An excellent choice! Very charming, clean, and wonderful service and amenities. Nice touches like the wine and cheese, turndown service, etc. Very friendly staff. Outstanding location. Definitely would go back again.

The inn was small and cozy, well-adorned and in easy walking distance of everywhere. Wine and cheese happy hour was a fun time to socialize. The continental breakfast was less than stellar. Bagels and biscuits were quite dry and flavorless. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Anchorage Inn while we were in Charleston for a wedding of a friend. The king bed was quite comfortable and the room was stylishly adorned. Staff was friendly, although not overly knowledgeable of surrounding restaurants and bars. The continental breakfast was eminently miss-able, but the wine and cheese happy hour was quite enjoyable. We made a few new friends over a couple of complimentary glasses of wine. Overall, the inn is right in the center of everything and we had quite an enjoyable stay.

Can't beat the location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was small, but roomy enough for two people. Our room originally wasn't as clean as we had wished, but the staff quickly corrected it and we would definitely stay here again. Complimentary wine and cheese at 4pm, sherry at 8 and chocolate turndown service - all things more expensive hotels do not offer. Only additional item that would have been helpful would have been a place to get pop and snacks onsite - there isn't a vending machine or restaurant and the closest place to get beverages for the room is 2 blocks away. Overall, we loved our stay!

We traveled to Charleston for a Valentines day getaway and chose the Anchorage Inn. We stayed in the Charleston Suite. Overall our stay was outstanding, with a few minor complaints that the would have made this a perfect place to stay. Don't let the "bad" discourage you, we would defiantly stay there again! The good:- The room was clean, comfortable and spacious- Location! Right off of Waterfront park and within walking distance to everything. We parked the car upon arrival, and didn't see it again until we left.- The only issue that we did have with the room (dead remote batteries) was fixed instantly with a smile by the staff.- The bad:- The inns web site list concierge service. Upon check in I sought the help of the staff in dinner recommendations and setting up a private carriage ride. I asked for a recommendation for a nice Italian place but the young lady had no knowledge of any Italian restaurants in the area. I then asked if she could help make a reservation for a private carriage tour, and was told that I would have to walk to market street, find a vendor and see if anyone would do a private tour. Within 15 minutes using the restaurant guide and phone book in the room, I was able to take care of dinner reservations and set up a private carriage tour for the next evening.- Other than the receptionist the staff was mostly invisible during our stay. This may be by design, and I must admit it did give the feeling of having our "own place", but it would have been nice to have folks around to help with questions, make recommendations, etc.

my flight was early and the hotel was kind enough to let me check in early, as the room was already prepared. it has a cute old feel to it with a library, but the room decor is so dingy, as well as some of the bed linens. the carpet was pretty gross, as well and probably has never been cleaned. the location is excellent, which is what you are paying for. it's right on the water and every evening before turning in it was nice to take i a breezy stroll out on the pier. it's within walking distance to numerous sites and great restaurants. The staff is friendly and the hotel was generally very quiet. however, there is a noisy bar a couple doors down and late night raucous from outdoor smokers and revelers did travel up to my room, which faced the street. the noise did not keep me up, though.

Comfortable and in the heart of Charleston. The rooms off the street front were very comfortable and quiet. The location is perfect for restaurants, shopping, and site-seeing which is what we were mostly interested in.

As a young chef I started my career in Charleston, and after a year of marriage my wife and I decided to take an extended vacation after another wedding we went to the prior three days in Pawleys Island. The entrance to the Inn is enticing, as you walk into a quaint lobby, you are greeted by a well mannered desk attendant, who sent us up to room ten, once inside the room I could barely move around, the size of the room was like a 8X10 that barely held the queen size poster bed it housed. The hotel boasted a continental breakfast, that in fact it had but no syrup for precooked french toast and waffles that were cold was much needed. The afternoon reception was held but we ventured out for activities. The evening nitecap of sherry was a great idea but no hostess or attendent was unappealling.Location of the Inn is a plus, you will be within walking distance to all of Historic Charleston. Area restaurants that I recommend include Cypress(Young Talented Chef), Magnolias(Charleston Staple), McCradys(Have a Chocolate Martini in the Wine Bar after Dinner), Tristan(offers a great Prix Fixe Lunch 15), Meritage(best Tapas and late nite in Charleston)

The Anchorage in Charleston, SC was a great place to stay. Staff was extremely friendly and you can't beat the location, being a short walking distance for almost everything in the historic district. Only criticism would be that there is no coffee or refrigerator in the room BUT the complimentary breakfast was better than most restaurants. Wine and cheese in the afternoon and sherry in the evening are very nice touches. The rooms and public areas are beautifully appointed. Would definitly consider staying here again.

The location, the room, the historic aspect and the free wine and cheese, sherry and breakfast. It was different from other hotels in a very nice way. Could have had more television channels and free parking would have been nice. I was unsure of it at first, due to the fact that it was only a 2 1/2 star hotel, but became excited to find out that it did offer free wine and cheese, sherry and continental breakfast. It was also across from one of my favorite restaurants on Vendue! It was by far one of the most cute and enjoyable hotel experiences I have had.

This Bed & Breakfast was very charming. The bedroom was very attractive & comfortable, and the stairway with its large railings was visually pleasing. It seemed like a larger than usual B&B. The library where they held their afternoon wine & cheese reception was nice, as was the adjoining room where the buffet breakfast was held. Convenient location in the historic area. Very helpful staff.

Historical restorations. Location. Perhaps the reason we got such a nice hotel for such a moderate cost is the room was situated just off the lobby, right next to the receptionist’s desk. For me, that is a great trade off.

My fiance and I got engaged while staying at the Anchorage...friendly staff, our favorite place to stay downtown!

The room was cozy and a little bit worn down. The pillows and bed linens could be replaced. However the amenities such as wine and cheese and sherry in the evenings were delightful. We found the concierge service to be very helpful.

Location is perfect, staff is very friendly. Most of the rooms don't have windows to the exterior & are small. Our room had no window to the outside, just a small window towards the hall, and was very small. Ask for a front room. The hotel is charming, staff nice, and location perfect.
