We booked a double room which turned out to be separate from the main house - which was welcome as this was one of those coupley-breaks from the city - so didn't have to listen to any children! Room had nice decoration and a flat screen; fairly basic otherwise but had everything we needed. Proprietors very nice and friendly, and very efficient. An impressive 3 options for breakfast; however if ordering eggs, best to stick to the fried version - I asked for scrambled and they were oddly watery?! Location a very pleasant 20 minutes down the river from the centre of town.

Thank you for a very comfortable stay - rooms spotlessly clean, breakfast more than adequate, staff very friendly

Too small and too expensiveThe room was spotless but minute. The immediate visual impression was good, with the bed draped in gold brocade with matching curtains. However, since this room has an attic roof and the window is a velux set into the slope, the curtains are looped back with a rod and as the wash-basin is adjacent to the slope, one has to crawl under the looped curtain to use the basin. Very inconvenient. The bed was comfortable but the brocade cover on the duvet meant it kept disappearing all night. Not the best night I have had in an hotel.

The room - Room 4 - was very small and was much too small to have both a double and a single bed. Made to look even smaller with elaborate and unnecessary outdated curtain arrangement over double bed.The bathroom was very small and in serious need of an update and decorating. Its poor condition made it appear not too clean. We didn't think the guest house warrented 4 AA stars and 4 Tourist Board stars.

Welcoming and helpful host. Room was really too small for a double and a single bed but was clean and well serviced.

Not a 4 star accomadationCalling this a 4 star is very misleading as I have stayed at better 3 stars. Room was small and decor needs updating. The bathroom is what really let us down - it was so small with barely any distance between WC and wash basin. And it stank!!! The smell just drove us crazy despite the bathroom being cleaned. Thin walls means you hear the doors being slammed all night - breakfast was the only good thing. For the price this is not worth it as you can find newer hotels charging similar prices.

good value for money but far from 4 Starsv small room and no parking spaces

Impression and experienceI found everything beyond reproach - in addition, personal attention of all staff was greatly appreciated, as they were all very congenial and obliging. Quality of room was superior.

Acorn ReviewVery pleased overall. Difficult to fault but my only criticism would be that the bathroom was small.

DissapointedHaving recently stayed at wonderful \"laterooms\" accomodation at much less cost I thought this was exceedingly poor value for money. The property is on a scrappy, noisy, not well kept street, albeit with in walking distance of city centre. The room was small and unnecessarily crowded. They had put a double bed and a single bed in a room barely big enough for a single bed. The most unforgivable feature was the poor quality of the mattress, a skinny, springy cheap item. In this age of good quality mattresses I have never recently slept in such a bad and uncomfortable bed, and I travel constantly. On the plus side the accomodation was well cleaned and the breakfast fine.

Not a 4 star hotelAlthough the Hotel generally was clean and tidy, the whole establishment could do with an overhaul and being updated.

Certainly not a 4 star Guest House despite the plaque from 2008. 2.5 - 3 star at a push. Friendly and clean.

Good location, no car park but parking available in cul de sac opposite. Freindly, nice food comfortable quiet. Enjoyed our stay

My opinion is weighted by expectation of 4 star accomodation, as advertised and displayed at the entrance (British Tourism Board and AA). En-suite area was tiny with little room to spare between wc and handbasin; shower door would not close properly. I have stayed in much better 2-star accomodation. Breakfast good.

The room was clean and the breakfast was good. The only downside was the paper thin walls which didn't help with noisy neighbours-small child on first night and rowdy rubgy fan on second night-otherwise all ok.
