our "double room" was smaller than any single that I ever stayed; neighbour's window was 1.5 m in front and the window opened into fully enclosed "courtyard" (even with a plastic roof - a box, in fact) of some 6-8 sq m.. Could not sleep at all. Changed a room next day, not much better, however. Seems that any info available on the site refers to the rooms facing the port.

Beware: lift begins on 1st floor. You must haul your own bags up a flight of stairs before coming to the reception area, then up another half flight of stairs to the lift. Our room had a nice remodeled bath, but there was no shower curtain. You cannot stand up to shower--water will splash everywhere. The bed was a little soft to our liking, but we had a great view of the port.

Very good location (port, restaurants), was offered a port-view room for the same price as the normal one (low season). Breakfast was quite ok, better than usual in France. Definitely a good value for money, I didn't believe that was a 2 star hotel. Entrance could be a bit tricky to find - the hotel is located on top of the Hippopotamus restaurant

Great location on the Vieux Port and views over it. Main problem is TWO flights of steep stairs before you reach the lift. If you want a double bed, say so in your reservation, otherwise you may not get one.

If you're looking for a budget hotel that will give you excellent value (and great location) for money : you want to stay @ Hotel Alizé. Ideally located right outside Metro station at Vieux Port, you're at the BEST spot if you want to visit Marseille, go to the beaches (take bus 83 10' hop the bus and you are at Plage des prophètes) or explore the Frioul or Chateau d'if from the pier right accross the Hotel. Besides the hotel has been totally renovated in 2006, offering in particular very quiet rooms though not really spacy.

The view on the vieux port, throught the narrow window, was pleasant and the room was clean but poorly decorated that made a sad atmosphere (especially the bathroom). The staff was not very friendly and breakfast was a bit poor. The price is rather hight compared to similar french towns, so price/quality ratio was not very good.

We got a room in the backside of the port. The room itself was small, but clean and quiet. The only thing made trouble was the air conditioner, it was broken and was noisy after being on for 20 min - therefore we didnt sleep quite well - do remember to try the air-contioner first after your check in. Everything else was good especially the location.

A great hotel, the surroundings on the Quai de Belges were excellent. The rooms located at the front had soundprrof windows as the were heavy traffic around the clock outside the hotel. The room was difficult to access, as the lift started at the 2nd floor. But! Clean and nice. My views of the hotel can also be found in my food and travel blog, Enjoy Food & Travel (http://tojoh.blogspot.com). I highly recommend the Brasserie La Coupole in the nearby Rue Haxo for lunch. Do also try the Marrocan restaurant Un Éscale de Marrakech on the left side of Vieux Port.

This hotel has an excellent location. Its close to the more touristy area and the metro station, and far enough away from the "questionable neighbourhood" near the train station. I also found my room was quiet despite the noisy neighbourhood. The room was on the small side, and not suitable for someone who would spend a lot of time in the room, but it was perfect as a base for us as we spent the whole day exploring.

This hotel is located in the perfect spot in le Vieux Port! We couldn't spend a lot of money on hotels, but this hotel was a great value for the money. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

A room on the front overlooking the Vieux Port was an absolute delight. This hotel has the best position of all the surrounding hotels. For the price the standard was very good.you get what you pay for in terms of room comfort but the position is fantastic with plenty of bars outside the front entrnce for breakfast and a night cap.

This is a no-frills hotel, more like a hostel really, but the perfect choice if you want to be right in the old port, and are not concerned about the awful noise that seems to go on all night in Marseille. The rooms are very adequate in size and spotlessly clean, and the service, though basic, is friendly and efficient. Very good value considering the central location.
