This hotel is right on the beach, and is also located close to shopping and other amenities. It is very clean, in great condition and the staff is friendly and helpful. Our kids loved the beautiful pool. The staff even helped us with a late checkout for a red-eye flight home. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Friendly & helpful staff. Room had a musty smell. Hotel appears to have re-opened after being temporarily closed. Room had musty odor - like it need to be aired out for a while.

We loved this location. We stayed here one night and hated to leave. While there we enjoyed the Hawaiian music at the bar which could also be enjoyed in our room. At pool side, I took advantage of a 20 minute massage offered in a massage chair near the pool. I like the high speed internet in the room as well as the comfortable beds and pillows. Plus we had 2 free cups of coffee in the morning from the coffee bar. Great job everyone!

The large hotel was only half occupied when we stayed there from Dec. 23 through Dec. 29, 2008, which meant we got a lot of attention from the friendly service staff. The rooms were large, clean, well furnished and comfortable, with our tiny balconies giving us a glimpse of the ocean. The beach right in front of the hotel is not for swimming, but pretty nice for walking and hanging out. We didn't use the pool, but the hot tub served us well on several nights. We liked the walking distance to shops and restaurants in town.

A very nice hotel, close to the ocean with great views. We thought the price was fair until we arrived and found out there was a mandatory 12.00 per night additional fee for "free" valet parking, "free" internet, and other "free" services we did not intend to use. We wish that this would have been disclosed before booking the hotel.

I just visited Kauai Beach at Makaiwa for four days on a getaway by myself! everything was clean and the resort was small enough where I felt comfortable and safe. The beach in front of the hotel is great, can't swim in the water due to rocks, but can at least go in up to waist.... I pulled out a pool chair to the sand every day and just laid on the beach listening to the water. it was walking distance to Coconut Marketplace - which included Trees (a great lounge with live music every night), Tradewinds ( a bar with DJ ), some great food stands, hawaiian shaved ice, Lappert's ice cream and a bunch of tourist shops. a few blocks farther and you hit the BEST sushi on the island (Kintaro!!) also a few blocks from Safeway - helpful and convenient, there was a fridge in the hotel room too! I was able to walk to Wailua Beach and Lydgate State Park (about 20-25 minute walk, found my way by asking the activities desk lady! The staff was so friendly and so accomodating! Also, my flight didn't leave until 9pm at night and I was able to leave my bags with the belldesk all day, and then sign up to use a complimentary room to show and get ready for my flight! great price, great service, great location... I would definitely stay here again!

Hotel was very nice, rooms clean and staff was great. Concierge very helpful. Outdoor pool was cold and whirlpool hot tub was out of service for 4 days. Ocean swimming is out due to lava rock at waters edge. Hotel is very convenient to public transit, shopping (souvenir shops, Foodland, Longs Drugs, Safeway) and fast food (McDonalds, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Panda Express, Pizza Hut, etc.) There is a $12 per day Hotel Fee that covers internet access, daily paper, exercise room, beach towels, etc. Late checkout (1pm) is available upon request. All in all a good experience.

Overall, we were very pleased, and will stay there again in the future. On to the details: beautiful setting; central location w/adequate parking; well-appointed, clean room w/nice lanai; & friendly staff. However, the A/C was too loud, there was no fan in the bathroom, the concierges were sometimes too young and inexperienced (and therefore lacked sophisticated palates, leading to poor restaurant recommendations), the breakfast buffet was too limited and expensive, and the fitness room had only cardio machines - no resistance stuff of any kind.

Great location, friendly staff, they provided for every need -- I wanted something on the less expensive side and simple and this was the place.

Proximity to our week's activities and convenience to airport. Very poor pool side maintenance, very old furnishings and roaring air conditioner. The Aston is located convenient to your arrival on Kauai, a friendly staff and large and well appointed guest rooms.

We just got back from staying 5 days at this Resort Quest . Its a lovely place right on the beach and has a pool overlooking the ocean. It's just a 10 minute drive north of the airport and close to many shops and restaurants including snorkel Bobs . There is a grocery store 1/4 mile north on the opposite side of the road and the folks in that store are very nice and friendly, unlike our experience with the Safeway store a bit further down the road. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The resturant was amazingly good and may have served the best dinners that we found on all of the islands (in the mid price range). The waitress in the lounge brought me a huge bag of ice for my sunburn while we watched a football game..The room was clean, roomy and very nice for the price. The bed was OK, ,not as firm as I prefer.but sleepable. Our room overlooked the pool with an ocean view. Our room had very nice dark wooden plantation shutters on all windows. Overall, we had a relaxing, quiet time at this hotel and cant wait to go back! Things we would do differently: attend the 8 am Island information meeting that the hotel holds each morning next to the lobby. Attend the luau which I hear is one of the best in Hawaii. WEAR MORE SUNSCREEN and reapply it often!

This trip we rented a room from a private owner at the hotel. But we have stayed at the hotel 2 time before and have always been very satisfied with everything. They are very close to the coconut market place and will soon have a resturant open.

We walked down the beach to the Bull Shed restaurant which we also enjoyed 25 years ago when we were married in Kauai. This restaurant serves a 3-inch, 1-lb. prime rib which is excellent and is enough for 2 people with leftovers.

great location. you can't swim on the beach because it is too rocky but you need a car in Kauai anyway and there are beaches everywhere. We got ungraded to a beautiful room. We loved the small size of the hotel but it still had a concierge, exercise room, pool and restaurant. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel met and exceeded our expectations. The price is very low given the convenient location and oceanfront views. There is no charge for parking, the pre-luau happens outside your window most afternoons and the bartenders are friendly. This was close proximity to many restaurants and allowed a good starting place for both north and south shore destinations. There are nicer hotels on the island, but not for the price. One drawback is that the sheets are only changed every third night. We did also find two roaches in our room, but they're natural in this environment. The fourth floor rooms have nice vaulted ceilings, dark wood, and decent beds. The lanais are super small, but it's still worked for sunrise coffee.

The hotel and staff were great. The food was okay, but the service in the dining room was terrible, waited forever just to be served! The dining staff were really nice, there was not many people dining the two days we were there, and there should not be any reason for service to be that slow unless they were super busy!We probaly will go back to the resort some day, but will never eat there again until they get more help!
