Apex Waterloo - Edinburgh July 09The plus side of the hotel is the convenient location and the hotel itself is contemporary and very well decorated and the rooms are spacious and modern with pleasant Spa facilities. The downside was our room was opposite a nightclub and had people walking past our window until the early hours so would recommend staying on high floors to avoid noise if you like sleep. Our room service breakfast arrived late and was totally wrong and cold so was sent back and finally arrived over an hour later than was originally booked which was dissappointing as delayed our departure.

this is a really nice hotel. it's clean, well designed, cool, and very comfortable and friendly. really, it's a great spot. the reason i gave it 2 stars is because it is advertised as having free wifi. most of the hotels we stayed at in the UK had wifi but you had to pay, this place it was included with your room. sweet! the catch it turned out once we got there, was that it didn't work reliably on iPhones. huh? a call to their support revealed that it was a "known issue that it didn't work on mac platforms." what?! as if the internet isn't mac compatible? let alone iPhones. sheesh. this was extremely inconvenient for us as we were using our phone's web connections constantly throughout our trip to make calls via skype, make bookings at places, find the best dinning, download maps and directions, and so on. we both felt our time in Edinburgh was compromised by this, and the hotel had no computers we could use in light of their network not supporting our extremely common devices. the internet cafes were not super nearby and all closed surprisingly early (10 pm at the latest it seemed), eliminating the possibility of doing logistical planning at night when other options were few. so i cannot recommend this hotel, despite it really being a great hotel in all other ways. the fatal flaw of the no-wifi on iPhones/macs is a deal breaker for me. however, if this need does not apply to you, i would in fact whole-heartedly recommend the Apex Waterloo. it's a great place... but with no iphone compatible wifi. (one last technical note: i think if we'd had laptops (even macs, god forbid) and had paid a fee, we could have used an ethernet option in the room, just not the wifi. but iphones don't have an ethernet port obviously, so this didn't help us.)

Great locationCentral for all of Edinburgh's sights and although at the end of Princess Street, nice and quiet. Didn't use restaurant but menu looked good with reasonable prices. Only stayed one night but perfectly satisfied.

I loved everything about this hotel. The rooms were smartly appointed, and they were quite roomy by European standards. The beds had great linen and were exceptionally comfortable. I loved the shower, too it had the best water pressure of any hotel I've ever stayed in. When I had trouble with my air conditioning, I spoke with [...], the guest relations manager, and she went up to my room to investigate within 10 minutes. I can't fault the hotel too much about that, though, because Edinburgh was experiencing an unprecedented heat wave while I was there. Joanne and the rest of the staff were friendly, helpful and cheerful. Wifi Internet was complimentary and quite fast. I'll definitely stay at this hotel during my next trip to Edinburgh.

Apex waterlooi stayed one night with my teenage son. Well placed hotel in the centre of edinburgh. Nearby car parking - ncp with 20% discount for hotel guests. Staff were efficient but not friendly - quite a frosty girl working in the bar that evening who offered not even a smile far less any enquiry / chat about our stay. We did not eat there. Gym small but good - no-one there when we went. The pool, steam and sauna although small were great and clean. Changing facilitites also very good. On the whole, woulf stay again and reccommend to others.

The hotel was very nice and the location is great. A couple of blocks from the airport bus stop so getting to and from the airport was easy. The city info center is close by as well. It is very close to one of the most expensive hotels in the city. Only ate one breakfast at the hotel because I found better prices close by. I could walk to Calton Hill and the Royal Mile in minutes. The room did not have a clock so I had to use the wake-up service a couple of times. No problems, they called right at the exact time requested.

The hotel and room was lovely very modern hotelThe hotel and room was lovely very modern hotel, only downside was when window was open a lot of noise from road, also at time of stay building works was taking place adjacent to hotel so was woken up early with builders.Would definately recommend the hotel very good and value for money. Excellent location only 5/10 minutes walk to Princess Street, also excellent location for Waverley Station.

We had great customer service during our entire four day stay from the front desk, bar, restaurant, and housekeeping. The room was very contemporary and the bath had a separate tub and large shower. The spa has only a small steam and sauna (fits about 2-3 people) but was still nice. The hotel is brand new. It's next to Calton Hill where a short climb will get you great city views and three blocks from Waverley Bridge where the city sightseeing bus picks up.

Couldn't be a better location for seeing Edinburgh. The rooms are a very nice size, extremely clean, with comfortable beds and a nice big bath tub to relax in after a long day of touring. It is situated right by Waverley Station and if you are doing a tour with Heart of Scotland it is right accross the street from where the bus picks you up.

Lovely place, friendly staff- but not one for the 'foodies'Our room was lovely, though view was of another face of the hotel, so VERY overlooked. Staff were very accommodating despite us turning up early- with two bicycles in tow. Had a very comfortable stay. Veggie breakfast wasnt bad. My partner says the 'full scottish' was. Mine was missing mushrooms. I asked for them and was told they had run out. Toast was brought and conserves were already on the tables. We asked for marmalade, but was told they had run out. We found some on another table, but did wonder why the waitress didnt bother to look for us. Had an otherwise good experience- on the 'introductory offer', but personally I wouldnt pay anything near the usual standard rate to stay here

Great place, shame about the noise! We stayed here on a Saturday night and had a basic room to the rear of the hotel and despite the fact that it was a great room in terms of facilities, cleanliness, comfortable bed and so on, we suffered a bad night's sleep due to the noise from outside and the heat. There is a pub/club just opposite so there was noise from bottle skips and people as well as delivery vehicles. It was also quite a humid night and the air conditioning appeared to be controlled centrally so no option for us to change the temp when it got too warm. We ate out so can only review the food in terms of the breakfast which was good, although I prefer my bacon to have more meat than fat, otherwise it was good and the girl who served us was very pleasant and efficient. The hotel is ideally located, only a few minutes walk from Waverley Station and therefore on the doorstep for Prince's Street, but perhaps a less noisy room at the front of the hotel would be requested the next time as I would like to stay here again :-)
