What a marvelous hotel! We stayed four nights and loved every minute ~ from the great staff (and lovely Matilda) to the history of the hotel to the lovely rooms ~ the Algonquin Hotel has it all, and right in the heart of Manhattan ~ the location couldn't be better, also. We will definitely make the Algonquin Hotel our home when we're back in NYC!

Location. A/C window unit did not cool the small room, musty smell in the bathroom permeated the room.

We stayed at the Algonquin for 6 nights and we have nothing but great things to say. Location is fantastic, the rooms are a good size for New York and we just stayed in one of there classic rooms, the beds are incredibly comfortable and clean. The bathrooms spotless, we even had a bath tub, never had that in a hotel in New York before. They also provide free web use, which is kinda of unusal now as most hotels will bill you for anything they can. The lobby is just beautiful, great old vibe, we had dinner and drinks there one night and the food and service was great, as well as having live music in the oak room. The staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much for them. When we go back to New York we will always stay at the Algonquin, don't hesitate just book it.

I can not say enough good things about the Hotel. Our flight arrived several hours before check in and they immediately gave us a room upon our arrival. The were very friendly and helpful. The location was wonderful! We were a 2 min. walk from Times Square. It was also a short walk to Rockefeller Plaza. The rooms were very nice...not too small. There was some construction but it was not a distraction. We will stay here again when we return to NYC!

Helpful and friendly staff from check in to check out. Great location made it very easy to use as a central point to travel all over the city using cabs or subways. Will definitely stay here again.

If you're looking for a hotel in a central location, this would be a good pick. Obviously an older hotel, the rooms are on the smaller side as well as the washrooms. Be warned that if you are a fan of soaking in the tub, many rooms are equipped with a shower only. The A/C window units were barely keeping up with the heat during our stay. The staff replaced the the unit on the 2nd night which was appreciated. The Staff overall were very welcoming and helpful. If your looking for a property with character, good staff and central location, I would suggest you give it a try.

Beautiful hotel, great staff lobby and barwas excellent. Best bed we ever had in a hotel. Room was small, but we were barely there. Lobby was fantastic, staff was friendly and excellent overall experience.

We spent a happy week at the Algonquin and we would return in a heartbeat. The large, welcoming lobby lounge is a wonderful respite from the bustle of NYC. Plenty of overstuffed chairs, sofas, and cozy little groupings make for a wonderful spot to stop and rest with a glass of wine and a nosh. On Sunday night, they had open mike night and the talent was quite incredible. I imagine this is a regular occurrence there as the lobby was packed. Our room, with king sized bed, was quiet, spacious and very comfortable. With the bay window and window seat, and plenty of room to move around, we felt right at home. We could have spent our entire week in the hotel happily but we had theater tickets to four productions and they were only a matter of blocks away. We were warned that the rooms could be quite small as the hotel dates back to the early 1900s and in the case of smaller bed size, that is likely the case. Still, it is a charming hotel, beautifully located, delicious food--what more could one ask?

Great place in a prime location in the heart of Times Square. We got a great deal on the suites which were excellent. Great service all around. Highly recommended.

Great history. I did not get what I wanted. Two beds with space to be comfortable. Hotel had no valet service. Hippodrome parking guage across st. hotel is great for midgets. Old and narrow hallways as well as cramped rooms. Toilet gurgle and bubbled when upstairs toilets were flushed. Common Are in Lobby was packed tight with furniture and uncomfortable for relaxing and having a cocktail. Made me want to leave and see the city.

The Algonquin is perfect - less than 2 blocks from Times Square or 5th Avenue, 2-3 blocks from the Subway or Grand Central Station, 6 blocks from Rockefeller Center, St. Patricks Cathedral, and Radio City. 4 blocks from Sardi's, John's Pizzeria, Carmine's, and The Majestic Theatre (Phantom). We took a cab to 52nd to have dinner at the 21 Club ($6 bucks plus tip) and used the subway for everything else. The hotel is quaint and shows traditional charm but is clean and very up to date. Hotel is full of brass, marble and dark wood for a rich upscale experience. The room was about the size of a medium/large bedroom with a high ceiling, modern furniture, bay window and extremely comfortable bed. The entire hotel is on the smaller scale (small hallways, staircases, elevators) but is full of early 1900 traditional accents and architecture that you don't care about the size because it's a period hotel. The service is absolutely excellent. There is a popular diner called the Red Flame just 2 doors down which is great for breakfast ($8.95 for a full breakfast including coffee) and you can't miss it. They sell bottled water for $1.50, or street vendors sell it for $1. The room has no fridge or coffee pot (not really big enough to fit anything else without making it crowded) but we were perfectly fine with it. If you're looking for a great NY experience without a huge price this is perfect - 4 star hotel without the pricetag. Bathtubs are European style - very deep and narrow sides so ask about this if you're handicapped. My mom is 70 and did fine though with the handrail. Free internet and 1 small bottled water each day.

Staff went out their way to make sure all of your needs were met. And all were very friendly. Location was fantastic being central and close to a lot of attractions. Rooms were very nice, updated, clean with comfy beds.

We were quite pleased with our weekend stay at The Algonquin. The hotel has a great (and well-deserved) sense of history and it's pretty much right in the middle of everything. The staff was attentive and courteous. Problems were few and relatively minor. It took us about half an hour to get extra towels delivered to our room (after we had tried to just get them from the front desk directly and were told they had to be delivered by a staff member). The security bolt on the room door was in need of some maintenance and the bathtub drain was a little finicky, but other than that our room was in great condition. The room itself was a bit crowded (mostly due to the size of the bed), but it had been recently updated and it was more than adequate for the needs of most travelers. I would have no hesitation in booking a room there again the next time I return to New York.

Loved this hotel! Great location, service, and value. Very clean with wonderful bed. Matilda, the cat, adds even more charm to the small but charming lobby area. Would definitely recommend wholeheartedly!!!!!!

Super nice staff. We had a suite that was very large. The bed was the most comfortable bed we had ever slept in. The location was within walking distance of everthing we wanted to see or do.

Friendly staff. Room wasvery small and lack of counter space in bath room. My overall experience was pleasant. I liked the idea of getting an apple on arrival - nice touch. I was able to get the room with twin beds although I was originally assigned to one with only a queen.

We loved our three night stay at the Algonquin Hotel. Recently renovated, with so much warmth and character, it was so welcoming. Perfectly located in Midtown Manhattan, about one block from Times Square. Everything is within walking distance. The staff was superb! They were warm and friendly and always took the time to chat. They could not do enough for us. Matilda the cat was so sweet. That was a cute touch, since we have a cat of our own. Our room was cozy, as well. The bed and duvet was extremely comfortable. We slept like babies. They had a big screen TV on the wall in front of our bed. (My husband went to NYC kicking and screaming, but I knew the big screen TV would capture his heart. LOL! And it did!) The bathroom had a nice long ledge from the sink to the wall, so we could spread out our toiletries for easy access. I also loved the big walk-in closet. We both had a fabulous time, and agreed we would definately stay at the Algonquin again. Can't wait to return! Thank you for a great stay!
