Amatierra Retreat & Wellness Center Turrubares

Amatierra offers 5 private bungalows with 2 separate suites each with an open air yoga studio with incredible views in the secondary rainforest of the central mountains. One hour from the airport in San Jose and 1 hour from the beach. Also is half way between Manuel Antonio and Arenal Volcano and is a perfect stopping place to rejuvenate, do daily yoga classes, get a massage, encounter the bio-mat, and an herbal treatment from a clinical herbalist on staff (one of the owners). We serve mostly organic produce and do not eat red meat. The climate is considered the best in Costa Rica 62-84 12 months of the year.

Dinner and breakfast are served on the balcony over looking incredible view of the valley. You have the option of eating together, family style or eating alone on the balcony with separate tables, what ever you prefer. We serve wine’s from Chile, South Africa, and Argentina and now have Organic Wine’s from Chile. We have appetizers and deserts with dinner. Our breakfast has been toted as one of the best in all of Costa Rica with many food choices.

Turubari Park:
Turubari Park is an eco-adventure experience with rain forest tours, an aerial tram, butterfly garden where you can see the stunning blue morpho, horseback riding and three different options for "zipline", an exhilarating experience of flying over the canopy of trees, safely. Turubari is known to have the best canopy tours in all of Costa Rica, and is just 15 minutes' drive from AmaTierra.

Esterillas Oeste:
You won't find a more beautiful beach in Costa Rica than Esterillas Oeste - just over an hour from AmaTierra. This is truly a beach lover's paradise. Palm trees overhang the white, sandy beaches and exotic Scarlet Macaws make their homes in the trees. Esterillos Oeste is located on the Central Pacific Coast, close enough to AmaTierra to include it as a day trip during your stay. This quiet coastal village is known by locals as one of the best beach destinations in the country. Adventure lovers will enjoy excellent surf breaks, sun lovers can soak up the rays and the whole family will enjoy the cool ocean breezes. Serenity, the colorful local culture, and a beautiful view make Playa Esterillos Oeste the perfect beach day trip to get your feet wet on the pacific shores of Costa Rica.

Surfing in Costa Rica:
One of Costa Rica's best known surfing beaches, Jacó, is just an hour and a half away from AmaTierra. This bustling surf town has one of the best breaks in the country. And you don't have to be an experienced surfer to get into the action. Surfing lessons can be arranged for any experience level. Jacó is big enough that you can get a bite to eat at a local restaurant and do a little shopping, but still small enough to enjoy the peaceful waves and watch the vibrant sunset over the ocean.

Tortuga Island Snorkel & Relax:
If you love to be on the water, spend a day on a snorkeling tour to Tortuga Island. AmaTierra provides the transportation to Puntarenas, where Calypso Cruises takes you on a comfortable cruise boat to Punta Coral Private Reserve and Tortuga Island. Tortuga Island is a tropical white-sand paradise, where you can explore the crystal blue reefs and get a closer look at the sea-life with fins and mask. Other activities on the island include beach volleyball and hiking trails within a private rainforest, offering you a chance to spy on birds, monkeys, insects, and other native Costa-Rican creatures.

Horseback Riding:
Two hour rides with fabulous mountain and ocean views; ride through a traditional "finca", see staple agricultural crops, Brahma cows and the green of the rainforest or ride to thermal hot springs or a lovely waterfall close to AmaTierra.

Carara National Park Jungle Tour:

San Jose Historic City Tour:
Discover the history and culture of San Jose on a personal guided tour. The city’s architectural showplace is the National Theatre. Its stunning baroque design and cultural significance make it a source of pride to all Costa Ricans. Best known for the permanent exhibit of pre-Columbian artifacts, the National Museum also features examples of Costa Rican religious art. Another highlight of your San Jose tour is a visit to the Gold Museum. This museum houses a prized collection of pre-Columbian gold which showcase a high level of artistry.
