Aqua was short walking distance to shops and the beach at a very low price which we figured out to be for a reason. Our stay... upon arrival half an hour after check in times posted... We were given a smoking room... I thought it may have the smell of an ashtray... but not the stench that we discovered... so i lit candles and sprayed some air and fabric freshiners. We left the room for 10 mins ( we forgot a bag in the car ) to return to our room to find a jack bed in our all ready small room... when I say small i mean hard to walk around the full size bed. So we called the desk and discovered a mistake had been made and it was left in the wrong room not a big deal... settle in to our bed... the springs in the bed poked every inch of my body. Grab the remote for a little tv.. flat line :( tv broken. Call desk again... they send up maintence whom slaps his hand on the tv several times and radios the desk to conferm the tv is broken. We switch rooms... :) only to find... slightly larger room :) slightly less stink :) tv works :) but remote is broken and so is the ac unit in the second room :(:(:( the bed in the second room was MUCH better then the first... Good morning in our new room ... coffee pot was broken back to the desk to get a new coffee pot... Maintence brings one up 2 hours later... and bring your own sugar cuz if you need more then 2 your out of luck ( only 2 sugar packets per room ) even the cleaning ladies wont give up more then one extra... so I had my coffee... go to brush my teeth... I couldnt adjust the water temp because the knob fell off into my hand when I turned it on... Back to the desk again.... Maintence again... Finally I could brush my teeth... ac never got fixed... tv remote never worked *(even with new batteries ) $18.00 per day to park a car and be sure not to rent a truck cuz you wont fit into the parking ramp. Other then all that. I wont be going back there again.

Friendly, clean and its economy for the price I paid. There's none I can think of. They were caring. Caring Staff. The price was amazing. Location was good. Near bus line and beaches.

You get what you pay for. Great location but old hotel. If you have a car this is not the place to stay. OK to stay just for sleep and a shower nothing more.

I was in Honolulu for a week for work staying at an expensive hotel paid for by my employer. When the week was over and I had to pay for a hotel, I moved here which was only a few blocks from the original hotel. While it is an older hotel, it is clean. I was 2 blocks from the ocean which I could see from my window. It has window air conditioning which isn't great, but it was sufficient. My room also had a kitchenette which I found handy. However, the alarm clock and the phone did not work consistently, but if you have a cell phone and a travel alarm, it doesn't matter. Night front desk staff seemed a lot friendlier and more helpful than the daytime staff, some of whom were downright unfriendly and minimally helpful. It has an excellent location for a tourist. I spent my time there mostly on tours or shopping for souvenirs and just needed the hotel as a place to sleep and store my things. If I were going back to Honolulu and planned on staying at the hotel most of the time, I would probably want a newer hotel with more amenities like room service (although there are lots of restaurants within walking distance), more cable channels, and a workout room. But, if you're going there to be a tourist you won't spend much time there and you can allocate your money to other things besides your accommodations. If I ever go back I will stay there again.

Inexpensive and good breakfast across the street. Blankets on the beds did not seem clean. Room was tidy but bed was not very comfortable. For the price this was probably expected.

Don't expect much from this hotel, you get what you pay for. The elevators were a little scary chipped paint on walls, sticky floors and walls. The rooms are very small as is the bathroom, our beds were made everyday if you can call it that. It always looked like the maid just pulled up the blankets and didn't bother to smooth anything out, it always looked lumpy...one day we came back and heard bubbling coming from the bathroom and went to look and saw black stuff coming up in the shower. Called the front desk to have someone come and look, we had to call them twice before anyone came to check it out. He finally fixed the problem and we asked if he could send housekeeping up to clean the shower again, he said he would but no-one ever came, after waiting for 2 hours or so we had to clean it ourselves.

The staff was really friendly and helpful. I loved how close to the beach we were! Although if they had a vending machine while we were there then it would have been nicer to be able to just get snacks in the middle of the night. But other than that the hotel was in good condition and beds were comfortable.

Hotel close to beaches, shopping, restaurants; centrally located. The hotel met our expectations. It was clean and neat, room had refrigerator, microwave; staff was accommodating and hotel is centrally located to shops, beaches, restaurants, theaters.

Finding the hotel proved to be difficult because the name on the building was Continental, not Aqua Continental. From there on it was all down hill. The hotel is old, semi-dirty, and very run down. It is significantly worse than a Motel 6. The bathroom had mold in the corners and cracks, and all the spreads and linens were very well worn and dirty. They upgraded the spread when I complained. The front desk was staffed with folks who did not want to deal with complaints or reparation. They would not refund our prepay as the online company would not refund our money directly. The girl in India told us that we had to deal with the hotel directly. The parking was unbelievable ........one lane up and down in an ancient poorly lit ramp. The housekeep staff tried hard to be helpful. Our overall trip is totally flawed by the Aqua Continental. Fortunately, other aspects of the Honolulu trip were fine.

There was definitely something amiss here. We arrived very late and were told there was no parking left. Luckily, the hotel across the street had parking available and it was cheaper 15 v 18. The room - a smoking room though we were specific about wanting nonsmoking and they said they couldn't move us - was tiny and had a tiny bed and furniture that looked like I put it together myself, blindfolded, while drunk. We made coffee the first morning and the cleaning staff left the mugs out, dirty the whole time we were there. I really felt like there was something awry - from what the staff said, I was led to believe that only a few floors of the hotel were the Aqua Continental and other floors were operated by another company and/or under another name. There was another name on the front of the building, incidentally. It kind of felt like a hostel only scarier and more like a rent-by-the-hour kind of place. This is certainly a place you want to wipe things down and not touch anything in. The best thing about this place is the location. It is close to the beach and the main drag and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and things to do around there. I would recommend highly against this place and the next time, will be a little more spendy and treat myself to a nicer place. We tried to use good humor in this situation, telling ourselves we weren't in Hawaii to hang out in a hotel, but it would have been nice to have the option to have a drink on our balcony and/or at the hotel pool. We had no option but to be out and about all the time. Good luck if you go!

It is a cheap place to stay in paradise. We learned early, however, that you get what you pay for. The parking is a problem and there is no place to park in order to check in. We drove past the place 5 times before we realized this and finally saw another car pulling out of a small entry next to the hotel. They charged us $18 to park in the lot with no alternatives offered. They tried to put us in a room with 2 twin beds, but after further discussion the front desk finally gave us a room with a queen. The staff was helpful and seemed friendly enough, but the hotel needs to be completely redone. Its old and the rooms are tiny, but at least it was clean. The location is great since it is right near the beach and among a number of nicer hotels. Overall, I must say that we were a bit disappointed in the hotel, but we didn't spend a lot of time there. We wanted a cheap place to stay and the Continental certinally is cheap and as noted above, we got what we paid for. We were out and about most of the time seeing all the sights. Next time we'll spent a little more and book a better quality hotel.

First off, when Aloha Airlines & ATA went bankrupt during my stay, all Aqua Hotels in Waikiki quickly offered to let any stranded Aqua occupant stay free for 3 additional days after their reservation was due to expire. This allowed me a few extra days to scramble around to find a new way to fly home. This was very thoughtful & helpful of Aqua. Yes, for FREE. I would stay here again (even if they had not offered me the 3 extra days). Physical condition of the bldg was so-so (maybe some occasional peeling paint here & there, but generally clean). If you want lavish surroundings stay elsewhere. But I chose this hotel because the price was cheap (compared to other Waikiki hotels) and the location was convenient (1/2 block to public transportation, 2 blks to the only supermarket in Waikiki, 3 short blks to beach, 4 blks to International Marketplace). The staff was friendly & helpful. Note: the hotel name ... hotel names in Waikiki frequently change when there is a new owner. This hotel is listed here as Aqua Continental. And Aqua now owns multiple hotels in Waikiki. But name on front of bldg says Continental Surf (in case you are looking for this hotel in some older literature)(or telling your airport shuttle driver where to take you)(or stumbling home after a few tropical drinks).

From the pictures on the website, the hotel looked okay - definately not 5 star, but okay for the price. However, the rooms were terrible. Extremely small, beat up (the bottom of the bathroom door was kicked in and the quilt cover had a tear in it) and just terrible. Combine that with the fact that it had no amenities (no pool or place to sit outside), I would definately not stay here again. The only plus was the free wireless in the lobby (but I feel all hotels are offering this now). If you are looking for a place to stay in the $50 to $100 price range, I think I would suggest a hostel over this hotel.

For a buget hotel, the Surf Continental is the biggest bang for the buck. Our room was equipt with almost all of the ammentaties of home making our stay very comfortable. The location is excellent and serves as a pivit point within walking distance to many eateries and shopping conviences as well as some of the local events that take place. We found the hotel staff to be polite, courteous, helpful and responsive to all of our needs. Let's be practical for a moment, things don't always go according to plan and there are some inconviences that occur from time to time, however, the Hotel Staff made quick work of those areas of concern. We look at all of the positive aspects of our Hotel that we have and will continue to return to this facility. We hope that we were as good as a guest as the Hotel was our host. The location of this hotel is quite favorable. Few minute walk down Uliunu St and you're at the main strip just accross from the wonderful beach. If you only need a roof over your head, a shower and a toilet, then the room may be o.k. However, for aesthetics, cleanliness and upkeep, a big thumbs down for this hotel is more than fair. Our room smelled like urine. I mentioned this to the lady working the lobby desk, but nothing was done about it. I found that keeping the bathroom door shut helped. Of course, this meant the bathroom was dangerously unsanitary. But we were locked into the Travel agency package that says when you call " If you have already checked in, you may not cancel the hotel portion of your package." We were stuck. The maintenance throughout the hotel was lackin; damaged tiles and paint in the elevators that were not fresh wounds, but appear to have been that way for years, black, sticky crud in the corners, tattle telling that the cleaning crew has not handled in months. The bottom of my room door was broken off and light and sounds from the hallway flooded in.
