The hotel is in walking distance for many restaurants, great shopping and Waikiki beach. The front desk staff was very helpful and accomodating. Not much time was spent in our rooms but it was comfortable (except for the mattress on the bed) for the price.

Good location and very friendly and helpful staff. After calling ahead to ask for a king-size bed, our request was granted. It was a special anniversary for us and we were given a room with a pretty view and a box of chocolates. The staff was exceptional. We enjoyed venturing out and about the Waikiki and Honolulu area which was close by. We would return to this hotel if the opportunity arose.

I was pleasantly surprised to get a room on the 39th floor looking over the Diamond Head mountain and the Eastern part of Waikiki area. It was the greatest view for a reanable price)))

Not worth the money, bathroom was small and disgusting. Really old feel. Would not stay here again...ever! And dont recommend anyone stay here. Parking is an additional $18 a day for guests and there is really no where else to park on the streets unless you want to get towed.

the front desk reps were very friendly and helpful, check in was quick and made me feel welcome. i called the front desk and told them, the a\\c wasn't cooling the room. they had a brand new unit installed in 30 minutes, that worked perfect. however, the pool area was somewhat affected - repair to the exterior of the hotel..... as aqua resorts advertise - island colony is a mid-level hotel - and i must add island colony is a very good mid-level hotel.......

While the bathroom was quite small and there was no exhaust fan in it, overall the room was quite adequate for my needs on a one-night stay. For the budget consious, it is an easy walk to and beats the prices on Waikiki Beach. I liked the view overlooking the canal and golf course.

The hotel was what I was expecting...nice but older, it served it's purpose. There were no bed bugs!! We upgraded to a 1bedroom ocean view room with full kitchen...views of the city and ocean at night are awesome. I give the hotel staff a A1 rating, very friendly and very prompt on any request we made. Hotel location was good...10 minute walk to Waikiki beach or 4 minutes to a bus stop. The pool was open and great to relax in, and the hot tub was hot. I would recommend to others- good for the money.

Checking in, we were asked for our drivers licenses (looking at our ids for reservation verification, I can understand). However, the desk person takes them into the back room and makes a copy of all of them. Comes back out and when asked why he made a copy, he explains that it is part of hotel?s policy. Then when told we did not want the ids copied because of our identity theft concerns, he said, "oh, I only made a copy of one id." As this is a first for me, we asked to speak to the manager. The assistant manager comes out holding a copy of the six ids in our group (the employee flat out lied to our face about how many ids were copied). When asked about the policy, the assistant manager cannot explain or give any valid reason why the hotel would need a copy. Despite the above, the rooms are very outdated and are disgusting in most respects. If you like sleeping on a rock hard bed, this is probably the hotel for you. However, if itchiness of the sheets and the feely that bugs are crawling on you is not for you, then I would pass on this hotel. The bathroom is just as bad because it was dirty. The floor was dirty with mold in the corners, the shower was unclean and you felt like you should wear shower shoes. Also, the A/C was not sufficient to cool the room and had black stuff coming from its vent. The bottom of the closet door had water damage. All and all, the room felt very unclean. We tried to spend the least amount of time possible in this hotel. No rating should be above a 1 out of 5 here.

Okay, let's tell it like it (really) is: My family owned two units in the Island Colony for many years, and the building is now old, with fairly outdated facilities and rooms and appointments (though they are doing some work). I would not recommend the Island Colony for yuppie status-concious couples, as I am afraid you will be disappointed. HOWEVER, if you are looking for an economical hotel right off of the Ali Wai Canal, and two blocks from Kalakawa, with some unparalleled views (if you select the right room), then you will be glad you gave this one a shot. Since my family sold the last unit in 2004, we have gone back twice to stay. It is a solid value for the money. Yes, the furnishings, and decor are very old and in some cases quite worn, but in our experience, basically clean. The Lanai is large for Waikiki standards, and worth a fair amount if you can get a high floor room. The kitchenette is very functional and can save you some money if you get the rooms with a larger fridge to store leftovers and some staples. Parking is now $18/day and almost compulsory due to the lack of street parking in all of Waikiki. The parking garage elevators take you only to the lobby, where you must then get into another separate elevator to go to your room floor - goofy, but adds a measure of security. The actual street the hotel is on (Seaside) is a little "ratty", but not really a problem. Just bear in mind this is not a 4-5 star major hotel right on the beach. We will most likely stay there many times in the future and "take the good with the bad".

Read the reveiws before I went so wasn't sure what I would get. Disagree with anything about bugs, never saw any while I was there. Very nice room and very good amenities, tub was good size, since one of my friends needs a tub to take a bath rather than a shower. Only bad thing was the pool was down due to constuction but we were in Hawaii so ocean is a better choice anyway! Will stay there again without question.

My family and I didn't spend too much time in the hotel, however the room was very small and oudated. We have to change rooms because the water pressure was very low and the bath tub was getting clogged. Staff was very helpful, the cleaning crew needs to do a better job...couple of times we left garbarage on the floor in purpose and upon our returned the garabage was stil there. They never hcanged the bed sheets and the unit was very outdated. Parking was $18 per day! We were able to do early check in.

Good location. Not clean. There was a false alarm one morning, end up it shut down the elevator. The hotel engineer didn't know how to turn on the elevator. We had to walk down from 37th floor as we had to go to work.

We were pleasantly surprised because during our previous stay we stood at the Marine Surf and our daughter stood here with her school, which we were unaware of until we arrived. We were very pleased with our stay, we had 3 rooms: Ours, the girls and the boys --the girls had a suite which worked out great! We bought groceries and their room was the family meeting room, which we all gathered for the daily activity schedule we had planned! The rooms were clean and the hospitality staff --front desk, night security, cleaning staff were all extremely friendly! The proximity of the beach was great!! We walked to almost everything because everything was so local!! We rented a van and only used it to go to the north & west side of the island. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and we plan to go back in a couple of years, our kids are looking forward to a return trip!!It was great!!!

We took a chance on this hotel based on a friend's recommendation. When we arrived, the front desk staff was very friendly. The room for the first night was very small and outdated but I figured it was right for the price we paid, which was VERY LOW through Orbitz. I immediately asked for an upgrade but the hotel was full. She did say if I came back in the morning, she would have some openings. The "upgrade" for $20 more was a large one bedroom condo style with a full kitchen which was at least twice the size of the other room. It was updated, very clean, and the housekeeping staff was extremely flexible about our schedule. The extra layer of security was appreciated since the hotel lobby is open to the street. It is a good 2 blocks from the beach but it is away from the hustle bustle of the Waikiki strip. The room was quite sound proof to any noise next door. We could only hear noise from the hallway which was minimal since this is also an owner-occupied building - we were on the 16th floor. The lanai was large enough for a table, 4 chairs and plenty of room to walk around. We were very happy with the stay at the Island Colony and would definitely stay there again.

Good location close to beach and international market. Can't think of anything - met our requirements. The hotel in located in a good area along the canal and close to the International Market and the beach. It would be a prefect hotel for an economical holiday get away as it was equipped with a fridge, microwave and kitchen equipment.

We stayed here one night and felt it was good value. Room was very clean. Staff was helpful. Big pool. Aqua provides a useful coupon book that saved us money on meals and attractions (e.g., zoo, aquarium). If you are interested in being close to the center of Waikiki and are willing to walk 5-10 minutes to the beach, then Island would be a good choice.
