Only breakfast is available in the hotel and so it is difficult to give a higher rating than 4 for food quality.

Air conditioning in room was not adequate which was the only thing against this hotel. So I would hesitate to go back because of this - hence the NO in that question option. Our room had a canal view so we expected some outside noise as had to have windows open for heat.

Newly renovated. Room was clean and nicely decorated. The only drawback was there was no Internet connection.

The hotel was close to the Piazzaie Roma so perfect for arriving from the Airport. A beautiful hotel and situation with elegant public rooms. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Double room a bit tight for space - but very clean bathroom and lashings of hot water at all times. It was especially nice to have breakfast in the garden couryard as well as in the dining room. Easy walking to the major sights in an area that was non touristy - yet also close 3 mins to the Vaparetto.

Le petit déjeuner n'était pas bon! Pas de "vrai" café au pays du café!! Peu de choix. Jus d'orange en poudre! Dommage; sinon le reste était vraiment bien.

I spent 2 nights in this hotel together with my boyfriend during the bank holiday weekend in May. I have to say that we were really happy with the hotel itself and the service. Location is fantastic, great for exploring Venice and close to the bus and train stations. Rooms, although small, are nicely decorated and quiet. Breakfast is also very good- good selection. As we were checking out before the breakfast time on the last day, they prepared a breakfast box for us which was ready to collect at reception- all you had to do was to let them know in advance. All in all, very enjoyable, I'd recommend the hotel to anyone and would definitely stay there again :)

What a delightful hotel. Having come from Rome where we had a bad experience with the B&B we booked (so bad we checked in to a hotel down the road) we were very nervous about what was awaiting us in Venice. Well, no more than a 10 minute walk from St Lucia Train station right in the centre, with great directions from the hotel, we found Al Sole with no problems. Very friendly hotel staff who were charming and polite and very helpful. The whole place was spotless and had a lovely feel to it. The double room was a touch on the small side but more than enough space for us, tastefully decorated and very clean. No bath but that didn't bother my mum or me too much. Breakfast was very nice - all continental (so fry up lovers may need to look elsewhere!). We had a garden view room but for a little more, canal view rooms were available for a little more money. There is seating in the garden where you can have your brekfast if the weather is fine. It's about 40 minutes to walk to St Marcs Square but there is so much around the hotel and only minutes from the grand canal you don't need to go all the way there to find lots of things to do and see and eat! Would recommend and stay again.

Al Sole is very well located in a lovely old Palazzo, and the garden is fine, but not all as advertised. The room was tiny, which was expected, but very dark nd dingy, looking out against a wall two feet away -- no view, no light. Bathroom was modernized and very good however, and the breakfast buffet was very good. The wine bar in the hotel was never open, and the daytime concierge was not helpful or hospitable. Thankfully, one doesn't go to Venice for the hotels, and the weather was great during our stay so we didn't have to spend too much time in the Hotel itself.

No real bad surprises. Quiet area and safe at night. Several restaurants and tratorias available close by. Close enough from public transportation 5-10 minutes walk from piazza roma. The big issue why we will not go back is the tiny bathroom. Other than that it is an OK hotel.

The location is a little far away from the central train station and is not easy to find it after asking several local people. To a person who arrives in Venice by train, it is a little inconvenient. The hotel staff is friendly though.

A very enjoyable stay, but english breakfast was advertised and only a buffet was served on all days we were there, which, although it did not matter to us nevertheless deviated from the advert. After an initial problem with our room (very small & shower broken) we were moved with no fuss.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Al Sole hotel and would definately stay there again. It is around 10 minutes walking distance from the station which is where I arrved. This was very handy as there are obviously no taxis in Venice, other than water taxis, which are not always easily available. The hotel is located in the Santa Croce part of Venice which for us was a perfect base to explore the city. I took my Mum for her 60th birthay, We did not particularly want to stay right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of the St Marks area, so this was a real happy medium. Very picturesque and a lot quiter but on the same street as a couple of lovely resteraunts. St Marks was around a 20 -30 minute walk but there are loads of lovely places to see on the way. The hotel staff were extremely helpful in making enquiries and getting tickets for a concert that we went to and generally could not do enough for us. We had a twin superior garden room which I would highly recommend as it was very quiet, no mosquitos, very large, clean, recently decorated with a nice bathroom. All areas of the hotel are recently decorated in a traditional style and spotlessly clean. The hotel only serves breakfast which is buffet style, They have a reasonable selection and some lovely fresh croissants. The bar facilty is fairly basic: Wine, beer or coke/fanta but there are a couple of bars located almost next door to the hotel. I feel this hotel represents very good value in comparison to other hotels in Venice.

To celebrate a couple of special birthdays, our family of six stayed at the Hotel Al Sole from 22nd April for 4 nights. We had three superior double rooms overlooking the canal which we highly recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, the location was excellent, nice to be away from the crowds at St Mark's Square, but close to the Grand Canal for transport and there were plenty of good places to eat. The setting is very attractive with the canal at the front and a pretty garden area at the back and the architecture is stunning. The hotel staff were helpful, especially Luca who organised transport and restaurants for the birthdays. We hope to return.

Planned a 30 year anniversary trip with my spouse and his brother and wife. Fell in love with Venice, but get off the beaten path and explore the real culture. Our rooms were fairly spacious for Europe and a moderately priced hotel. Bathrooms are small but that is to be expected. Staff was courteous and helpful. Hotel is 500 years old, but was clean and had nice character.
