The description of the Waimea Plantation Cottages on the Orbitz site was perfect. We wanted an individual, private cottage located in a complex with large grassy expanses and on the ocean with a sandy beach. We got it! The staff was always friendly and even upgraded our stay at no charge to an ocean view cottage. The vegetation is so lush that each cottage feels very private. There were NO glaring lights at night anywhere. We could see the stars as clearly as if we had been out in the middle of the ocean. The only sounds were the ocean waves, the wind in the palms, and in the mornings the warbling of the myna birds. We liked that we were close to the town of Waimea, but not in it, close to Salt Pond Park, and also not far from Port Allen, where we boarded our dinner cruise tour of the NaPili coast. Unfortunately, we both came down with horrible colds our 2nd night and didn't feel like doing much the whole week we were there... which turned out to be not a bad thing. Our King size bed was VERY comfortable and the bedroom was large and had a view to the ocean also. The bathroom was enormous. Loved the oversized shower and separate cast iron tub. Since returning, we have talked with 3 other couples that have stayed at the Cottages years earlier and also had fond memories of it. We toured the rest of the island but didn't find any other place we'd rather be.

Extremely charming with thoughtful touches, but tasteful. A wonderful place, with hammocks by the beach and firepits. Each charming cottage has its own grill and patio area. Beautiful and well-maintained.

Do you enjoy listening to drunk people yell into the late night hours, or waking up at 6:00 AM to the sound of roosters, or dining at a restaurant that smells like a frat house on Sunday morning, with cats that were used for cat fighting and now have broken tails, or not having air conditioning, or having see thru blinds in your dilapidated bathroom, or being infested by bugs, or listen to sprinklers run 24/7? If so then this is the place for you!!

These cottages are in a spacious plantation setting. It is not the place for people seeking the usual resort-hotel amenities. The beach is not suitable for swimming and the sand is black. The only restaurant on-site is a brew pub. On the other hand, the cottages are comfy with full kitchen facitities, and there lanais and hammocks in the trees for just lazing around. One needs a car here, to get to the place, to go shopping, and to visit Walmea Canyon and other beaches. There is cable TV and wireless internet (the latter on the porch of the main building).

Simple elegance of the cottages, quiet, semi-rural setting, HI Moas (chickens) and kitties roaming the grounds. There was nothing I did not like. If you want a quiet stay in simple, elegant surroundings in a beautiful place, this is the absolute best you can do. Waimea canyon is the spectacular Grand Canyon of the Pacific, and the cottages are located right at the entrance to the canyon drive. The cottages themselves are 1950s-style, with wide-planked, wooden floors, lots of windows and wide, gracious porches overlooking the park like courtyard. Baths and kitchens are simple and functional. Cottages are roomy (mine slept 6), and appointed with simple furnishings. You will feel more like you are staying at your aunt's cottage than at a commercially-run hotel. This place is rural, on the edge of a sleepy town. The colorful, feral Hawaiian chickens (Moa), and a small collection of kitties wander the premises. The beach is black sand, good for a walk but a little murky for a swim. The (life guarded) swimming beach is a short drive (3 miles?) away. The restaurant on premises is a brew pub, with a reasonably-priced menu, featuring burgers, ribs and chicken dishes. One evening a week, the local native band plays traditional Hawaiian music.

We came here for our 25th anniversay. We debated on where to stay on the island. After much thought we made the right decision on staying at the cottages. I would recommend it to anyone. This place is for the person that just wants to get away from it all. The grounds are well kept & the cottages are very quaint, right out of a storybook. The sights & sounds of nature abound here. We would DEFINETLY stay here again. Relax & enjoy..... No worries!!!!!

We were impressed with the cottage - the privacy, spaciousness of the home and the setting. Reminded me of my childhood days spending our summers with our grandparents, aunts and uncles in Makaweli. The cottage looked very similar to our grandparents but with the modern amenities which we could not live without. Very calm and relaxing and a great place to 'get away' and rest away from our normal busy life on the mainland. We enjoyed it so much and are thinking of returning next year - maybe for a planned family get-together.

Setting and condo. Perfect place in beautiful setting. Tasteful cottages - a great escape from Big Islands concrete castles.

This hotel was quite and away from the crowds. The cottages are adorable - worth the extra to stay closer to the ocean. You will wake up every morning to the sound of ocean and roosters. Cute clean pool. Beautiful black sand beach but not a beach you can safely swim at.Tips - if you plan to arrive after 8pm make sure to call ahead and confirm your reservation and let them know of your late arrival - the office does close. Also if you plan to arrive late - be sure to pick up some supplies in Lihue as not much is open after 9pm on this side of the island

A resort with large accomadating rooms. Freindly staff and redident kitty cats... Maid service is not on a daily basis but more of an every other day sechedule. It worked out well. Would love to go back.

Really liked the old cottage living, good kitchenette, comfortable furniture and beds. Beautiful gardens, a good pool and secluded black sand beach. Liked seeing all the chickens but did not enjoy their cock-a-doodle doos in the early mornings but in retrospect it added to the country feel. The cottages were clean, finished well, and the staff was professional. Great quiet getaway.

We thought that we were buying cheap when we originally reserved this room, but we were blown away when we got there after our wedding. We didn't get in till around 11, were greeted at the front door with huge smiles (make sure to call ahead for late departures) and notified that they had upgraded us to the 'honeymoon suite.' Our room had a driftwood wall, where we could record our names & dates of stay. We absolutely loved it. Thanks JOE!!

The location is out of the way, but great access to the Waimea Canyon. No internet available in the rooms was difficult to deal with for work reasons. But the surroundings and comfort of your own four walls is priceless. It is very family friendly with plenty of room for large groups. Great views, immaculate grounds. No jacuzzi only a pool, but a pool with an oceanside view. Limited food choices nearby. We had several salamanders in our room, but they were friendly and ate any other bugs, besides I hear that is the norm for Kauai. We had a blast and would definitely go back again!

Very serene, great atmosphere & nature, plus seclusion from reality. No maid service unless specifically requested (then only towels) The plantation cottages are an excellent choice for nature lovers. The cabins are clean and stocked with utensils and even a BBQ, if you choose to use this. The place is charming. We were woken every morning by roosters, which freely roamed the plantation grounds. These grounds have been beautifully taken care of, and include many different and unique types of vegetation, from palm trees to gigantic banyan trees. The remoteness of the place makes it perfect for those wanting to get away from it all. The only negative I have is that there was no maid service until I went to the front desk on my third day to request this, and then I was only given towels. Also, the beds are a little lumpy and not that comfortable. Otherwise, GREAT place to stay.

The Plantation Cottages are AWESOME! I can't say enough good things about this place...and I am sometimes hard to please. I arrived on the island late and I had been informed that the front desk staff would be there until 10 p.m. I ended up arriving closer to 11 p.m. I thought how will I find this place in the dark? It was lit up beautifully with tiki torches. The sign on the door said to call security to check in and when I did he said he would be right there. I hung up the phone and the door opened! I got to my room and found a beautiful flower arrangement...my boyfriend worked with the front desk and they took care of everything. Awesome! They had bottled water and coffee in the room for me and a nice little collection of shampoo and bubble bath items. The ground of this place are breathtaking. I loved lounging in their hammocks on the property. The cleaning staff was only supposed to come once while I was here but they came twice and did a fantastic job. The Hartfelt Day Spa was EXCELLENT! You must try one of their massage packages...I have gone to spas all over the world and this place was the ultimate in relaxation. The Brewery was fabulous. I think I had the best lunch of my entire life with their pork sandwhich and homemade brew. FABULOUS. LOVE IT!!!!

The ResortQuest Waimea Plantation Cottages is a great place to stay if you want to do almost absolutely nothing. It was probably the most relaxing vacation I've had in years. And was just perfect for a honeymoon.

The Waimea plantation cottages made our honeymoon a memorable and wonderful trip. The cottages are nice and private. They were incredibly clean and the sheets were especially nice --- great quality and thread count. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, dishes, etc. so we could make a few meals and save some money. The staff was really helpful and made great recommedations on the island. Take plenty of film as you'll want to take lots of pictures of the amazing banyan trees on the property... The hammocks on the beach were so relaxing and a favorite part of the trip. The beach isn't swimmable (neither is much of the island) but it was awesome for a morning walk or a stroll at night. Beautiful beaches were less than 10 minutes away. We loved Polihale, and Ke'e on the north shore, but the canyon near the cottages is a must see and truly comparable to the Grand Canyon. Overall, the place was comfortable. No air conditioning, which was a concern at first, until we realized we didn't need it. The cottages have plenty of windows and a fresh ocean breeze was wonderful. There were some nice restaurants nearby and a grocery store right down the street -- very convenient. We plan on coming back next year.
