Viale Delle Mura Aurelie 19 is the first address on the street; but there are 3 buildings...A, B, and C. The only way I figured out where I was supposed to be was to look for Valter Fiorucci on the mailboxes. His apartment is #6 in building "B". (Too bad he didn't tell me.) Ringing the bell for "B" #6 produced no results. If someone exiting hadn't let me in, I'd still be ringing. Up one flight of stairs is #6. Ringing that bell resulted in the lady a floor above coming to let me in. Speaks no English or Spanish. By charades I got the picture. (I was on my own.) One bath shared by people in the 3 or 4 bedrooms. No soap. Kitchenette. My bedroom had 3 single beds, good storage and a window that opened onto the trattorias a floor below. I never saw the neighbor again. I never saw Valter. I just left my payment in cash when I left. The good part...it's an easy walk to St. Peter's and the Vatican Museum. Paying E70/night, I'd say it was worth E55, compared to hotel style accomodation. Not noisy, except when other people sharing the apartment rattle their keys in the front door and their room locks late at night. And then use the bathroom. Overall it was a "C" for a person travelling alone and not expecting much. Bus #64 very convenient to/from property. 20 - 25 minute walk to the Pantheon.

This is a small Italian style B&B with 3 rooms and 3 individual showers. You can actually see the Pope's window address from the two street side bedroom windows. It can be loud at night, but with the windows closed, it's much better. There is no AC or ceiling fans, if you have to have that, this may not be for you. The location could NOT be any closer to the Vatican and the attractions. VERY conveniently located, close to the shops and restaurants. Lady Clara who lives in the building manages the B&B and makes a traditional Italian Tourist breakfast of a great cup of coffee, Italian toast/Jelly and cookies. We enjoyed meeting the owner Valter who checked on our stay and was very pleasant to work with. The pick-up from the airport was a great deal at a great price, recommend you arrange that with Valter prior to arrival. The kitchen is very limited for cooking, would suggest walking up the road to the GS Supermarket for water and fresh fruits. We enjoyed our stay and would go back! Thank you Lady Clara and Valter.

All'Ombra del Cupolone has an excellent central location if the Vatican is your main focus in Rome, (otherwise, it's a long walk to the Forum and Colosseum-over an hour) a stone's throw away from St. Peter's basilica, and at 85 euros per night for a double represents a decent but not great value. The room was clean but quite small and the mattress was not very comfortable (way too short for a 6 foot person and bumpy/hard). The room was quiet though and the owner was friendly but not present except at check-in. The housekeeper was friendly but did not speak a word of English, so communication was very limited. Breakfast was of the usual lame Italian variety with a cup of coffee/tea/OJ and a piece of toast/croissant and jelly.

This B&B is in a small appartment of three rooms. The hosts were very welcoming and the location is excellent - right next to St.Peter's! But remember to ask for directions from the B&B before leaving, you'll need them. The location is quiet for Rome, which was a bonus, close to the River and to Trastevere area for a true Roman experience.
