This was the best family friendly room we found in Europe. Usually we had to squeeze in with an extra bed or find two rooms per hotel. We had a two room suite with a nice bath and large rooms. The restaurants in the hotel and across the street are excellent. The location is perfect for walking the two primary districts. It was hot in July with no air conditioning, but the hotel supplied fans. The Austria Classic Central Gablerbrau Hotel Salzburg was once one of the few hotels that brewed their own beer many, many years ago. Breatfast was better than most we found during our 6 country tour. We recommend the short 1 or 1.5 hour diving tours from the local tour companies because while everyone else signs up for a big bus tour you can get a more personal tour in a van to see what you wish to return to more quickly. Our van tour allowed us to get off at the 'wasserspiele' (water gardens, good family activity) and bus back on our Salzburg pass - which is a good deal.

The hotel has a quaint charm to it and was very comfortable. Our triple room was huge overlooking the side street. Lighting was a bit dim but who wants to spend time indoors in a place like Salzburg! The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and also very helpful in guiding us to places to see and eat. Kids really enjoyed the old-world feel of the place... and the delicious breakfast spread ofcourse! Would definitely recommend it.

Stayed here for August Bank Holiday week-end 2008. Clean and friendly, excellent breakfast, and food in main restaurant was good too. It is very conveniently situated for everything you might want to do in Salzburg, and would recommend as such.

Hotel is old, but has great character. Ask for an end of corridor room. We got one and its quiter. The location is superb, all the sights are within walking distance of the Hotel. Complimentary drink on arrival is a very nice touch. Breakfasts were plentiful. Hot bacon & eggs, and then breads, cereals, cheese and ham etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Number 2 bus from Airport to Mirabell Platz takes about 25 minutes, hotel is then a 5 minute walk. We bought the 3 day Salzburg Card for 37 euro, and used it for attractions and transport that would have cost over 80 euro. Buy at bookstore in airport. Great system, great place.

This is a lovely hotel located in a charming neighborhood. My sixteen year old son and I stayed here as part of a five week holiday in Europe. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was a treat. The abundance of choices in the breakfast buffet was wonderful. I would highly recommend the restaurant. When we decided to stay an extra night they accomodated us without a change of room. I can't say enough about the service, food and staff friendliness. Will return here in future.

The only problem was that they (the city of salzburg i suppose)cleaned the streets and picked up garbage and such late at night or early in the morning every day whitch was disturbing.

The staff was very helpful, quick to respond to any request. They were kind enough to permit us to keep our things in our room after the regular check out time to accommodate our sightseeing and travel schedule. That was very generous.

i picked the Austria Classic Central Gablerbrau Hotel Salzburg for my parents to celebrate 40 years married, they loved it, said staff were very friendly, rooms spacious and clean, bit noisy if windows opened. they are not lovers of heating and was a bit warm for them but it is winter after all. the staff were lovely, hotel restaurant was very nice indeed, breakfast was both cooked/continental and could not fault food or service. overall a very memorable holiday for them both, which i was thrilled to hear as i had booked this hotel.

We have just spent 4 days at this historic hotel and had a wonderful time. Our clean and well furnished L-shaped room (a triple) on the 4th floor overlooking the Christmas decorated street, was huge and had a king sized bed and a very comfortable full sized double sofabed which was made up for our daily use. There was loads of wardrobe space, a table, easy chairs and the most comfortable armchair ever to match the sofa. The bathroom was very large and modern with plenty of towels which were changed regularly. The room was lovely and warm and also had a TV, writing desk and an entrance hall with further storage. There was three double glazed windows which could be opened to look out onto the street below. The floors creaked a bit but as we were on the top floor we weren't bothered by it. The building seemed very solid so maybe it is well soundproofed. The bedrooms were modern but the rest of the hotel was in keeping with it's age and had some protected public rooms. We ate in one of the old restaurants on the first night and the meal was very good. Apart from one humourless receptionist (maybe she was having a bad day) the rest of the staff, including the other reception staff, were friendly and helpful. A nice touch was a free welcome drink for all guests. Breakfasts were great, plentiful and well presented in a pleasant restaurant. The best thing about the Austria Classic Central Gablerbrau Hotel Salzburg is the location. It's in a narrow old lane (Linzergasse) close to the Mirabell gardens (Sound of Music), shops and restaurants, and just a few steps from the river and bridge across to the Cathedral, Mozart's birth place, one of the best shopping streets in Austria, the Christmas market and funicular railway to the fortress etc. Everything is within a 5-10 minute walk. The only small gripes are the lack of a printer to go with the somewhat old computer for internet access in the reception area, and tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms, which is perhaps not a continental thin

We booked very short-term at a time when Salzburg is full of tourists (all 4 weekends before Xmas). That is why we paid a rather high fee for the hotel. Its location was wonderful - we could walk to all important sites. The room was ok, rather old-fashioned furniture, but a quite spacious bathroom. Nice gesture: they offered us a welcome drink.

Although a single occupant I was allocated a large double room on the quieter side of the building. As the rooms are not airconditioned with a window open overnight the early morning banging of the garbage collection is unavoidable. I was on holiday and the hotel had much information on tours, concerts, etc and were most helpful with a booking for a dinner/concert. The hotel is very conveniently located with a very short stroll to the river and the old town and to Mirabell Gardens, Mozart's House and other main attractions.

I think the facility is not 4 star but 3 star. There were no comfortable chairs to sit in to watch TV or to read. The TV had bad picture and seemed to be an old TV with minimal choice of channels to view. There was no clock radio in the room. The bolted/fixed safe in the room did not work,- but a portable safe was placed in the room. The breakfast provided was very good with much choice. The restaurant provided very good food also and was convenient. The hotel's location is central and easy to access old town within minutes.
