Booked a late valentines day weekend for a 4 poster bed-room with en suite.. found instead by turning up from london, that infact they had double booked our room, and a couple before us had taken this room, VERY DISAPPOINTING! the lady at the desk had also told us that the hotel had just overbooked one unlucky couple, who had to look about portsmouth on a saturday night for a hotel , as no rooms were free!! Mind out in bedrooms to carefully open wardrobe and drawers as the handles seem to fall off easily, 2 handles fell off when we stayed!! Oh and its very NOISY up until around 4am!, as its nearby a street of bars and clubs and the pub downstairs is open to locals! Apart from the poor care taken of allowing what u want, it was rather average! Oh and the radiator was broken, so if u stay here at a cold time of year, expect to be chilly! Moaning over.

Excellent!Ashby's Boutique Hotel is beautifully presented with comfortable rooms and very impressive entrance/bar/restaurant area. Being close to the seafront and southsea shopping centre it is in an excellent location. I found the staff very friendly and polite and would highly recommend others to stay at this hotel. (One note: the main entrance is off Osbourne road...not Clarence Parade!)

A B&B dressed up as a boutique hotel. Very small room, with no shower. The receptionist was very obliging, but most aspects of the stay were a little disappointing.

Weekend BreakA nice place with a great central location. Staff friendly, food good and all round a very pleasant stay. Only slight downer was that the rooms can get a little noisy in the evening and over breakfast depending on what is going on downstairs.Overall would happily recommend for a stay.

The room was extremely small and there was no shower or phone. The wi-fi was useless and kept dropping out, so I could get little work done. They do not serve food on a Monday, which was not made clear when I booked or when I checked in, so I had to trapse around to find something eat at 9.00pm. Breakfast did not start until 8.00am, which is useless when you have to get to an early meeting.

Good overall, a few small gripes....As usual with a boutique hotel, some things were just a bit sketchy....The shower went to a dribble when someone else was using theirs in another room, the temperature in the room was really hard to control, all the milks on the tea tray were out of date.Shame really, as the staff were nice and the food in the restaurant enjoyable.k

Pleasant prelude to ferry tripFood was good but perhaps a little too fancy. Some simple dishes well cooked would be nice.

Quality hotel, recommendedAll aspects of the hotel was great and had no problems. Must say that the customer service was excellent. The only down point i would say is that the food portions at dinner was very small compared to the price that i paid but every hotel is like that. But the food was of very high quality so that probably made up for it.

The hotell seemd to be all style and no substance. Although the room was very well decorated. There was no wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes, a very stylish set of drawers is not very good to hang up a business suit. The room backed onto the kitchen fridges which were making noise all night. The view from the window was the back yard, full of rubbish and empty beer barrels. The address of Aukland Street West is actual the back of the hotel which is confusing as the only door here is for residents only and a key was needed. After treking around the streets you finally come to the front. The bar although very comfortable closed at 10pm and all the lights in the hotel were turned off.

A beautiful small hotel where the food and service where both outstanding. As a lone female traveller I felt really comfortable in the bar reading my book. Defiantely worth a stay.

Nice quiet hotel which we have used before and for conveience will use again. Not great for parking - £10 for an overnight stay in the car park outside the hotel or £3 with a voucher from hotel to park in areas around the hotel. Rooms are lovely. Disappointed with the huge shower - water temperature was uncotrollable and stayed at 'boiling' point throughout. Now i like a hot shower but even i couldn't cope with this. A poor yound lad from the hotel did try to fix it, but in all honesty he didn't really know what he was doing. No shower for us that weekend. Disappointed that they didn't offer us a different room as at least three were empty!! Breakfast disappointing as there was no fresh fruit (or even tinned as we've had in other places) and no yoghurts, cooked breakfast was fine. I was amused to note that we had thin common or garden white toast whilst the only other 2 guest having breakfast had lovely thick granary. Make sure you ask!!

Having grown up in Portsmouth I was very pleased to see what the new owners of this hotel have achieved with what once used to be a bar called the outback. This is a lovely hotel and in a great location for visitors to Southsea and was really excellent value for money. Our room albeit quite small was very comfortable and the decor was really lovely - the bed was very comfortable! The only thing that took the edge off for us, was the noise of the fan - in the ensuite shower room which seemed to go on for much longer than necessary and in the cellar below our room - however the owner told us this could be dealt with quite easily. Breakfast was fine, and is had in their lovely oak pannelled dinning room. The big plus is the bar attached to the hotel which if you arrive late like we did is open to 1am at the weekends! We will definitely go again.

Staff seemed a little unprepared. Heating in the room didn't work; was also quite difficult to find anyone when you needed assistance. Dominance of 2 big screens showing Sky Sports was a bit much. The only person who seemed to be wanting this service was a member of staff, who was slumped in a chair watching it when we arrived.Apparently the hotel staff had only been there a few days, so I assume a change of management. I hope the service and teething problems settle down soon, as it could be a very nice hotel.
