Went with my boyfriend , and booked the mansion room . It was so specious it was great to stay somewhere that wasnt a shoebox, the decor was fine,Location was great, we walked everywhere as it's close to chapel street and into town. Service was very helpful. For the price it was great . Will stay here again.

The reception area and breakfast room were bright and inviting, and one felt glad to arrive there. Behind the facade the staircarpet was badly worn, and the lift appeared to be on its last legs. The decor in the room could have been fresher, but it was comfortable and everything worked. The staircase was closed between the first and second floors - surely contravening the fire regulations? Nevertheless, we shall probably stay at this hotel again as it's quiet, reasonably priced, and handy for the trams into the city centre. Brilliant breakfast, by the way!

We chose this hotel because we knew we would need to do laundry, and that was listed among the amenities. They used to have laundry, but no more. We had to drag our laundry ten blocks away and back to get it done. The hotel clearly has a lot of history, with a rock and roll vibe and lots of old photos of bands and musicians, including large photos of the Stones playing in Melbourne in the early 70's. However, everything seems rickety and out of repair, and we were scared to take the elevator. The bath was small and dumpy, and there wasn't much to the room. The staff was friendly, and internet is at least free, which was rare. Still, I can't recommend it. It wasn't too far off of the main tram lines, but the local transportation system itself can be a bit intimidating.

Although the standard room was described as not yet renovated, great care had been taken to reflect a fresh and modern feel with up to date linen, paint, mirrors and a pleasant ferned courtyard view. The cafe provided exceptional food, great service and funky decor. Value for money, I highly recommend this hotel. Well done!

I adore this Hotel! It has a unique quality and concept and the ambiance is just great! I would go here just to have a glas of wine in the evening or to just enjoy their delicious breakfast in the morning if I lived in the area. Friendly staff, creative interiour, great ambiance and really comfortable beds made my stay a true pleasure. If you want to get away from the same old boring hotel concepts - and still feel at ease, this would be the hotel for you! I would recommend anyone who goes to melbourne to stay here and will certainly book myself in for my next visit! And it doesnt hurt that they always play great music in the lounge :)

got a room for 89 which was incredibly affordable. wouldnt pay anymore than 120 for a standard room considering the facilities available. a/c didnt work so the rooms were really warm. quiet and affordable and great location.

The Albany is not meant to be a flash place, and has turned its 1960ness into a positive statement with lights, fittings and wallpaper. Facilities were a little run down, but we were warned in the booking - the bath had bog where there was obviously rust, cracked tiles in the bathroom, bathroom powerpoint that didn't work and bathroom bench with a pronounced lean, but otherwise, it was good. It you are driving, avoid bringing a big car - the car park is very tight, and you'll be sure to scrape something in a long wheelbase vehicle such as a Jag, Forester or a Landcrusher.

Overall the room was clean tidy and quiet. Limited facilities and the overall age of the room and bathroom would probably mean that I wouldn't choose to stay again if other more modern rooms were available

For the price, this place does exactly as it says on the tin... Whilst we were there, there was an ongoing renovation project, but it didn't interfere with our stay. Breakfast was included and was very good. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. Free computer and internet facilities available. Ample car parking at the hotel. Good area. Condition our room was very average. South Yarra is an expensive area of town but very nice. Very very suitable if looing for a 'Motel' type place of stay.

The only criticism I have would be the parking. Narrow parking spots which resulted in wasted spaces as people part out of the lines and make some spots unable to be parked in. With such limited spots already, this was slightly annoying. Great service though and great packages offered.

I found their location is very convenient to each attractive site, short walk to the Royal Botanic Garden, easy drive to St Kilda, easy drive to Monash highway to Phillp island, easy drive to highway to Great Ocean Road and no need to pay toll fee.
