The Albert St Inn was built in 1881 originally as the Windsor Hotel, the first hotel in Stratford. New owners bought in January of 2006, and are working to restore the hotel back to the dame that she use to be.

Front desk was very responsive. Parking is extra and needs to be reserved in advance since not enough spaces for entire hotel. I got a parking ticket in 5 minutes while checking in parked in front of the hotel. No elevator, so not great if you have heavy bags. No bellman to help. Older hotel so might be better for a younger crowd. One block to the theaters and lots of restaurants.

Although conveniently located in the heart of downtown Stratford, Ontario, this hotel should not be open for business. Our room was such a disaster, we would have left immediately if not for having tickets for 2 plays in town. I was actually compelled to take photos because the condition of the room was so unbelievable!! People (especially those with mold/mildew alergies) should not be exposed to the bathroom. I couldn't sleep at all because of allergies. There was mildew up the shower stall corners and along the tub. The "tile" which was actually a plastic piece was buldging out and peeling (who knows what was behind there!?). The window views were scary if not grotesque (I don't even know what to call the old 'equipment/pipes/materials' that were outside the bathroom window. The other overlooked building backs and parking lots. The smell in the room was like melted plastic. We tried to open the windows -- NEITHER were openable! (Is that a word?) No one staffs the hotel at night so we couldn't inquire about the odor nor could we get an extra bath towel (the bath towels are the size of a large hand towel!) To add insult to injury, we checked in in the afternoon before the first play. When we returned to the hotel in the evening after the second play, an extra set of our room keys were taped to the outside of the door (in an envelope with our name on it). So, essentially, our room with all of our belongings was available to anyone so inclined to take the envelope. For this, we paid 137 CND = 215 USD!! We have visited Stratford for over 20 years and stayed at many B&Bs and hotels. We will NEVER visit this one again.

This hotel boasts a recent upgrade which simply meant that the walls were painted and new carpets were installed. The bathrroom in particular was not very clean and the fixtures were both old and one was rusty. The hotel closes at 9.00 pm and guests are given a key. For us this raised saftey concerns because no one was on duty in case of an emergency.The hotel restaurant is quite expensive and there are much better ones near at hand. A particular annoyance is that the parking meters outside the hotel have to be fed at 8.00am. The hotel has no parking. We will not be staying there again although I should say that the staff were friendly.

hall entry carpeting was dirty. Sink and floor in bathroom didn't look like it had been washed in weeks. Room airconditioner was so loud it was like being in an airplane. A water main broke and water was turned off 3x in 24 hours with no accomodation in room rate. Bed was comfortable and water in shower was strong and plentiful. This is another urban SRO hotel that has re-invented itself as a boutique hotel. The location was very central and the rate was very inexpensive which off sets a number of the inconveniences.
