The hotel is just a 5-10min walk from Kyoto Station which can save you a lot of time every morning/evening getting to and from your destinations. Hotel staff is very friendly and courteous. Rooms are a bit small, as in the case for many Japanese hotel rooms, but they are clean and cozy. All in all, a good place to stay with good value for your money. I would recommend it.

Excellent hotel boasting a beautiful rooftop swimming pool and an ideal location for travellers stopping in Kyoto via the train station. Very friendly staff and well equipped rooms offering everything you need to travel light. Only downside I could point out is the breakfast - an abundance of items for the Japanese palette, but sadly not a great variety of western-friendly dishes. If you want a western breakfast, I would suggest looking at one of the many cafes in the station area.

Very good hotel. Great, comfortable beds. It is in a very good location close to the main station. However, if you are planning on being close to the nightlife action choose to stay in Gion or near Ponto Cho.

Nice and clean hotel, good facilities (including internet - cable provided). Breakfast is charged apart from the reservation (US$12). Room is really small, but this is probably a standard here. Only problem I had was that the directions are not so clear. A local guided me there, and without her help I probably would have a hard time to find it. It would be really helpful if the site provided a detailed map. If you have lots of luggage (which was my case), it should be noted that you have to walk a little bit from the Kyoto station - probably a bit more than the "five minute walk" stated on the site. Otherwise, it's ok, no really need for a cab here.

Quite a nice hotel to stay at but it's not in the best location. It's not near the downtown area of Kyoto so you have to catch a bus or a train to get most places. There are a couple of temples/shrines in walking distance though.

I had an enjoyable stay at Apa Horikawadori; service and facilities were absolutely fine and staff were very helpful (and English-speaking). The room is small, but this is to be expected in Japan. The location 5 minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station was convenient for me, however it is not near the major tourist sites.
