great location very central, very clean rooms, good breakfast

The Atlantic Tower by Thistle was a great surprise in that it really feels like you are in a ship and, if you are lucky enough, has a nice view of the river and the 'spooky' looking church and Customs Building. The room was very comfortable. The ONLY problem was with the Restaurant ... and at that may not be a real 'problem'. When we entered the restaurant for a late snadk the person greeting us would NOT let us enter the restaurant without first going to the bar first. There they took our names and we waited (after buying a drink) until our names were called. When we got to the restaurant itself, the feeling was that it was old (but not classily old) and somewhat not so clean. The menu was very restricted and the food was decidedly unremarkable. All that being said, we would still stay in this hotel again.

POSITIVES - My view was excellent (from the 10th floor), and the location was good.NEGATIVES - The hotel is very dated and in dire need of renovation. The rooms are very small and give you a feeling of uncleanliness. The hotel staff is extremely cold. The breakfast is mediocre at best. At one point, I asked one of the cleaning staff members for some clean towels, and to my horror, she took towels that appeared to be quite fresh and laid them on the floor in the hallway as she grabbed hand and face tools to stack on top of them.IN SUMMARY, I have stayed in hundreds of hotels a wide range of hotels all over the world, and this one ranks as one of the five worst I can remember.

Good service - rooms need more work to upgrade sanitary areas- not great

Wow what a view from the ThistleThe staff were extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the reception on entrance was very presentable. I asked for a room on a higher floor for the view - fabulous. The reception recommended an italian and booked taxi and both were perfect. We parked in the carpark prior to the entrance, paid for it at Reception to discover it was for the wrong car park and had to pay again ?

Excellent HotelThis was an excellent hotel, in an ideal central location. We had a view over the Mersey and the Liver Buildings. The room was well equipt, with a large flatscreen TV with satallite. The bed was comfortable and spacious. The tea/coffee tray needed more milk but besides that great. Breakfast was full english and good value. There is a carpark which has a small charge. I would definately stay here again. We wanted to book another night but there were no vacancies. As a service improvement the hotel could take contact details and advise on any cancellations. This service is available at the Crown Plaza.

Nice rooms, breakfast a big let down, definitely not equivalent to 4 star breakfast. Dining room needs refurbishing. Good location, we had one of the refurbished rooms on floor 3, key fobs difficult to use, had to swipe many times! Got late deal on laterooms so good value.

Excellent experienceWe booked this hotel for my son's graduation - very good in all respects, rooms very well maintained, asked for rooms to be near lift which they were - fantastic value for money and staff couldn't do enough to help.

Great stayI never normally bother with writing reviews but always read them so thought I'd pull my finger out! The Atlantic Thistle Hotel is a fantastic hotel in a fantastic location. The view from our room wasn't brilliant but you're not going to get a great view every time. Our friends room, however, did have a fantastic view over the docks and at the Liver building. The staff were very helpful and professional and I would not hesitate staying here again and really can recommend it. The only thing I would say is don't trust your TomTom to get you there, it doesn't like the one way systems! If you want to stay near the centre in a nice location with pleasent staff and surroundings The Atlantic Thistle is your place.

Saturday nightRoom was a bit disappointing after staying the previous night in Macdonald Hotel in Manchester, which was just fabulous and at the same price, it was no comparison! Located near the city centre, had a room in the back which was nice as I believe the front rooms can get a bit busy with the traffick outside the hotel. Very nice bar terrace with a view over Mersey. Not enough pillows on bed!!! Also very busy with hen/stag nights so if you are looking for a quiet hotel, this is not it!

Upgraded! My comments will be a little biased as i booked a twin/double room and ended up with a top floor suite! As you can expect the cleanliness and quality of the room were excellent. However on arrival i was running very late for a football match and found the reception staff very helpful in booking us in quickly and arranging a taxi for us. Not rocket science, but helped me greatly.

Excellent, Great value for money We booked last thing for a night out through late rooms, once i booked i read the reviews and i was a bit concearned, but ignore the negative comments.Friendly, clean,Great position,Great views and quiet.Only grumle is the NCP Parking charges £12.00 overnight,( but i understand it a city centre and this cost is nothing at all to do with the Hotel )
