booked late and very surprised! We wanted a room for only one night(Saturday, first one in the school holidays) and we only booked on thursday so we wernt expecting the best room- being the last one at short notice but we were very surprised to find it had a lovely sea view, not the biggest room but enough for us for one night and nice and clean. The location is excellent,a little way out of town-five minute drive and around 20-25 minutes walk but a very nice part of Scarborough along the esplanade, living in York we go to Scarborough quite a lot but weve never been round this part of it and will probably stay here again, hotel and area.Would recommend it to anyone.....

The Ambassador Hotel, Scarborough - avoid room 1 unless you have earplugsA pleasant, clean hotel with friendly staff gave me and my husband a very good starting impression, we also had a very pleasant meal at this hotel. The main problem was that we were situated on the ground floor, and something outside our room (possibly a compressor?) was making a low level humming sound all night long. My husband got very little sleep and the Manager on the desk in the morning wasn't at all bothered by our comments (or at least he did not give that impression.) If you stay in this room, at this hotel and are deaf or bring earplugs, the rest of your experience should be good - but if you are a light sleeper I would not stay here.

L MacGregor's reviewAbsolutely lovely hotel with character but no jadedness about it. Views from dining room and bar are tremendous. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The pool was lovely and enjoyed an early morning swim to ourselves. The breakfast was tasty, asked for plenty toast and did receive this. Also thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment on the Saturday evening. Will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone.

Great SeaviewNice traditional hotel in a lovely setting right on the esplanade and in the quieter part of town. The small indoor pool was a bonus for the kids. Just a short walk to the putting green with one of the best seaviews I've seen. Quite pricey for the standard of room (lower ground floor, so people walking into the hotel could look straight down at us), but everything else was exactly as we expected for the 3*accommodation. Friendly and accommodating staff.

During our stay the hotel lived up to its 3* designation

Mediocre hotel at bestFrom the scruffy reception at the back of the hotel, to the tired room, this hotel is mediocre at best. They were good enough to upgrade our room free of charge from the original where you could clearly feel the springs on the bed, however the room we were then given still left a lot to be desired. Old and chipped furniture - the melamine coffee table had all the original trim missing. The carpet was stained near to the window, and the bathroom fittings have seen much better days. We know there are a lot of elderly visitors, but is a rubber bathmat really necessary? and howe hygienic could it be? The pool is far too small unless you are able to swim alone, and the spa bath is really just one end of the pool with bubbles. The public rooms are a great improvement, and the downstairs ladies is a delight. Breakfast service was excellent, and the food on the hot buffet looked fresh and was appetising. The location is good for the gardens but quite a hike into town.

Ambassador hotel The Ambassador Hotel has a great location on the south cliffs of Scarborough commanding stunning views of the sea front and surrounding area below. The hotel has the added bonus of a swimming pool and sauna a nice touch on a windy and wet British spring day.The room we stayed in was budget and basic with a basement view and little luxury’s, but still £108 for 2 nights I’d feel guilty complaining maybe during high season and paying a lot more I’m sure I’d be spending some time in reception asking for a room change. One thing that I noticed whilst walking past open rooms is that all the rooms even those with the views, could benefit from a redecoration and modern touch, such as paint instead of wall paper and duvets instead of sheets and old bed covers, you’ll notice a big difference between the restaurant toilets and your own.Whilst in the restaurant for breakfast on our first morning we were served with sour milk for tea, warm milk with the cereals and warm orange juice.Overall I liked the Hotel and would recommend it.

The location of this hotel is fantastic with excellent sea views being located at the top of the cliff in the quiet South side of Scarborough. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and eating their fantastic breakfast in there was a real pleasure. The bedroom was very spacious but the 'double bed was 2 x singles put together. The 'beds' were also too hard and not too comfortable. Also I think updating the bed linen to duvets rather than sheets and blankets would be better but I understand that this is a personal taste. The tea and coffee set up was slightly odd where you had to plug the kettle with very short lead into the cupboard the television stood on!The staff are really friendly polite and helpful especially the younger staff working in the dining room at brealkfast. Overall the hotel was good and I would stay there again.

Customer Service - this was acceptable on Saturday evening when we checked in, however, on Sunday morning we realised there was no hairdryer in the room (it was stated that hairdryer was available in the room), we contacted reception at 8.15am, the hairdryer had not arrived by 9am, we decided to go for breakfast, we returned to our room after breakfast, there was still no sign of the hairdryer, we contacted reception again - it finally arrived at 9.45am.There are notices all around the hotel regarding the refurbishment - we saw no signs of this, but the areas that we saw were clean and presentable. The bedroom on the whole was cleanThe room was very small, the bathroom was tiny and down 2 very steeps steps, if we had been staying for more than one night this would have been very uncomfortable.Quality of Food - it was the worst breakfast we have ever had! We spend a lot of time travelling and staying in hotels/bed & breakfasts/pubs etc., and never in our life have we had a breakfast that was so insipid. It had obviously been left keeping warm since the sitting began, everything was sitting in its own congealed fat, the baked beans were dry, mushrooms not cooked, fried eggs looked like rubber, is the orange juice fresh or diluted juice (could not tell as it had no taste)Vaue for money - I dont think so - £99.00 for the night - for that price in Scarborough in early November - at least you would have expected a proper Yorkshire breakfast

I did not use the sauna or pool due to time constraints but it all looked very clean and tidy. My room was quite cramped even for one and view was over a back street. However that said I didn't spend much time in there and it was clean an comfortable with a decent shower. I only used the restaurant for breakfast and found the staff very helpful. Being vegetarian there wasn't an alternative choice to sausage and bacon i.e. meat free products. That said I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in a clean and comfortable environment.

I was dissapointed with the size of the room and that it was a single bed not a double as expected. At the Hotel front it only shows the larger rooms

Didn't have dinner at the hotel but the breakfast was a perfectly good hot buffet. Parking is limited, but I managed to find a space on the road in front and they gave me a free parking voucher so I wouldn't get a ticket. Pretty good access to the town centre and good position overlooking the sea. However, on the down side my single room was small and the washing/shower facilities very cramped. Entry to the shower cubicle was restricted as it was so close to the lavatory. On balance, though, good value, and if I'd taken my swimming trunks I could have used the pool in the basement!

Check in was smooth, the receptionist was extremely polite and explained things really well, first impressions were good.Although we had to ask for the bedspread to be changed, the hotel is generally clean. Despite being on the main staircase, the room was extremely quiet at night, although the sound of breaking glass bottles being thrown into the bin outside in the evening was startling and I'm sure unnecessary.Breakfast time was chaotic. There aren't enough tables or staff in the reastaurant for the busy periods. Guests were asked to wait in the bar area for a table to come free. When seated, we had to ask for tea and toast several times before it arrived. Several of the waiters/waitresses were obviously doing their utmost to serve guests while others wandered round aimlessly. The food from the breakfast buffet was extremely good. The restaurant was fully booked in the evening hence we were unable to get an evening meal even though we asked before the suggested 6.00pm deadline. The pool and sauna were good, despite being small. The whole area is clean and well kept. The pool was large enough to swim in and the sauna large enough to accomodate 4 or 5 people at a push.

You have a nice view to the castle and the south bay of Scarborough. We got a room with no air-condition. As we had fortunately quite nice weather we had to open the window. But this room at the first floor faced to the back-yard of the hotel, where the kitchen-staff spent their breaks. So it was quite a dilemma, as the sleep of our 10 months old babyboy was quite often disturbed (either hot or loud). The other annoyance was the dripping down from the ceiling into the bedroom, each time someone used the bathroom upstairs. We were told this would be a new problem, but even a layperson could see the large brown spot on the wall between bathroom and bedroom. We reported this problem several times to the staff, but were not offered an other room nor given a discount. A person in a wheel-chair needs the assistance of two persons to manage the barrier- free access to the hotel in a safe way!
