since the hotel is conveniently located in the middle, we spent one day to go north and visit everything Kauai has to offer on the north side, and the next day we drove towards west and visited everything else.

Close to beach, easy to get to. Absolutely filthy windows, ocean view but couldn't see. The location was good and pool itself was pretty. Close to nice beach. Could tell hotel was in the middle of or had recently changed owners. The grounds were poorly kept, many weeds, ponds were filthy with no fish. The rooms themselves were nice and clean, but the outside of the hotel, hallways, pool area, etc were very unkept. This hotel would be amazing with a little tlc. It fit our needs for one night, but doubt I'd spend a week here. Close to airport.

It is centrally located. Rooms are very out dated but clean. The popcorn ceiling in our first room was coming off and falling on the floor. The bed springs were poking our back. The class sliding doors were filthy and tough to open. The front desk was friendly and changed our room with marginally better bed and no falling ceiling. However, because of its old design (early 70?s), rooms are spacious. Make sure you rent a car because the hotel dinning is expensive and dreadful. The dinning room was always empty; usually not a good sign. Good location, friendly staff, outdated rooms (some falling apart). I won't comeback until this place goes through a major renovation. For few extra $$ you can get a better deal.

I highly recommend getting a room with a view-- well worth it as the sunrises over the ocean were beautiful. Overall, the hotel was clean, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. However, I should have listened to some of the other reviews: avoid eating in the restaurant as the quality was terrible and way overpriced. There are plenty of decent restaurants in Kapa'a, including the Thai restaurant, The King and I.

Very good! This wasn't a top of the line luxury hotel, but a very good value. Rooms were spacious and clean, staff was friendly and helpful, and grounds and location were excellent. There were only three minor shortcomings: [1] wireless internet available in lobby but charged for room, [2] fitness center was moderately adequate but needs improvement [i.e. antequated weight machine and one treadmill broken], and [3] hotel dining was limited and rather expensive [however, there were many local options]. All things considered, I highly recommend this hotel.

Great staff, beautiful grounds, family friendly. Shower stall is small and outdated. Pleasantly surprised, we saw 2 starat a cheap price and pulled up to a beautiful hotel. We thought we were in the wrong place, how could this beautiful hotel be so affordable? The staff is so friendly and accommodating. A definite must stay on our next trip.

Good location. Hotel being renovated. Not all services available. Renovations not complete. Bathroom problems... toilet flush... towel rack fell off. Maintenance was prompt to fix problems. Pool bar and snacks closed. Pool towels small. Nice TV's. Poor Wi-Fi hot spots. Restaurant not in complete operation. Quality of food below expectations. In spite of this, the stay was pleasant. The staff was helpful. The pools fine. Location very nice.

We used this resort for a night after travel. Our permanent resort was on the other side of the island. After the long flight, it was nice to have a room nearby. The Lyndgate park has a long path to walk along the beach as well as a protected swimming hole. Also, there are 2 pools so if there are kids in the big pool, try the quieter garden pool. After a good night's sleep, our drive to the other side of the island was much more enjoyable. We would stay there again.

Unexpectedly close to the ocean, great pool and access to great/safe beach. It looked like they were just in the middle of upgrading the facilities, could use a little work. The hotel lobby has a great feel. It's some what isolated considering it's in Kapaa (just on the outskirts). It's next to Lydgate park which has a great area to swim and snorkel for kids/families/beginners. Was surprised by how close we were to the water. Pool was nice, considering the rating, and there was a snack/cocktail bar which is always nice to have while at the pool.

We stayed in a cottage the last week of August, 2008. The cottage was pleasant, but I killed several roaches and lots of ants. Also there was a friendly lizard inside when we arrived. A man in another cottage had a lizard fall from the ceiling onto his open wallet. The entrance door did not seal completely as light could be seen under the door when it was closed, so I suspect that is how the varmints entered. Also, be sure to clean the cups and plates yourself as one of the coffee cups I had used one day still had lipstick on it the next. Two of the five "support" posts for the overhang on the back of the cottage patio did not touch the ground because the underlying metal was corroded. Our friends cottage was okay and had a concrete support under each support. Since, the place is still being renovated, the problem in our cottage may be corrected soon. In spite of the above problems, we had a nice stay. I think the hotel will be just fine after some improvements.

In my 20+ years of business stays at usually reliable Sheraton properties, our stay at the Kauai Sheraton was more akin to a poor Super 8, at super expensive rates. Small room; clogged sink ...); broken tub flange and dated, hard-to-operate shower knob; broken refrig; out-dated room service menu resulting in suprise and expensive meal (for which we were, in fact, given credit when we mentioned it at check-out). Our stay was short - and over Memorial Day weekend. We were surprised there weren't any lifeguards at ocean-side (esp. with the number of families w/ children); our Garden area pool facilities were closed; there seemed a lack of staff to help us navigate a pretty sprawling and confusing property. Trying to secure a king sized bed was an effort taking 6 tries over a month (and I'm a Starwood Preferred Member...!). Everything - from ordering a drink to finding out how to obtain a beach towel - at this property had a process. If you have the time, don't mind schlepping around alot, and don't really care about the little things, this might be worth booking. The beach is beautiful, altho partly coral so not all the beach seen in photos is swimmable. Pools are shallow and small - really for kids. Dining closes early - but be sure to book a reservation at The Beach House restaurant down the road from Sheraton - truly a treasure.

I don't know how this place got rated so high by some travelers. This place is no better than a Motel 6 in terms of cleanliness and decor. The hallways were filled with trash and dirt. We stayed for 3 days and the same trash and dirt were in the hallway. The first room that we got was horrible, the shower head was coming off, the beds were old and smelly. Worst than some of the 1 star inn that I stayed in college. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially those travelling with young kids.

It was right on the beach with a beautiful sunset. The room was a little small but not too bad. It was very beautiful and clean.

Lobby is lovely the way it's open on three sides. Room was clean and bed comfortable enough. Furniture arrangement and draperies made it impossible for two people to sit and view the ocean at the same time. No balcony or small table in room. Patio door wasn't clear enough to see out of, probably pitted by weather more than just dirty. No balcony. Two chairs, one wood side chair the other an office chair. No movie rentals, HBO or such, just regular TV. Hotel didn't offer any programs that we were aware of although the inroom guide said there were talks offered in lobby. Restaurant had very small selection with only one desert a day and it was very small (too small to share). I ordered sizzling vegetable dish for $16.99 which was just inexpensive veggies like celery, onion, bok choy. Nothing exotic and not worth price. Rice was cold. Carrot cake was about a 2" sq piece, about what you see in senior buffets. No gift shop. Mosquitos in laundry area. Location was perfect with County park behind it which offered good walks and protected ocean swimming. Staff very friendly, especially Bea at the pool side grill. Definitely Aloha spirit, very relaxed atmosphere.

This hotel is very nice, especially considering the price. We had no complaints. The room was huge and looked out onto Lydgate Park. It was a short walk to the beach, and the protected pools of the park. The bed was very comfortable. Our room had a shower unit only, no bathtub, so not exactly a romantic bath experience, but that's the only criticism we could make of the hotel. It's located between Lihue and the town of Kapa'a. It's not near any other hotels, but close to the beach. Kapa'a is only a couple of miles north, and Coconut Marketplace is about a mile away. We don't have kids and didn't use the pools, so don't have any input on those things (though Lydgate Park has a kid pool.) We were very happy with this hotel.

If you want some place that all you need is sleep, this place is fine. However, if you have some sort of a "RESORT" in mind...don't go. When we arrived, the elevator didn't work, the vending machines didn't even have water in them, as they were empty! So upon going to the front desk, oh, big suprise, they didn't even have water there. We arrived hoping to spend money and go out on the deck of the local bar/eatery,only to find out that it was CLOSED!! So we went down to a snack bar and were greeted by someone who was bleaching the floor while cooking our grilled cheese sandwiches and bottled beer. WELCOME TO THE RESORT! The toilet didn't work, however, the hotel didn't care. We left the resort and switched hotels. Totally do the kayak trip up the river though. It's the best part. We don't remember the outfit, but we met at 7:00 a.m. and did the 4-5 hour trip. They packed our lunch, led us up the river, took us to the falls, and then led us back down. That was the best part. Please, don't stay here. It's not fun

Stayed in one of the garden view cottages. (View mostly green lawn.) Disconcerted to find scores of dead ants in mini-refrig and a huge, dead cockroach underneath the kitchen sink but housekeeping was quickly dispatched and cleaned up everything, inc. large trash bag left in parking lot by our door. Carpets had just been steam-cleaned so had that chemical smell. Air-conditioning dispelled that quickly. Slow drain in tub, the two tv sets old but over-all, had a very nice 3-night stay, comfortable bed. Staff very friendly, professional and helpful. Well-kept landscaping. Great location to everything. Would come back.
