Not a regular hotelThis hotel is actually one of the "holiday fellowship" properties. Probably wouldn't have booked it had I known in advance but having said that - for the money - it was a room for the night where we wanted to break our journey.

An unusual placeUpon arrival we were immediatley told that this was NOT a hotel but something different. We were fine about this. The HF organisation have these accommodations for organised groups focusing on all sorts of holiday activities from walking to playing bridge. The room was pleasant and clean (not latest mode but that didn't bother us) - no t.v. and this didn't bother us either. What I did not like was being told that we HAD to sit with others (on big round tables) for breakfast and that we should go to breakfast a bit later because the organised groups would mainly be gone by then. We did this, the first morning (we stayed two nights) we felt a little as if we were a bit of a nuisance -the staff were busy clearing up from their groups' finished breakfasts. So, the 2nd morning we decided to go down earlier for a better breakfast and were told where to sit with others. This was a little uncomfortable and I had not planned or asked for this. If you don't mind mixing with others at breakfast there ought to be no problem staying here.

Beautiful LocationThis was a great location. The grounds are just beautiful we even sat out on the back patio to enjoy the view. Nice clean rooms, very modern bath. Great breakfast. Nice to have the pool and hot-tub especially after a day of hiking. What a great find.

It's certainly a place you won't forgetFirstly the good bits. Hotel has a great location at edge of village with (rather sparse) gardens to back overlooking loch and overlooked by wonderful hills. The building is typical large Victorian country hotel; inside function areas large and confortable. Not so good; the hotel seems to have had an extension of modern rooms built on bit we were in old part where rooms were rather compact the new are seems reserved for walking groups used by the chain which owns hotel (which is fair enough); this hotel was formally run for Christian walking groups and a lot of the aspects you'd associate still permeate the hotel. Site states no TVs in room - in fact we didn't see any in whole hotel; entertainment consisted of bridge nights for the walking groups, board games or reading. Don't expect to come down for breakfast and choose a table on your own (first morning we came back with cereals to find our stuff had been moved to "join" another table already occupied but with spare seats; second day we were intercepted en route to a table and told we couldn't site there and again joined with a group). You'd need to be comfortable with yourself and others to stay here and be aware of the style or else you might find it offputting. Definitely be clear if your a family with children as to what your expecting.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is located at a beautiful spot facing the Loch Leven. The hotel is located in an old bishop's house which gives it much character and makes it a spheric place to stay.

don't tell anyone about this hotelLateRooms fill up any unused rooms - otherwise hotel is booked by a holiday company for organised trips mainly walkers - which means that during the day, if you don't go out, you'll virtually have the hotel to yourself. The bedrooms are superb, forget the fact there is no tv in the rooms, you don't need it! The view of the loch from the end of the garden is wonderful. There are communal tables for breakfast, which can lead to awkward polite conversation, or very interesting conversation depending on who you sit with! All I can hope is that not too many people find out about this place, as I want there to be enough rooms left over so that I can book to go there again! - so don't recommend it to anyone you know - otherwise word will get out re this gem and it'll be too hard to book! By the way I recommend a walk to the nearby hotel bar/restaurant Loch Leven where the food on the pub menu is excellent and at decent prices too.

over pricedNice place but no atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet place, this is it. The outside rear of the hotel is very scenic and good for a short walk around the small harbour area. My room was very small and had no TV, but clean and tidy with all the usual coffee etc.Breakfast was ample with a good selection of juices, but staff tend to place you at the one table with other guests, quite cramped. Overall, a bit too expensive for what you get, would be better served in a B&B elsewhere.

A good choice of Hotel for us.Everything was so good that we will certainly consider this Hotel when in the area again. The grounds are also really lovely so it's a nice place to just relax in. Although I'm normally a 'real ale' drinker, the draught guinness served here was among the best I've ever tasted.

It was unfortunate that I was unable to have dinner at Alltshellach (for reasons that were never quite made clear) as the food smelled wonderful. Also there was no TV in the room which made me glad I'd brought a book to read, but apart from these minor irritations the hotel was clean, tidy & well run (friendly staff too)

Fantastic value for moneyWell placed and easy enough to find. Perfectly suited for walking and in close proximity to Fort William (about 10 miles). We needed a place to stay before and after our climb of Ben Neivs and couldn't fault the hotel or its staff in all our needs. Jacuzzi post climb was a bonus! Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was pricey, but was good quality.
