Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were good size and clean. View from hotel restaurant of Edinburgh Castle was fantastic. Locations was excellent for walking to the High Street and other locations. Excellent restaurants close to the Hotel.

We have been here before. Its in the best location the staff are always helpful and the rooms are lovely. The only disappointing thing this time was the the restaurant was not open on the top floor.

Terrible checkout queues. Terrible food for a hotel of this standard. Unlocatable stairs. Perpetually full lifts (only 2 lifts). Unruly guests, loud and uncontrollable. If in a room facing the street (I stayed in both a room facing the street and a room facing the carpark), drunks clearly heard at all hours of the night through closed windows. Absolute disgrace. Litter all over corridors outside room. Noise from other guests including screaming and normal conversation clearly heard. Good parking (free). Nicely decorated bathroom but poor shower pressure. Good quality toiletries provided. Iron and ironing board provided which is a nice touch. Television channels limited to BBC, ITV, Five and Channel 4 only. Very poor for a hotel of this standard. Disappointing. Will never stay here again.

We were very pleased with the Apex International. The staff was very helpful. The room was very nice. Only minor complaint was that we were there when it was quite warm and with no A/C or fan, the air was a bit warm until late at night. Be aware that while it is indeed 200m from the Castle entrance, that 200m is straight up! (ha!)

Cean hotel, good location for doing the tourist thing!Overall a nice room, and a nice hotel, situated just below Edinburgh Castle. A great location for visiting all the historic buildings of Edinburgh. Our twin room was situated at the front of the hotel - lovely view of the castle, but very noisy during the night as the outlook is on to a number of pubs. If you want a good nights sleep ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

unfortunate to have a room overlooking service area ,so delivery lorry woke us in the morning, and noise came up from the bar. hotel was busy and queue for breakfast in the morning. facilities were good, beds were comfy, staff were friendly and local, more geared to the business person than a families but good value for a smallchain hotel.

Night awayvery good location. We happened to stay the one night the temperature rose above 25 degrees in scotland and of course no air conditioning so was very noisy with windows open.

Hottest Day of the Year and they had a pool!I arrived about ten minutes before official check-in time and reception were very quick and helpful, sorting my key out in double quick time and pointing me in the direction of the swimming pool. Temperatures were in the eighties and I was in a hurry to cool off. Dropped my bags off in the room which was on the fourth floor. It looked quite lovely with two big double beds and was a comfortable temperature despite the heat outside. The coffee and tea tray had three packs of nice looking biscuits and two bottles of water. Pity there wasn't a fridge to cool it off, but the water was still welcome even if it wasn't cold. There was a very decent sized hairdryer in the room and proper hangers in the wardrobe. Bathroom looked a little tired and old fashioned, but the shower was simply wonderful and everything was spotless.Headed down to the swimming pool which is relatively small. It coped well enough with three adults doing laps, and I enjoyed the view of Edinburgh Castle as I did the backstroke! Unfortunately the changing room facilities weren't quite up to par and should you get locker numbers 1 or 6 you might find someone inadvertantly smacking you in the chops with a big wooden door. There was no separate changing room, but I managed to get dressed in the shower cubicle - with a little difficulty as there was nowhere to hang my clothes or towel, and no bags to put your dripping swimsuit into. Had a beer in the garden by reception before heading back to the room. The public areas of the hotel were a little warm which put us off eating in the restaurant despite its excellent reputation. Instead we opted to eat at Mamas Pizzeria across the road in the Grassmarket as they had tables outside. I love the buzz of the Grassmarket but wouldn't go to Mamas again - their pizzas are the worst I've ever tasted. I'll definitely go back to the Apex International, or perhaps try its sister hotel just along the street. Yes bits of it are

Excellent settingThe standard was set by the front desk staff who were warm, friendly and helpful. Rooms were what one would expect from this class of hotel though I suspect the bathroom sink was designed for very small people who don't shave ....... children, perhaps?! The addition of a small shaving mirror would have made all the difference. We'll be back - and not just to look for the missing mirror!

good quality hotel at cheap price through laterooms.comgot there 12 noon able to leave bags in store as room not ready till 3pm. fine. room has two queen double beds very clean with good view of Edinburgh. pool was small only used it for short time. bar area relaxing, lots of big leather sofas, breakfast good with fantastic view of castle from the 5th floor. 2 night break for my wife and IVery impressed overall. Restaurant service for breakfast was so good that we summoned the duty manager to tell him just how polite and very helpful the staff were !! Checking in staff also were most attentive, friendly and polite. A very big bonus to guests with a car was the sheer convenience of the car park at the rear - and so reasonably priced too. A star attraction was the view - many bedrooms had magnificent views of the castle and the restaurant gave all guests a panoramic view. We could not find a fault at all and we would stay again anytime !!

Good hotel with a fantastic locationHotel is Located in a fantastic part of the city. Reception on entrance and departure was excellent however bar attendants in the evening sometimes struggled with English! (had to get collegue to translate). Room was clean, not a great view and the shower flooded the bathroom with each use. Parking was EXCELLENT, under the holel - large spaces and very secure - VERY cheap when compared to NEC.All in all a good hotel, a little pricy for what you get, I have stayed in nicer 3 star hotels but location and parking does compensate. We would use this hotel again.

Hotel carpark is far too small and you are left to your own devices to squeeze in. Stairs everywhere making it impossible for my elderly mother and heavy suitcases. Room was not very clean, lightbulbs not working and not even freeview channels to watch on the TV. Very little in the way of facilities. Requested a bathrobe ( I would have paid a hire charge) but was told I was not in the right class of room. Breakfast on the top floor was a nightmare. Queued for 30mins just to get in. there was no system for managing the dining room and there were loads of empty and uncleared tables whilst the queue got even longer. Service was amateurish and food distinctly average. Hate it when a hotel that normally charges 200quid a night can't even get you a cafetiere of real coffee. Would never stay there again.
