I think if you are traveling to Aruba, you should consider this hotel. Don't think that because it is cheaper you'll be getting less. PROS: 1. Great Beach. This is really the best thing about this hotel. The beach is very nice and has approximately ten times fewer people on it than the highrise hotels. We met a repeat-visiting family that changed their trip dates to get this hotel due to the uncrowded beach (and other features). No issue in finding available 'palapas' or lounge chairs, there is also a convenient beach restaurant and bar for lunch in the shade on the beach (that you can effortlessly charge to your room). The water is picturesque and comfortable for swimming and a vendor for water sports is on the beach. 2. Impressive rooms. Our group had three of the most basic rooms and one nicer room. The nice room was palatial, but even the basic rooms were of a decent size, had a nicely appointed kitchenette (with microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker, fridge, stove, sink, etc.) and a nice bathroom. The overall look of the hotel is nice with a convenient layout. 3. Close proximity to the beach. The hotel rooms are separated from the beach by a small road, but I guarantee that it will take you less time to get to the beach than if you were in a highrise hotel. 4. Staff. The hotel staff were friendly and helped us make calls to confirm reservations made prior to our arrival and made reservations for us as well. CONS: 1. Passions beach restaurant. This restaurant, though romantic at night (feet in the sand), was disappointing. The prices were very expensive, food quality was poor and service was slow. All our dishes (party of 6)were disappointing, and we were all given identical side dishes. My fish dish was overly salty, contained bones and was tough. In general the restaurants at the hotel all share the same kitchen and none of our meals at mangos or passions were great. If you plan on dining solely at your hotel, perhaps the highrise hotel are more appropriat

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Amsterdam Manor Beach in June 2009. The location of the hotel is fantastic - right across the street from the beach, and this stretch of beach was never over-crowded. The staff was very friendly, and our room was HUGE, much bigger than we were expecting. The only negative was that the beach is right next to the road, so sometimes it was a bit noisy, but never enough to be truly problematic. Overall, we had a great experience and were glad we chose the Amsterdam Manor Beach over the chain hotels.

My sister and I just returned from the AMBR and found it to be exactly to our liking. It is a small family oriented boutique hotel situated across the street from Eagle Beach. There is transportation both north to California Lighthouse area and south to Orangestad shopping. Casinos are walking distance or a short bus hop. We especially appreciated the efficiency kitchen, microwave, frig and a great Jacuzzi. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Two restaurants are available on site and many more within walking distance. Computers with web cams are available in the lobby area for free. We would definately return to Amsterdam Manor!

Horrible!! Can I please preface this by saying that I am not one of those people who is difficult to please?! But I booked a 1 bedroom suite with Amsterdam Manor back in December. I arrived last Wednesday 3/26 to have them tell me that they were overbooked, I mean can they not count how many rooms they have in comparison to how many guests they book? The woman at the desk told me that a wedding party that was there decided that they wanted to stay longer so myself and 3 other guests lost their rooms. They told me that they booked me a room at La Cabana next door. I said okay, is it still a 1 bedroom suite with an ocean view and king size bed like I booked here. I was told no that it was in the back of the building and not a suite. This did not make me happy at all because I had booked, paid for, and gotten confirmation from XXX in the reservations department that my reservation was confirmed. After expressing my displeasure with them for about 45 minutes and requesting to speak to a manager (none were available) they said they could put me at the Manchebo. When I got to the Manchebo I was put into a ?garden view? room with 2 double beds. I then told XXX the situation and they were great! And put me into a ocean view room with a king size bed. Please read my review of the Manchebo, they were awesome.

Hotel is a decent place for the price. I thought the beach was a bit vanilla but my biggest criticism is that there was no privacy as soon as you walk out your room door. You are right on top of everyone at the restaurant or the pool. The interior room ammenities were quite good however as is the hotel value for the money. Aruba is way overated however compared to most other carribean islands we have been to. It was cloudy 70% of the time and it's limited beach coastline is marred by several unsightly oil refineries. St. Maartin or St. Croix are where I wish we had gone to instead.

We had a more pleasant beach experience at the Manchebo Beach area. Did not like having to walk across a busy road to have beach access. The road traffic takes away from a relaxing beach environment. I thought the rooms were very nice and I appreciated the kitchen (saved us some money). This next comment is not meant toward the staff (who are very friendly and helpful) but toward the Dutch guests staying there. What's with the staring and the attitude???? My wife and I felt extremely unwelcome by these people. We are on vacation just like you - why the rude behavior? Maybe I just don't understand your culture. Whatever. Staying at Manchebo next year.

My husband and I stayed at the Amsterdam Manor 3 times. The most recent time was Sept 21, 2008 for 9 nights for our honeymoon. We LOVE everything about the Amsterdam Manor. The people, the food, and most importantly the beach. Want to go back asap. Totally recommend staying there. You will never want to stay anywhere else.

We'd generally recommend it. The Passions Restaurant, right on the beautiful Eagle Beach, is a great experience. The service is very friendly. Only negatives: (1) the studio rooms are smaller than they appear on their website; and (2) most of all, the rancid nearby smell, which appears to derive from the sewage system.

The 1 bedroom suite was great. We had a well-stocked kitchen, a living room with a flat screen tv, a bathroom with a shower (no tub), a king-sized bed and a 2nd flat screen tv in the bedroom, a table for 2 in the kitchen and a dining room table for 6. The suite had ceiling fans and being on the 1st floor, indoors was always cool and comfortable. The free internet, hotel personnel, convenience to bus, large parking area, convenience to beach and well-maintained accommodations were perfect. The hotel provides shampoo/rinse, hairdryer, lotion, paper towels, dish detergent, unlimited ice and beach towels (that can be used off premises). We attended the BBQ - the food was very good. We enjoyed the dinner rolls so much that we got some to go with our dinner another night. The drinks at the beach bar were expensive (non-happy hr) - $8.25 US for an 8-oz mudslide. The bed was hard but the hotel added extra padding which made it more comfortable.

This was a family friendly, clean environment that was also still romantic. Our 2 bedroom suite was large and comfortable. We were very glad to not be at a more crowded highrise. The beach & water were fantastic. There were tons of water sports to choose from. And being in the middle of the island made it easy to get to wherever we wanted to go. We'd go back there anytime.

I just stayed for 2 weeks on Aruba at the Amsterdam Manor and it looks amazing. They have renovated the entire property and the new rooms look beautiful. I heard before about the smell issue, but as I was told that problem has been solved back in May and there have not been any complaints since. I would advice this hotel to everyone who is looking for some peace and quiet, great beach dining and fantastic service!

We loved the more intimate environment of the Amsterdam Manor verses the high energy area around the high rise hotels on Aruba. However, the Amsterdam Manor allowed easy access when we wanted more action to any place on the island. We had great access virtually right outside our door to a quiet beach where we could get food and drink during the day and wonderful on-the-beach dining with entertainment in the evening. ALL the staff, from the top down, were warm, welcoming and provided us with great service.

This hotel was fantastic. The service was great and the location was beautiful. Even the standard studio room was plenty spacious, and had ALL you could need. A FULL KITCHEN too!! The balcony was a big plus....kinda tiny, but big enough for 2 to sit and look at the ocean. This is a smallish hotel though, not a big resort so your mileage may vary. I would absolutely recommend this place to stay. Hit the happy hours at the pool bar....2 for one specials, and the Pina Colada is GREAT!!! The only complaint we have is that the A/C didn't keep the room as cool as we would have liked....we are used to a lower temp than 75...but we were still comfortable, and it WAS very hot when we were there.

My husband and I stayed at Amsterdam Manor for our honeymoon in early September. We chose Aruba because we wanted a caribbean trip, but definitely wanted to stay out of hurricanes. We thought the room was wonderful. We booked the superior studio, which comes with a big bathroom, fully-stocked kitchen (the only thing it didn't have was an oven), a king bed, ocean view, and a little patio with an outdoor table and chairs. We loved waking up each morning and seeing the water right outside our room. We had a tough time finding good restaurants. We bought the Frommer's guide to Aruba, and their recommendations didnt' seem to match our experience. We didn't like Le Dome, rated 2 stars by frommers. We thought it was too expensive and not that great. We also didn't like Salt and Pepper. The tapas were horrendous - everything tasted overly processed, like it just came out of the freezer. Yuk. Anyone going to Aruba should go to Jamaica Me Crazy and Cubas Cooking, both are in the downtown area. They had great food and great people. Try the Mojitos at Cubas Cooking - also CC has live music each night, but we only went for lunch, so I can't tell you if the live music is good. I would highly recommend having dinner on the beach at Amsterdam Manor. You don't have to be a guest to have dinner. I believe they only serve dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. We ate there both nights and had a great time. The food won't knock your socks off, but it's nice to eat on the shore with tiki torches and a bottle of vino.

Amsterdam Manor was definately one of the nicer low rise hotels. It's a little closer to the high rise hotel area, where a lot of the Americanized restaurants are (benihannas, tgif, texas de brazil), and a bus ride away from the downtown area. We went to the downtown area one night and found it kind of shady and desolate, so please leave that area for day time/early evening activites. Amsterdam Manor was right by one of the islands best beaches, Eagle Beach. If you travel up by the lighthouse, Arashi Beach is good for waves and snorkeling. The bus is right across the street from Amsterdam and is $2.40 round trip. You don't necessarily have to rent a car, but please be aware that the on site "store" isn't much of one and is way over priced. We went to our neighbor hotel's store and that was also way overpriced; so a car may be helpful for shopping trips. The room was decent, nothing fancy, nice size. The hotel is in great shape and the on-site restaurants, Mangos (breakfast is good there)and Passions (romantic sunset dinner), were pretty nice. All in all, it was a very plesant, restful vacation and I can understand why people go multiple times. :)

I traveled to Aruba last June and stayed at the Amsterdam manor, whenever I think about my stay....I'm still saying WOW...peace engulfed me, comfort surrounded me, and I'm stilling savoring the tastes of the Island....This was a trip that I still haven't found anything that doesn't leave me wondering when I'll be able to go back. The staff at the Amsterdam manor was more than accomodating, they became part of the family. The amenities left nothing to want. The location was perfect. I literally can close my eyes and still smell the ocean air as I relaxed on the large patio. Our first night we stayed close to home so we dined at the Amsterdam Manor restaurant...(oops can't remember if it had a different name...but I ate 3 meals there Brkfst, Lunch, and Dinner...ALL VERY TASTEFUL...mmmm. I'd also recommend everyone partake of the Tattoo Boat, and you absolutely must dine at El Gaucho's and the Driftwood. Beautiful place, Beautiful people. Can't wait to go back.

The location was fine. Their beach is great. It does seem like alot of non guests use this beach and even use the palapas and lounge chairs. Think there is a fee involved. I will remember that the next time we visit the island.Beach bar staff not very friendly. [...] on the beach seemed nice. The room was on the small side and would have liked a fridge that was larger. Small coffee maker.Very warm air condioning. Think it must have been preset because changing the thermostat didn't do a thing. Just blew warm to cool air. The walk up the 2 flights of stairs was a little tough. They asked if we needed help and we said no but had no idea what we were in for. The front desk staff was fine. When we did check in (at noon) they said our room was empty but needed to be cleaned and we could take towels and use the beach. That was nice.We did have a nice lunch at the beach.Would I stay again? Probably not. We have been going to Aruba for 13yrs now and had always wondered about Amsterdam Manor and now we know!I guess I would recommend but explain what we experienced.Dawn

AM is a wonderful hotel. It is located in the low rise area in Aruba. The beach is great and not crowded. We went to the high rise area a couple of times and didn't care for the atmosphere. AM is not a 5 star hotel and if that's important to you, I would not recommend staying here.
