I was disappointed from the moment I got close and saw the area in which America's Best was located. One reason I chose it was they had a pool, only to get there at 4p on Sat to be told it closes at 6p and isn't open on Sun (and I was checking out Mon). The hallway smelled of urine and there was trash everywhere...and people hanging out drinking, being loud and smoking...it seems like some people may live there. The room was not clean at all, I didn't even feel comfortable taking my shoes off. I had an AC in my room that leaked water inside on the floor so a quarter of the rug was wet. There were no washclothes which I called about and got them eventually. The tv was having problems and they had staff come in my room 4 times to try to fix the tv/remote only to be told they will come back with another tv from another room...two hours later they never came back. By then my kids were asleep and I called the front desk to tell them to forget it because I didn't want someone knocking on the door waking them up. I tried to look in a phone book for another place to stay, that's how bad it was, but it was Labor Day weekend and there was nothing. So I told them if I HAD to stay there my 2nd night they HAD to switch my room. Oh, that evening I couldn't get any sleep because the people hanging out outside were very loud...laughing, yelling down the hall to one another, cursing, etc! Day two was better even though we couldn't go swimming, but we actually didn't spend much time in the room. We went to the beach, etc so we didn't get to the room until 10pm...but there was no water on the floor in the 2nd room and we did have washcloths...I honestly can not believe the money they were charging for the unprofessional, unsatisfying service I recieved and I would NEVER stay there again!

Absolutely nothing. Everything. The rooms very unclean, have not been vacuumed in years, nor dusted, bathroom facilities are only marginally dirty, which is saying a lot.
Date of Stay:
August, 2007
The rooms were filthy, there was a burnt carpet in room 136. There was no security and a hotel full of drunks making noise. The front desk called me and asked me track down the cleaning person to "give them a message". We had to beg to get three towels for three people. The room is brightly lit when the lights are out with little to no effect from the shades.

carpet was sticky, door didn't shut, bathroom door would not shut and had blood on it. hairs in shower, towels and blankets dirty. people wandering outside of room all hours of night.

Near to where I needed to go. Noisy, people hanging around outside their rooms all night. Room was dirty. Trash cans in common areas overflowing. Roaches in the room.
Date of Stay:
November, 2006
This was the absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The tub looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in a year. Only 1 light worked. There were no batteries in the remote control and the customer service was atrocious.

Carpet felt greasey, the staff was very nice had a tv but was 20 inch n i wipe the screen ,had chair n table, bathroom n sink king size bed thats all i can say good about this

I liked nothing about my hotel experience. It was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I was worried about my safety the whole night, especially with all of the people loitering without their shirts-on around the property. The bathroom was dirty, there was only a sheet on the bed other than the really dirty comforter. I would never stay there again or recommend to anyone.
Date of Stay:
October, 2006
sheets were dirty with hairs, roaches on the wall, room in disrepair, bad neighborhood (even advised by pizza delivery woman to stay inside and lock door in that part of town), unhelpful desk clerk, no extra sheets...had to move to a new room at 2am, no lobby..just a glass window with a hole to talk to desk clerk through, no continental breakfast

This hotel was horrid.

Nothing. Price and the condition of the room. NA.

The front desk people were nice, but that was all. The room was gross. The carpet was sticky and covered in not-my-hair, all amenities (tv remote, hair dryer, iron) had been removed, the toilet paper had no roller (thus, the roll fell in the toilet), and there were roaches. I could feel the springs in the mattress. Pay a little more--go somewhere else.

This room was used for sleeping only! Was not a place where I would like to stay again!

Location, and staff was nice. It is in very poor material condition. Here's an example. Check the shower, and you'll find that a tub spout has been grafted to the shower piping, a shower head screwed in one end, and silicone fills the diverter hole. AC cover was broken and rattled like a freight train. People loitering outside at night. I was embarrassed to have my kids there.

Roaches found in room. Linen had to be requested. Housekeeping inadequate

The Americas Best Value Inn is unsatisfactory, the room cleanliness was poor. There was hair everywhere from previous guest, the sheets on the bed had red stains which looked like blood (good thing there were two beds). On the second day after the maid cleaned the room, the bed wasn't completely made and all the trash was not removed. The fixtures in the bath room were very old and barely functionally. The room had a coffee maker without a pot and the blowdryer was missing. This was a horrible experience and I would not recommend anyone stay at this hotel

Nothing, I have never seen so many roaches. The roaches on the bed.

For a cheap hotel definitely good choice, room was satisfactory except no fridge and bit of the ceiling was loose showing old. sink is not in the bathroom part of bedroom, two double beds and tv.Housekeeping was non-existent even after personally giving the cleaner a tip got clean towels but no trash was picked up, bed was not made, empty cups were not removed. bit difficult to find but good part of portsmouth so no worries there about 20 minutes from virginia beach.

It had free HBO. No restaurant, the rooms looked like they were falling apart, not a good neighborhood. The rooms looked like they were falling apart, ceiling tiles missing, broken, or moldy. The furniture and air conditioner were really dirty looking. The neighborhood was really not all that good down street from county jail. The pool was not very clean.
Date of Stay:
June, 2007
The room was quite large and very comfortable.Although it was billed as being close to our sailing point, there was no free shuttle and the taxi fare was in excess of $40. Enjoyed the coffee pot in the room but the continental breakfast left a great deal to be desired.
