cancun have no beach whatsoever! If you want "action", go somewhere else!

We booked at the Avalon and agreed to the all inclusive because it was only * more, but the food was HORRIBLE. We stayed in one of the villas and the view was amazing but the room while clean was not acceptable. We left after one night, and they were professional about us leaving (note that we did not prepay with a travel program though) it took 5 min. to find a MUCH nice hotel!!!! We went to Ixchel by the way - LOVED IT! With so many restaurants don't do all inclusive no mater how good of a deal you can get. I will also confirm that the beach is not nearly what it is online - not their fault there has been horrible beach errotion all over North Beach on the island - it's really sad actually.

The location of the hotel was very romantic. It sits on a small island and is accesable by a wooden bridge. The beach is private and resturants at the hotel very good. The staff also made sure that we were being taken care of. It is a secure location with security guards posts descretly.

The hotel portion is old and needs a make over as the standard room is no bigger than a Motel 6 room and the furnishings are lacking. If you upgrade to the Villas it is well worth it. $100.00USD took us to the next level for the four day trip. Although all the beds are very hard. The views from the villas are great in any room. Food is very good in the buffet and main restaurant. Booze selection is so-so. I recommend going to the restaurants in town a short walk away (very safe). The beach areas are fair but the water is fantastic. The island itself is very relaxing and the locals seem to enjoy the tourists. No beach barders!

The service was completely awesome...I felt like a queen for the whole week I stayed at Avalon Reef Club. The surrounding view of the hotel is breath taking! The only thing that could have been better is the bed comfort...but the view and just being in mexico made the comfort issues fade away! Really this is a very relaxing place to vacation!

The resort is beautiful, located on the north side very private beaches. The hotel staff is very accomodating, the only complaint we had was the bed was very hard. The resort is small which is perfect if you are looking for a restful relaxing vacation.

The front desk help was awful. The t.v. was broken in our room told front desk numerous times did nothing. The Lobby is very hot as well as the elevators. Breakfast was good, but lunch and dinner. yuk! The bellman were very helpful and kind. Did allinclusive not a good idea! Staff other than the bellman were not helpful. Its a shame because the beaches are beautiful.

This hotel was nothing like it appeared on the internet. There was not much of a beach to speak of, it was rocky and almost cut my feet open trying to get out to the water. I would not recomend this hotel to anyone. several of the people staying at the hotel were also dissapointed with the hotel. There were no personel trying to help with phone calls or any other type of issues. We had the red bracelets to eat breakfast. We did not eat breakfast one day. we lost our bracelets on Thursday and wanted to eat breakfast the next morning and we were told that we would need to pay 70.00 more dollars for the bracelets. To eat for two more days???? Others told us the food was nasty anyways. The bed was hard as a rock. The TV sucked. After we were there for 3 days, then they decidedd to call us and asked if there were some activities we wanted to do? One man cut his toe open on the pool tiles that were broken. I have nothing good to say about this experience. Next time we will stay in Cancun.

The resort presented just as was described in the positive reviews on this site. We did the breakfast only option and were very happy with that. The hotel is certainly close enough to walk to all the shops and restaurants in town. It was fun to meet others and try different food options. The hotel location is just fantastic!!! The snorkeling right out your door cannot be beat, the free bikes came in handy, and the staff was friendly. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.

The hotel is great but it is older and does show some wear. The service was wonderful and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is very good and if you want pancakes or eggs the cook makes them in front of you. We ate dinner and lunch in town, which is only a short walk from the hotel. Taxis are very inexpensive and will take you anywhere. These drivers are very knowledgable about the island and things to do. Why pay 45.00 a day for a golf cart when you can take a guided tour of the island for 18.00 in a cab. Out of the 8 nights at the Avalon only 1 time housekeeping didn't leave us a fresh bottled water. We tip and I think that makes a difference. We noticed alot of people don't leave tips. These people don't make alot of money and they are giving very good service. Leave a tip. If anything think about how you are getting the breakfast buffet every morning at no extra cost so leave a tip. Snorkle in Kings Bath and also around the bridge. Bring a baggy with some bread and watch all the fish you attract.

I booked a room at this resort for my honeymoon. Having stayed in cancun many times over the last 14 years I had high expectations. Upon crossing to the island we found another couple on their honeymoon and shared a cab to the hotel. Once we got to the room everything seems to slide downhill. To begin the reef pool, playground equipment, and other spots were taped off with no trespassing tape. The room was small, which I have no real issue with, however, the thermostat on the window AC unit was broken. The bed had springs pushing through and was so bad that after the first night my wife and I bought some pool floats to sleep on. To top that off there was never any hot water, and on occasion in the middle of the day you might get a luke warm shower. All inclusive package is sad compared to other hotels. They claim to have several restaurants, however, what they have is the pool bar and an indoor room right next to it with the same exact food, which was not remotely comparable to other resorts. I would have to say at the best this hotel is misrepresented by the pictures, and at the least its downright deceitful. I took pictures of the area just because of the huge contrast what is presented and what is really there. My opinion would be to pay a little more and stay in a cancun resort. I would urge anyone reading this and making a decision not to base it on the pictures because the resort no longer appears anything like them. This would also not be a good spot for children as there is no presentable beach.

Last year I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. This year they had no activities director, even though I participated in a few things it changed the atmosphere. Also, they had construction while i was there so for 12 nights, it was very loud starting at 9am. I would still go back because of the staff but complain earlier about the construction.

The beach had so much seaweed that they had to hire a couple dozen people to rake it and haul it away with dump trucks. Helped some but still couldn't walk through without beach shoes. I had to book ground transportation through hotel, which cost $26.00,each way, or spend $56.00 for Taxi. Well, no one there to pick us up, when I arrrived at hotel I told them what happened and they gave us a voucher for return trip to airport. Then I asked for a up-grade to a studio, which cost another $50.00 a night. Much better then the Tower Rooms.I know there are complaints about hard beds, but I didn't feel they were that bad.

hotel staff was not helpful with exchange rate,or money change and there was only 1 atm machine on the island back at the ferry, hotel desk told us thatany place on the island can charge any exchange rate. also housekeeping was differnet every day somedays they would leave coffee some days not, sometimes big towels sometimes only little, same with soap, shampoo, and bed was as hard as a rock, and they give you towel cards to get beach towels but they were ALWAYS OUT... Food was good and breakfast was free, the very best thing about the hotel was the wonderful food wait staff always friendly, helpful, courtesy, hats off to those guys. Hotel looks a lot nicer on the internet

We were looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. Isla Mujeres definately is the place for it! The hotel itself was very nice, however the beds are so hard, it was like sleeping on the floor. We stayed in the least expensive room, which was very stark. No table or nice chairs in the room, no bedside lamps to read by. We had a little trouble getting a room safe, the front desk ladies were not helpful at all, so we had to get a little firm, and then they were able to help us. Beyond that, the staff was great, the hotel and beaches were beautiful.
