The hotel was OK for a budget option. Kihei is a nice location for those who are planning on traveling all over the island, with fairly easy access to everywhere from Ka'anapali to Haleakala. The rooms are dark, even with the curtains open during the day, and look due for a renovation. There also appear to be a number of unoccupied/unmaintained buildings on the property. The in-wall air conditioner was noisy when the compressor kicked in throughout the night. Wi-fi was only available at the front desk, but was free. There are a couple of "private" coves on the property which are nice for lounging when they're not occupied by locals fishing. Aston also gives a coupon book to guests which saved us at least $50 throughout the trip. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to budget-conscious travelers who aren't looking for all the amenities of a resort.

Great location and wonderful ocean view. It was wearing out and needed a little updating. We have stayed twice now at this hotel and the location and ocean view are priceless. The staff are very friendly and respond immediately to your needs.

They need more lounge chairs at their beach area, but everything else was great! The views were amazing and the staff were very helpful.

Older hotel but very convenient to Kihei and close to beaches. It's old but my room was very clean and it was quiet. The pool is absolultely HUGE but not heated, but coming from CO. it seemed great to me. There was never anyone in the pool; I had it all to myself every time I went. I would definitely stay again because it was very beautiful and quiet. The best value I found for the money. I was rarely there anyway. Internet service avail. too, and very helpful travel/tourism lady onsite to book activities for you at no charge.

I have been to Maui several times. I don't go there to stay in my room all day. We just needed a clean and safe place to sleep at night and take a shower. The Maui Lu more than lived up to those expectations. First of all, the grounds are absolutely spectacular - very old world Hawaii. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Yes, the rooms were older and a little run down but in no way were they dirty or unsafe. The beds were comfortable and clean and it was great to have the refrigerator in our room. The pool is beautiful if a little old school and it is kept sparkling clean every day. The little private beach cove is magnificent and the kids would go out and swim there every night. I cannot stress enough how beautiful and quiet the grounds are here and I cannot wait to get back. If you enjoy the noise, hustle, bustle and crowds of the fancy large resorts then this is not the place for you. If you ARE looking for beauty, quiet, charm and friendliness then go to the Maui Lu!

I liked the staff and room. Very friendly and clean. I wish there were kitchen in the rooms and bigger refrigaters. But or all a good and safe stay.

It was a big room. It was very old and not updated. The room had a little smell, it was clean. But everything was really old and kind of grungy looking. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space

The room was okay. We have visited this hotel twice before and never had an issue, but this time was different. We asked for maid service once in the 6 days/ 5 nights we stayed there. After receiving maid service we had to go to the front desk to ask for more soap. One bar of hotel size soap is not sufficient for 2 adults... Anyway, there was a wine cork from some elses stay on the floor, birds chirping above us in the rafters, and the apperance of the room was dirty. We are very disenchanted this visit and will not be back. The hotel has gone downhill quickly, we find it to be sad due to the fact our other visits were nice, and we enjoyed our stays.

This location was good maybe because it was the low season when I was there. There werent a lot of guests especially ocean fron like my rental. The matresses are firm, pillow are flat but maybe some people like it. The grounds were clean, parking is difficult at the ocean front rentals because of limited space. Not noisy, I would call the decor 1970's ish, could use updating.

The price is right (with Price line). Needs serious maintenance. It is old, and tired, but for the price is a steal. Always on the verge of being sold, and leveled, so they aren't wasting money on upgrading facilities. Tennis court no longer exists, but who cares? Quiet, away from traffic, but pretty grounds (trees, flowers, birds, etc.)

Very nice place, by the ocean. The bedding looked a little old and itchy. Other than that it's a great place for the price. Very curtious service and easy access to the beaches, local town, bars etc.

This was the worst place I have ever seen or heard. Unbelievable they call it a resort and that online travel website would even have this on their site. Pool was unswimable- rooms dirty and old. I wish I could post the photos that I have.

The Maui Lu was an older property. The carpets seemed old and unclean as was the bathtub in the room I stayed. The tub had glue from the non slip strips still in the tub and were not removed. It made the tub look like it was unclean. The property was manicured to a "T" and the staff was really friendly. I would repeat.

Dont be fooled by ratings because when we booked our rooms the rating on this hotel was three stars and when we arrived it looked old, nasty and is in dire need of an update. When i talked to a manager about this three star hotel and complained that there is no way im staying in this run down hotel, convenietly the hotel rating had dropped to a one star. This hotel may not even deserve that. Beings we had paid previously through a online travel website and i had talked to them for over an hour this hotel wouldnt give our money back for us to go to an actual three star hotel like id booked. So we were stuck here for a week. The beds were uncomfortable, the shower upon arriving had hair in it.The pillows smelled as if they had been urinated on.We bought a can of lysol to spray every night on the pillows just so we could try to sleep. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We talked to some locals they had informed us that this hotel was to be bulldozed.Just another reason why you need to print off hotel pages when you book them so you can show hotels what there ratings are online when they get changed after arriving.

I enjoyed my stay here. It certainly isn't a luxury hotel, but it was away from the hustle of bustle of Kahului. The staff there was great and I really appreciated the golf cart ride from my car in the parking lot to my room. We arrived very late on our first night and he was very kind and courteous. We spent part of the 2nd day in the pool and that was fun as well. Overall, I would say that I had a great experience here and I would definitely stay again.
