everything was fine.. the staff and service was excellent. the river view was nice but trees blocked most of the view.

Uncomplicated, friendly helpful staff, location was attractive. Very complicated to find. They should put up signs at the last 3 turns. Dont charge for parking! I needed a quiet place in an attractive location to rest after a few days of intensive work. The hotel was perfect for that. I would have liked a view of the river.

The location by the river was very good. Without a car we felt a bit isolated until we found out how great the public transport was in Portland and how close it came to the Hotel - then we were fine.

We stayed at the Avalon last Spring and loved our room overlooking the river. The hotel is so contemporary and conveniently located to downtown, Lake Oswego, and close in east side of Portland...places we go when we are in Portland. This time we chose to take advantage of a lower rate for three consecutive days with "a view of the hills" instead. Unfortunately the view of the hills was just a few treetops seen over the top of the tall office building next to us. Since we had lots to do, we weren't in our room that much so the lack of a view and privacy was something we decided to overlook. Our first two nights were fine, but the last night a rowdy group was checked into the room right next to ours in the middle of the night (around 2 AM). They were swearing, talking loudly, banging into things as they entered their room, waking us from a sound and much needed sleep. When I called the front desk, they were very condoning of the noisy new guests and the only help they could offer us was if we wished to relocate to a quieter area in the hotel. They did say they would notify the new guests that there had been a complaint. I really felt as if the front desk clerk was not willing to do her job and insure guests who were already staying in the hotel be assured of a peaceful nights sleep. The woman in the next room talked loudly on her phone for quite awile after our call. We will probably not stay here again. Also the bathroom marble tile needs grouting and when you go out on the balcony, the door almost falls off.

This was a wonderful if brief stay. The spa provides use for hotel guests of the whirlpool and dry and wet sauna. I didn't try the spas services, but the gym was clean and up to date. Free wireless and great breakfast offerings on each floor!!!! Fresh coffee and ambiance delightful. Next time I would choose a room on the river side. Trails run all along here and cute wine/Italian restaurant next door. The wine was very pricey and they did not have chardonay, which I found strange. Overall a great place to stay, if a bit out of the loop of downtown Portland.

Beautiful surroundings, on the Williamette river, walking and bike trails directly in front of the hotel, a terrific quality gym with punching bags and yoga ( DELICIOUS restaurant adjacent called Aquariva- spicy fried risotto and caesar salad-and a fresh margarita with no fake and poisonous sweet and sour mix- to die for! Some organic, free range choices and very nice complimentary continental breakfast with yumy Illy coffee. The Bad: the hotel boasts its "green" policies- the biggest environmental problem is the overwhelming amount of fluorescent lighting- EVERYWHERE- I kept my hotel room lights off - the EMFs, the mercury exposure on the ground from broken bulbs, the inadequate color spectrum-was extremely disappointing, also disappointing was the "Free wi-fi" so that meant the entire hotel was being shot at with deadly and damaging microwaves 24 hours a day. The third green disappointment was the chlorine filled but beautiful whirlpools- I only went in once but was itching my skin and sneezing all night long. Lastly, the spa was outrageously priced and the help there was superficial and rude- The inharmonious way I was treated by the spa chakra staff left me making my own spa in my hotel bathtub! For instance, the spa closed at 9 and I arrived for the steam room at a little past 8:30- the woman gave me a fake smile and told me they were closed and to come back tomorrow..I give the Avalon 3 stars and will still go there again- I know any other hotel- "Green" or not will still offer fluorescent lighting, chlorine and wi-fi...I want something HEALTHY too... We wanted a nice relaxing stay... the phone dodnt work correctly, the tv sound did work as it should and the van driver didnt show up for work. Then to top it off the bussiness center had lost the internet conncetion. WE WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN...WE tried to call travel agency but received a busy signal. what a waste of money.

Hubbie and I decided to celebrate our anniversary in Portland. The room and the hotel was beautiful, but small. The view of the riverfront was to die for. The food and the drinks at Aquariva were excellant, especially during happy hour(It was less crowded so we get a loveseat facing each other by the river and the cost was low). The only complaints were the distance to the main downtown area and that one, only one out of about eight, of the hotel staff was a jerk and really rude.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Setting with excellent riverside path for walking or biking. Finding the Avalon the first time was very difficult. The street is mis-located on the on-line map we used, also on the Yellow Pages map of Portland. With a Portland map provided by the very-helpful front desk staff we had no difficulty navigating our way to and from this new area. But note: it's not downtown or even close. The rooms are beautifully decorated; ours had a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the bike path and river. A nice touch - a surprisingly complete continental breakfast served on each floor.

The Avalon was a great place for a relaxing getaway. The hotel staff was very accomodating and the view of the river from my room was beautiful. I'd likely return to the Avalon if I were ever in the area again.

Room was clean. Looks like they have done some updating. Staff was freindly. Continental breakfast was adequate and convenient (they have it set up on each floor so you can take it to your room). Parking was high (15 a night) and they didn't have enough. In the morning cars were parked on the sidewalks. The meeting room was great with a great view of the river. Food for our meetings was great (catered by the hotel). It's a little inconvenient getting to the hotel from downtown Portland if you don't know your way around, but they also offer a free shuttle to the downtown area.

The hotel was great but what I din't like is overnight parking fee of $20 which is too hight. The hotel is not even located in downtown area to charge such high rates.if you add up this cost ,assuming that every customer has a car.The overall rates shoots up.

Being right downtown is overrated. This was great. A nice and quiet place to retire to after driving (getting lost) all over Portland. The decor was contemporary and the room was very clean. The staff were extremely helpful. They even came up to our floor to help find the ice machine. I realized that I had left our jackets on the bed when checking out and they went up and got them for us.The restaurant is a little fancy schmancy for us and a little expensive, but the bar was a nice place to hang out for a little bit. It's right on the river and has great atmosphere. It would have been nice to have a refrigerator in the room.

THIS IS A HIGH CLASS PLACE TO STAY AND IT CAN BE A LITTLE INTIMIDATING, IF YOUR NOT USED TO PAYING SOMEONE TO GET YOUR OWN CAR AS THIS CAN GET A LITTLE COSTLY. AT THIS HOTEL YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY $19.00 A NIGHT TO PARK AND VALET ON TOP OF THIS. THIS FEATURE ADS TO THE COST OF YOUR STAY SO BEWARE AND BUDGET FOR IT. iF YOU LIKE VALET PARKING AND TIPPING A LOT THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. GREAT LOCATION, QUIET SPOT, QIUIET ROOMS, AND THE ROOMS ARE WELL WORTH THE NIGHTLY RATE. This is the first motel that I actually slept in the bed and not on an air bed on the floor. I have M. S. and a bad back yet I was very well rested. By the way other Moltels want $3100. a night to park and valet on top of this, so all things considered it was still a value. I would gladly stay again as now the shock of Valet handginitis has worn off. I guess its a way of pampering yourself? NOT! I WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY AND I AM NOT USE TO THE L. A. AVALON. I MIGHT FEEL DIFFERENTLY WHEN I GET MY GOLDEN PARACHUTE POPS OPEN. EH!! MOMEY TO BURN!!!

Friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was lacking. I had to request service at 3:30 in the day. Should have been done before noon. Upon check in, the staff was very polite and helpful. Everyone wanted to make sure my needs were met. Most 3 star and up hotels have a restaurant on the premises. This hotel had none and you had to walk to the closest one. For an area where it rains all the time, it was inconvenient.

I had been told that Portland was a real food town and I had plans to visit four different restaurants in town but I got in late the first night and just ran down to the hotel restaurant and I didn't want to eat anywhere else the whole time I was there. Incredible food, incredible view. The service was mostly great--I had one visit where it was a little slow. I'm still drooling a little over the "Eggs Avalon" from yesterday's brunch which was basically eggs benedict with smoked trout instead of bacon. I've never tasted a hollandaise sauce so perfect. I've never vacationed in Portland, the weather is too much like staying home for me but I'm planning to return now.

I am a pt. at OHSU, great location to get there/ tram is very close by...my biggest concern staying there was when I slide the TV out of the dresser, the dresser tipped forward....very dangerous, especially if a child were to climb up on it. Also the staff were all very nice and helpful.
