Mixed ReviewThe reduced rate meant this accommodation was good value. I would not have felt the same if we had paid the full advertised price. The rooms are in a separte newly-built lodge which is spacious, but does lack some character. The shower was poor but the room was clean and comfortable. The jacuzzi didn't have any water in it. Do not go here for a spa break.

Beautiful old manor house with accomodation blocks separate. Beautiful setting. Peaceful and secluded. Ideal location to visit the Brecon Beacons. Nice swimming pool with sauna and plunge pool. Comfortable lounge areas, but dining area is in need of refurbishment. Food pleasant but pricey, but service was very very slow. Arrived for meal at 8 o'clock, had to demand a table by 9 and eventually served main course at 9.45pm (even though there were only 4 other couples in the restaurant!!). Generally the establishment is woefully understaffed! We felt that staff were overstretched! Use the hotel as a base for visiting the area rather than a retreat. Minor complaints we had we rectified immediately.

The hotel was in a stunning setting, surrounded by breath taking hills. Unfortunately the hotel was a disappointment. It was certainly not the four star service or accommodation we were expecting. The staff were pretty nonchalant, not unfriendly, but not particularly bothered either. The service at breakfast was a joke, it took ages to get our order right, which was simple and straight off the menu, the food took a long time to come and was not worth the wait. The room we were in was in a good location, a short walk away from the main hotel, but it was really shabby, peeling paint and worn wood work, frayed towels and carpet, moldy old tiles in the bathroom...it was really in need of redecoration. The bin in the room had not been emptied on our arrival either. It was really not 4 star...more like one or two...There was hardly any hot water on the irst morning and none on the second, which was a complete joke!It seemed like the management of the hotel have just given up and are running the place into the ground.

After looking at the hotel website, my wife and I were looking forward to a nice short break. The room we stayed in was outside of the actual hotel itself and more like a chalet, with very poor decor and extremely dated furniture. My wife's face was of bitter disappointment and mine was sheer anger. Anyway we decided to have a evening meal at the hotel and it was an absolute disgrace. I have eaten all over the world and this has to be the worst meal we have EVER had. We will not be going back there and strongly recommend others not to either!!!!!

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and think it is great (at late room prices). We did not eat at the hotel but went to the pub at the end of the road which does good food at reasonable prices. We did drink in the hotel bar but did find this expensive. The main hotel building is full of character, especially the lounge with its decorative ceiling and fireplace. Our bedroom was large and clean with good views of the countryside. This is a great place for a quiet break and we intend to go back.

The location of the hotel was really good for a quiet break and our room was in a great location with a lovely view. However thee were a few things that were not very good. On arrival we could not get any food as the dining room/restaurant only opens for breakfast and in the evening. The swimming pool was absolutely freezing and the spa pool was out of order. The sauna was also turned off.The absolutely worse thing was, my husband and I went out for the day on the Sunday, on our return we found that a window to our room was left wide open by the cleaner. Thus window opened out onto the main path that everybody used to go to their rooms. I complained about this to the staff as the manager was not available and I was quite upset as all our belongings were obviously in the room, including expensive camera equipment. On checking out the next day all the manager said was that his staff had told him about it and he was sorry. Not very happy with this sort of customer service at all.

The wine & Dine offer is excellent value for money - as a couple we spent £100 on dinner & wine and so received free accomodation. The quality of food in the resteraunt was of a very high standard as were the rooms.

Reception and Car Park are not clearly marked. Food a bit expensive but very good - you get what you pay for. Lovely hotel and grounds set in beautiful countryside.

The location of this hotel is great and is a short drive from many amazing walks and scenes. However, the rooms need upgrading - we had to change ours due to a non-flushing toilet and a dodgy mattress (room 11). We moved to room 10 which was better but the mattresses really do need improving. The shower as it was clogged with limescale and unusable. Jacuzzi not working. We ate in the restaurant for one night - food was OK but overpriced, atmosphere was non-existant. Bar also ridiculously expensive - we spent £20 on a whiskey and vodka!! We got a fantastic 3 course meal at the pub down the road for the same price!! It was however cheap and if you're looking to spend a minimum amount of time at the hotel and experience what the local area can offer then it will serve your purpose.

Good location with character buildings but many small things wrong with hotel, for example, the bathroom door did not shut, the mirror fixing was loose, there was a room heater, but it did not work. The room main door lock stuck and needed fiddling to work. The evenining meal was acceptable but the breakfast was inedible--cold bacon, black pudding that was so hard that a electric drill would have struggled to penetrate it. A shame really,it could be good with a little attention to detail.

This was our 2nd stay at Allt Yr Ynys. Both times we've booked via Laterooms & found it to be good value on this basis, however we would not feel the same if we paid the published rate. Our room this time was in the main hotel. I love the age of the place as it adds to the charm, however our room (3) had a rather 'Hobbit-like' door....i.e. the lock & handle were about 2 foot up from the floor making it tricky to open & close! Our only other complaints are that prices didn't include breakfast & the communal areas are without piped music & therefore lack any atmosphere. The hotel however is a lovely base to discover the charm of the area - great scenery & walks.

Lovely peaceful setting. Rooms are mostly in separate buildings to main hotel, but this is not a negative as they are very attractive and in keeping with the overall style. Actual room was very pleasant, large and bright. Furnishings a mixture of some nice 'antiques' and curiously some shabby cheaper items. Bathroom a bit tired, but large and otherwise fine. Didn't eat in hotel as excellent, good value pub down the road. Overall would most definitely recommend, but not at the full rate.

Read previous reviews re poor quality of some rooms but we were offered the use of 2 rooms in hotel itself and 2 in bungalow type annexes and all were very clean, attractive and comfortable. The hotel is great value at the discount rate offered, despite pricey breakfast. The site is pleasant and close to beautiful countryside.

The Spa didnt work, was lovely to use it after the cold pool and the sauna was okay. The room was fab and very private, lovely Pub down the road which does amazing food, though its worth every penny eating at Allt Yr Ynys, the food is outstanding and the staff were very pleasant. Could use a few improvements with regards to sauna and whirlpool, otherwise it's a perfect place to stay and totally peaceful.

Not such a great placeThis hotel looked fantastic on paper, but was very tired and a bit odd in reality. The food was very disappointing, and not cheap.

Hotel is in peaceful location. Room we stayed in was a fair size and in good repair. The bathrooms are very outdated however, with broken tiles and a leaking shower. Beware of the HOT water. The reception appeared to never be manned. On departure at 0830 could find no staff, when we did get someone they could not deal with checking out and told us to come back after 0900. Thought I was a custmoer not a prisoner. So just dropped keys behind counter and left. Very unproffesional.

The setting and the building are beautiful, swimming pool great. We felt that, although very pleasant and doing their best to be helpful, the staff appeared stressed and overworked. It felt as if they were not well managed and left to cope on their own.

We stayed for one night over a weekend. The hotel was very good value for money with the discount but I wouldn't pay full whack for it. It does show the vaguiaries of the Welsh Hotel grading system - the Food was definately 4-star but the overall experience of the hotel would not be above 3-star. Highlights were the sauna, the pool, the comfortable and spacious bedroom with wonderful views, the helpfulness of the staff, the restaurant and the main building, all of which were lovely. Lows were the poor quality of the bathroom (dried mushrooms in the carpet, the shower not working and mould in the grout) and the shabby nature of the pool/ hot tub ceiling, which needs a good clean and is unpleasant to look at when you're relaxing in it. We also found the Eastern European staff to be inexperienced (but then it is the start of the season so they will undoubtedly learn). We tried to find the extensive grounds but they appeared not to exist and the staff didn't know what we were on about. Overall, the hotel is great value for money if you don't pay full price, and the food is delicious. However the back areas need a good clean for this hotel to be great once again - don't go there if you're looking for a spotless boutique hotel.
