I really would not stay here. A really unwelcoming place, breakfast is unattended, all there was were two really cheap looking toasters. A really unclean-depressing area and really puts a negativity on the location spot. The rooms are so unclean its unbelievable. I noticed that the duvet have just maybe been 'turned around'. There was a very noticeable blood stain on the other side of the duvet. Also, a lot of hair covered the sheets. The owners, A man- accompanied by his wife, were very unwelcoming, depressing and really rude people. They also doubled our bill which made it around 140pounds. Overall, i would not recommend this place as somewhere to stay. Its really bad.

worked there, went in,two words dark and old! The bathroom walls were falling down, green gunge all over the shower heads, and taps. The bed sheets are disgusting, and take a look, trust me. Dont let the 'four poster bed ' take over, take a look under neath the sheet! The towels are never changed, the owner told me to clean the mirror with room spray. And then tried telling me that the duvet was clean all i had to do was turn it over and 'hide' the dirty side. Overall i say 'faulty towers' Puts down the location really.

We felt conned! The Hotel was nothing more than a B & B, without the Breakfast. The car paking was to the rear of the property with no entry from the rear to the Hotel. The room was small, very crampt and the bed was a 4 poster, but not as described in the advert. The bed was lumpy and not very confortable. After ready the asdvert I made a booking in good faith, but my experience with this hotel, left me with a feeling of being conned, I ask whether this advert breaches the Trade Descriptions Act?Having paid hotel prices, for a sub standard B & B, I will think twice about using your service again. You need to get a grip of these con artists who over state their accomodation in this manner. This experience left My wife & I with a negative view of your service and a dissapointing end to our second honeymoon.I look forwarsd to you response to this matter.

'There is no rule to say a twin room shouldn't be bunk beds.'We booked a twin room, we were given pink plastic and metal bunkbeds. When we complained about this we were told they were allowed to advertise bunk beds as a twin room, they were completely ignorant to the idea that it might be courteous to note this upon booking, for it is clearly completely inappropriate for many times you might book a twin room. The lady went through our things while we were out in the evening (some time after nine thirty pm! - because there was something left in the room by a previous customer. When we asked why they couldn't have waited for us to return we were told they needed to make sure we didn't take it. (a shirt left in the wardrobe..) The couple were incredibly rude and defensive when we reasonbably said in the morning that we weren't happy, it is a perfect reflection of the hotel that they had no interest in why we felt them going through the room was intrusive, or why the bunk beds were entirely inappropriate. Also basic complaints on top of these major ones, room was tiny, poor signal on the TV, skylight window didn't close...

One night stop overFor one person the room was adequate in size and hosted all necessary amenities to see you through a one night stay. The hotel needs to look to maintainance as the TV did not work and the window was very difficult to shut. Overall a pleasant experience, but needs to look to bringing the decor into more modern times to make the most of the room size and customer tastes.

not bad at allgood for what you pay for. short walk into the centre of york. room is a little small and the shower isn't too good, but other than that its fine. also, if your on the third floor (where we were) good luck getting up the stairs if your a litle drunk!

Towels please! We stayed for 2 nights. Accomodation was tired and shabby. Don't be fooled by the 'four poster bed' room description. We both had showers on the first night and the following morning. We went into York for the day on day 2 and came back. The room hadn't been serviced and we had to ring down for more towels, tea, milk and loo roll. We were told that the towels were changed every 3 days!! as they were very busy and couldn't afford to change them more frequently. When we came back later that evening the towels had been replaced but I think the proprietor needs to go on a customer service course! Seemed to have their hands full with babies rather than looking after their guests. An experience.

Wouldn't recommendDisappointed with small size of room and bathroom. Bed took up most of the space. Extra towels were given on request.

Only in the UK!How do these dreary - a la Fawlty Towers - establishments stay in business? Lumpy matresses, dribbling shower plus broken shower door, dusty plastic flowers, broken TV...I am a supporter of quirky, family run hotels, but this was just shoddy!

Staff very friendly and helpful.Room nice and clean. On reflection felt that our room would not suitable as a family room with a teenager - sofa bed would block access to bathroom, it would take a lot of moving around to get it sorted. Our son was not with us, but he is 15 and 5'10".Light and razor did not work over sink in bathroom.Would suggest taking out middle wardrobe section which seems just to be storage space - would give more room at end of bed.

A one night breakThe service prior to arrival was solicitous and he room was fine except that the bathroom was no bigger than a broom cupboard and made even using the toilet a bit of a squeeze. It was nice to be able to park round the back. There didn't seem to be much atmosphere or sign of life. It was a good deal which was why I chose to book.

Astley HouseAbout 12-15min. walk from the Minster, the Astley House is in a fairly quiet part of the city. The room I had was good with a four poster bed but there were touches of wear throughout the room. Parts of the carpeting were worn thin and some parts of the shower needed to be regrouted. It was a good place for the value and wouldn't mind staying again

Lovely b&bClean and comfortable accommodation. Friendly staff. Only bad point was the parking. Only parking for 3cars comfortably without blocking other guests in. There is parking to the front but this is a busy road and you were advised to park on the cobbles as there is a single yellow line down the road and some people have had tickets as their wheels touched the line. We enjoyed our stay York is beautiful try the fudge kitchen! Staff were friendly. Only bad point is the parking.

Great Stay Recommended Hotel!Stayed here last night....We were warmly welcomed on arrival, Friendly and informative. Our room was clean and quite big (even though the four poster bed took up most the space) Plenty of wardrobe space with long mirrors and dressing table. Great value for money would definatly recommend this hotel, the bed was extremely comfy (unlike some hotels). Big fluffy towels-fab, 10 mins walk to York minster. Only negative was that the car park is extremely small, 4 spaces not ideal for a big car. But other then that couldn't have been better....Thanks for an enjoyable stay!
