TV volume not working on one channelReceptionist was already aware that it did not work

less than it promisesI have stayed at this hotel before and the rooms are extremely mixed. This time the room opened onto the alley at the side and was so noisy from karaoke that the window could not be left open. The alternative A/c was also noisy.The room was clean, the bed comfortable but very cramped.

Guests given warm welcomeThe Receptionist was extremely helpful and though busy dedicated ample time showing us possible alternative rooms to our party when only one not two Cathedral view bedrooms, as requested, had been allocated to us. A refreshing and very positive initial contact with the hotel.

Wow, a really beautiful hotel in a stunning setting. Perfect for all that Exeter can supply. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and all had a smile no matter what time of day or night !

Great service shame about the roomTeam could not be more helpful when asked . We were allocated a room the size of a broom cupboard . We asked to be moved which we were only to be moved to a room directly above a nighclub main exit less than 6 foot from the entrance - If you want peace and quiet or a good size room look elsewhere .

Classy yet comfortableNice hotel with a good level of service, comfortable room (albeit a little small) with a great bathroom. Free broadband. I didn't eat at the hotel (not even breakfast) because the food is expensive. Great location if you want something in the centre of Exeter. The only negative point is that you have to park your car in a local multi-storey which involves a short walk, and a charge of £7.50.

very nice hotel , great location, food excellent. Was a shame was disturbed at 7am by staff putting rubbish / bottles out. Would expect a room in a quieter area of hotel or staff to respect guests are sleeping

Super location city breakLocation opposite the cathedral was ideal and the staff were very helpful. The room was fine if a little small with a good sized ensuite shower room. Unfortunately the air conditioning was noisy which meant we could not have had it on all night which could have been a disadvantage in the summer. Parking was in a partly secure nearby multi storey car park and we paid an inclusive price directly to the hotel. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of options avaliable. The continental option included meats and cheeses as well as the norm. The full English was cooked to order and looked delicious although we had opted for the continental. We had expected to pay extra for breakfast but it was included in the price which made the stay excellent value for money. We will stay again.

hotel was very nice but when we got there they had no booking for us,which they said they would look into it also the room was comfortable so was the bed and yes it was the best bed we have sleep in its a shame the walls are thin between each room and you could here everyword and no we didny get a good sleep.we will not stay at this hotel again in future we will stay at southgate where we go most of the time.

Comfort Small room with tasteful decor and the most comfortable bed / pillows I have ever experienced in a hotel. Bathroom very clean with good walk in shower. Will definately stay again.

Excellent hotel, very welcoming from start to finish. Clean, warm and inviting. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Food was excellent from simple sandwiches to fine dining in the restaurant. I travel a lot and stay in many hotels. This is one of the best and superb value for money in todays climate.

it would be brilliant to have a mini bar in the rooms. the lift at the hotel never seems to work. it is one of those old fashioned ones where you have to close the door after you. but the cleaners kept propping it open so they could put the linen etc. in and out easily and not have to wait which meant people with bags etc had to carry their own bags up the stairs. never a porter about. i was on my own on the 3rd floor with heavy bags and not once was able to use the lift! god knows what disabled, elderly or people with prams etc manage to cope.

Great position in Exeter but a disappointing hotel that does not obviously match the premium image created by its publicity materials.For me, the decor is neither in keeping with the history of the building nor confident enough to be contemporary. It looks as if the designer had rather more interest in the budget than the product. The rooms are small and 'cosy' for more than one, the furnishings and equipment (TV/DVD) are basic. There is no minibar. The information given when signing onto the (free) Wi-Fi suggested that usage was being monitored - maybe even censored. The food (dining room and room service) was adequate but if the name Michael Cairns was not displayed everywhere, I would never have guessed it was supposed to be special.The parking is inconvenient and difficult to find. I would not stay here or eat here again - especially at the prices charged.
